Dear Members,

I am pleased to announce that our Club has been named to the PlatinumClubs of America for 2009 by the Club Leaders Forum. This means we rankedin the top 235 Clubs overall out of 6000 and in the top 100 out of 3000 CountryClubs. The Platinum Clubs of America Survey is in its 15th year and clubs areranked every three years. All clubs that have Club Presidents and Club Managersin the Club Managers Association of America receive surveys. Clubs are judgedbased on five aspects:

Quality of MembershipTradition and CultureAmenitiesGovernanceQuality of Management and Staff

Simply being the site of a major tour event and enjoying a superb golf coursedoesn’t necessarily warrant a club’s inclusion among the top 235. As inprevious years the clubs are ranked in six different categories: country clubs, city, golf, athletic, yacht, and residential communities. Earning the PlatinumClub designation is something we should be very proud to share. Anyone whobelongs to a club wants to believe that his or her club is the best in the area inwhich they reside. Our Club’s designation as a Platinum Club of America servesto attract great new members and to “benchmark” CCY as a model club for thoseaspiring clubs to emulate.

August always seems to bring about a bit of anxiety that summer is almost over.Fortunately, CCY has plenty to offer whether it’s dining outside on one of thepatios, golfing, swimming, playing tennis, attending Crab Night or our WineDinner series. Labor Day is just around the corner, be sure to sign up early forour dinner buffet and Grand Finale Fireworks Display that will be bigger andbetter then ever! Also just a quick reminder for our male members, guests andjuniors to please respect our tradition of having your shirts tucked in at all timeson the golf course, range and putting green. As always please send yourcomments and suggestions to me by phone or email ([email protected]) at anytime!

Congratulations to you and our Staff for achieving Platinum Clubs of Americastatus!

Wine Cellar Corner“Wines of the Month” for August

Red - Willowbrook Cellars, Pinot Noir, Napa Valley, 2006In 2006 Willowbrook crossed the county line and securedfruit from a high elevation vineyard in Napa Valley. Thevineyard sits in the southernmost part of Atlas peak at thevery end of Wild Horse valley. It receives a great deal ofsun and cool winds coming off San Pablo bay resultingin an outstanding climate for Pinot Noir. The vineyardexperiences extremes of climate - one day it may be hotand dry and the next day the fog from the bay packs thevineyard with cool moisture. This allows for maximumflavor development and good acid retention. The resulting wine has classic mountain Pinot flavors and is structurally a biggerwine than any of the Sonoma or Marin County wines produced in the past. Ithas abundant fruit flavors and aromas of black cherry with hints of strawberry, forest floor and barrel spices.

Bottle $ 40.00 – Glass $ 10.00

White - Segrel, Albariño, Rias Baixas, Spain, 2008Albariño is primarily grown in the Rias Baixas region of NW Spain. This wetand cool climate allows the varietal to exhibit freshness, quality fruit andgood acidity. Made from 100% Albarino grapes and exhibiting a greenish yellow in color with an aromatic nose with hints of citrus fruit and greenapple this wine is fine and elegant on the palate with the perfect amount ofacidity and a crisp and clean finish. This wine makes for an excellent pairingwith a variety of seafood, such as oysters, scallops and sea bass.

Bottle $ 34.00 – Glass $ 8.50

August Beer of the MonthSam Adams Cherry Wheat $ 3.75

Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat follows the centuries old American tradition ofbrewing beer with native ingredients, in this case Michigan cherries as wellas a touch of honey. The sweet fruitiness of the cherries is balanced againstthe crisp, cereal note from the malted wheat and the subtle citrus flavor fromthe Noble hops. The end result is a sweet, refreshing beer that is light on thepalate but long on complexity.

Christmas Formals

Christmas Formal reservations will begin at 9a.m. on Monday, October 5th, 2009

The following are a few pointers that may assist you with your reservations:

1. Reservations are taken both by telephone (843-8078) and in person. It isnot necessary to come to the CCY to make your reservation. If table location is a priority, making a reservation in person may help, but is not aguarantee.

2. If you choose to sign up in person, you are welcome to arrive early on the5th, take a number and sign in on the reservation sheet in the Terrace Room, and relax with a cup of coffee while socializing. Reservations will not betaken until 9a.m. for both members arriving in person and for memberstelephoning. Both “in person” and telephone reservations will be takensimultaneously.

3. Only one member per reserved table needs to sign up. Tables can bereserved for a minimum of two people or a maximum of 20 people. Whenmaking your reservation have a list of members seated at your table forbilling purposes. If a guest is invited, note the name of the member to bebilled.

4. The Christmas Formals are a popular holiday event and a waiting list forthe Second Formal is sometimes necessary. Historically, though, all members and families as well as house guests have been included.

We hope this information concerning the Christmas Formal reservationprocess will be helpful to you. We look forward to being with our members at these popular holiday dinner dances.

How to hit a “punch” shot or low wind shot. This is a shot we all need to have in the bag on those windy days or when weget stuck under a tree (A lot of trees at CCY!). Follow these steps in your set-up first:

1. Position your feet close together and place the ball slightly back in your stance.

2. You want to choke up on the grip about an inch or soto help stiffen the club shaft.

3. Weight should be favoring your front foot about 60%to 40% on the back foot.

In your swing, the tendency is try and swing too hard which in the wind putstoo much spin on the ball. So, feel like you take your swing back to 9 o’clockand finish the same height on your follow through keeping a nice tempo.Work on this shot with any club and learn how to control the height of the ballto help in those windy conditions!
