silly (sill-ee): adjective to be weak-minded or lacking good sense; stupid or foolish, absurd; ridiculous; irrational; stunned; dazed; nonsensical;

To be silly. It is the definition of Monty Python’s existence – their mantra – their mission. I was first introduced to the Python’s as most men in my generation: around the age of twelve or thirteen, word on the street was that the British allowed for some brief nudity on their television shows that was not being edited out for airing on regular TV here in America! So, what started out as late-night conquests for the rare, but occasional sighting of bare-breasted beauties on shows like Benny Hill and Faulty Towers, eventually led me into the world of Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Soon I was searching for anything and everything that the Pythons had done – and I soon found Monty Python and the Holy Grail. What inspires me to this day about this movie, now-turned Broadway musical, is how unabashedly brave and relentless it is in its silliness. The Pythons were geniuses at being silly – what an oxymoron! What a delicious contradiction! To look at the definition above and then juxtapose adjectives often used to define the Pythons, you end up with descriptors like brilliantly weak-minded, or skillfully lacking good sense, or consummately nonsensical, and luminously stupid! It is a director’s dream to work on a show that at once pays homage to the original movie, while also introducing Monty Python all over again – perhaps to a new generation - in a new medium. And so, it is my pleasure and honor to open our 2013 Season with such a funny, forget-your-troubles and look-on-the-bright-side of life piece of musical theatre.

I hope you all are in the mood for some silliness tonight! Please enjoy Spamalot, and welcome to 6th Street Playhouse’s 2013-2014 Season – we hope you take the Journey with us this season.

After attending an orientation meeting at 6th Street Playhouse she began to assist with different tasks, and working on funding raising events for the Playhouse. Then she was asked if she would like to do props for a play. Roshell did not have a clue, but it seemed to be validation for all the garage sales, thrift stores and other haunts she love to frequent in search of items she deem cast off before their time. So she began to learn to search for and create props. And once exposed to backstage through attending rehearsals and

production meetings, seeing the magic of theater, she was hooked. Working with all the wonderful people involved with the 6th Street Playhouse is incredible.
