First Sunday of Lent Genesis recalls the first sin committed by humankind: disobedience to God. The second reading from Romans explains how Christ came to counter that sin of disobedience with his perfect obedience. In the Gospel, Jesus remains perfectly faithful to his Father as he resists the temptations put to him by the devil in the desert.

Our 2017 Diocesan Services Fund (DSF) begins this weekend in every parish throughout the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Christ calls us to reach those who are sick or in need, to bless them, serve them, and show them mercy. The thousands of people served by the ministries of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston need your compassion and generosity. Your kind gift to DSF enables us to reach out to people in this parish and throughout the entire archdiocese through more than 60 important programs. All registered parishioners will receive a letter from Cardinal DiNardo, along with a personalized pledge card, inviting you to Go Make Disciples. Pray about your DSF 2017 commitment, then complete the enclosed pledge card and return it via mail in the special envelope provided or bring it to Mass next weekend. Diocesan Social Ministries Collection Ash Wednesday, March 1

Each parish does what it can to address the needs of the people who live within their area but there are many people whose needs cannot be met by their parish alone. The Diocesan Social Ministries help these people through social service agencies like Catholic Charities, San Jose Clinic and St. Vincent de Paul Society. At this time, the beginning of Lent, let us think of the needs of our neighbors and offer alms for their benefit.

Black and Indian Missions Collection

Next Weekend Many new evangelization efforts are being made in the Black, Indian, Eskimo and Aleute communities. This collection supports evangelization efforts for some of the neediest people across the United States; from the inner cities of the rural South and from the deserts of the Southwest to Alaska’s cold wilderness. Through your gifts, you join in sacrifice with those who sacrifice daily to lead others to Christ.

Colecta para el Ministerio Social Diocesano El Miércoles de Ceniza, 1 de Marzo

Cada parroquia hace lo que puede para sensibilizar a la comunidad sobre las necesidades de la gente que vive en su propia área aunque hay muchas necesidades que la gente tiene y que la parroquia sola no puede solucionar. El Ministerio Social Diocesano ayuda a esas personas a través de agencias de servicio social como las Caridades Católicas, la Clínica San José y la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul. En este momento en que iniciamos nuestro tiempo de Cuaresma, pensemos en las necesidades de nuestros vecinos y ofrezcámosles a ellos una ayuda generosa que los beneficiará enormemente.
