From the ActingPrincipal

Dear Families

Lent is a time for reflection when we taketime to consider our lives andrelationships with others so we cantrue to our College motto lsquoBe who weare and be that wellrsquo

As Lent finishes and we enter HolyWeek we approach the most importantevent of the Church year and we striveto look past the materialism and thecommercialisation of Easter by ourmajor retailers to see in it an event thatcan hold so much meaning for each ofus in our lives Easter time can be sofamiliar to us that it is all too easy for usto forget its power

On Holy Thursday we remember themoment that Jesus washed the feet ofhis disciples kneeling before them andpowerfully reminding us that our faith isabout love and service On HolyThursday we also remember the LastSupper the last meal Jesus hadtogether with his disciples In many ofour cultural and spiritual traditions thepreparing and sharing of a meal togetherwith family and friends represents aspecial occasion of love

Good Friday is the day of Jesusrsquocrucifixion A day when we walk withJesus on the path chosen for him by hisFather but accepted by Jesus as hisFatherrsquos will The journey of Jesus isevident around the walls of our churchesas pictures or symbols representingJesus journey in the lsquoStations of theCrossrsquo The Good Friday service differsfrom any other Church service of theyear and our churches have a verydifferent feel to them on this day Yet inour undecorated and solemn churcheson Good Friday as we listen to lsquoThePassionrsquo we are able to sense thepassion of one who lays down his life forothers

Easter Sunday has a completelydifferent feel as our churches becomeplaces of great joy and celebration at thepower of the Resurrection It containsreadings of stories of amazement andfaith fulfilled and provides us with a

This Lenten message from Pope Francislast month reminds us of the importanceof looking after one another and seeingthat every person is indeed made in theimage of God In these last few weeksbefore Easter letrsquos all make a significanteffort to treat those we encounter as agift and find extra ways to be of serviceto those around us especially those inour community who most need our careand prayersHow can we each make a differencetoday and every day

On Sunday we begin Holy Week withthe celebration of Palm Sunday It is avery special time in the ChurchesLiturgical Calendar The story of Jesusrsquofinal days on Earth leading to the hopeof His Resurrection is one of the mostimportant aspects of our CatholicTradition and faith During Holy Weekthe College will be experiencing thisremarkable story performed by some ofour Year 9 and 10 students led by MrsMichelle Hahn It will begin with the LastSupper and journey through to theCrucifixion of Jesus Parents andfamilies are welcome to attend thePassion Play performances The Year 7-12 performance will be held onWednesday in the Pavilion starting at1145am The R-6 performance will beheld on Thursday in the Pavilion startingat 945am

Within the story of the Passion of Jesuswe see how ldquoPower Prestige andPossessionsrdquo can be used negativelyand over-emphasised by people somuch so that it causes a moving awayfrom following in the footsteps of JesusIn what ways do you allow PowerPrestige and Possessions to distanceyou from Jesus Holy Week is an idealtime to reflect upon this and to re-directour minds and heart if needed

During the Easter period I encourageyou to spend time with your family andloved ones and to focus on the story ofJesusrsquo death and resurrection Whatdoes it mean for you and how can it helpgive positive direction in your life
