Community Events
Introductionby An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Cormac Devlin
I am really delighted to have the opportunity to introduce this new look Festival of Inclusion Brochure and to welcome you to our 2016 Festival of Inclusion.
Festival of Inclusion has become a flagship event in the dlr events calendar as it continues to develop and encourage communities to celebrate and showcase their work and activities carried on throughout the year. the idea behind Festival of Inclusion community hosted events, is that they raise awareness and provide visitors with opportunities to engage, participate, question and experience things which are unfamiliar to them, the outcome of which is that they are enriched, informed and more likely to take a proactive, respectful approach to living in a diverse and vibrant county.
this county-wide week long Festival of Inclusion offers not only a wonderful opportunity to highlight the excellent work being done to eliminate disadvantage and marginalisation, but also offers opportunities for networking and collaboration. I note this year for example, that nutgrove Shopping Centre is hosting the very popular “Diversity Fashion Show” in collaboration with the 4 Family Resource Centres from the west side of the County with members of the respective local communities acting as models.
I am also pleased to see that this year there is still a wide range of Art Exhibitions from some of the most inspirational people in our county. they work hard throughout the year preparing their various pieces and the culmination is their exhibition in County Hall. It is also great that this year these exhibitions are going to be integrated into the wider ”Community Awards “ exhibition.
I would also like to draw your attention to the the RehabCare, “We Belong” variety show on Wednesday 12th october – a guaranteed fun night !
I wish to congratulate all of the communities, participants, hosts, volunteers and dlr partners on this wonderful collaboration and I look forward to meeting some of you and other visitors to the numerous events during the week.
