Our podcast begins this 1: week/day/month with mixed news from Hong Kong, the former British colony that has held ceremonies to mark the 15th anniversary of its transfer from the U.K. to 2: Japan/China/USA. Tens of thousands of protesters marched to demand more democracy and an end to inequality in the 3: northern/eastern/southern Chinese financial centre. This year’s demonstration was not as large as 2003, when 500,000 people protested against anti-democracy laws that were later abandoned by the 4: Peeking/Beijing/Hong Kong Government. The 15th anniversary also saw Leung Chun-Ying become Hong Kong’s third leader since the end of British rule on June 30th 1997.

From Hong Kong ENW will make a short trip over to Japan where a traditional national delicacy has been controversially banned. 5: Raw/Cooked/Fried liver sashimi - a popular Japanese dish will no longer be sold in any restaurants from the beginning of 6: May/June/July. The Japanese Ministry of Health banned liver sashimi after five people died, and many more became seriously ill, after eating raw liver in restaurants last year. Kintan, a 7: famous/popular/large Japanese restaurant chain, has said that 90% of customers eating at their restaurants around Japan last week had come to eat liver sashimi paying around ¥1,800 per 8: plate/customer/slice.

Our final news story that was suggested by 9: some/many/none of our podcasters celebrates Spain winning the Euro 2012 final. The Spanish team became the first national team to 10: retain/regain/replay the Henri Delaunay Trophy after they thrashed Italy 4-0 in the final played in Kyiv in 11: Russia/Ukraine/Poland. The Spaniards have also become the first side to win three major trophies in-a-row, following on from Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010. On their return to 12: Barcelona/Madrid/Paris, over two-million very happy Spanish football fans celebrated whilst welcoming the successful national team home.
