  • ConformityThis product complies with the directive of the Council of the EuropeanCommunities on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating toelectromagnetic compatibility (EMC Directive 2004/108/EC) and concerningelectrical equipment for use within specified voltage limits (Low-voltage directive2006/95/EC). This conformity is the result of tests conducted by ABB inaccordance with the product standards EN 50263 and EN 60255-26 for the EMCdirective, and with the product standards EN 60255-1 and EN 60255-27 for the lowvoltage directive. The IED is designed in accordance with the internationalstandards of the IEC 60255 series.

  • Safety informationDangerous voltages can occur on the connectors, even though theauxiliary voltage has been disconnected.

    Non-observance can result in death, personal injury or substantialproperty damage.

    Only a competent electrician is allowed to carry out the electricalinstallation.

    National and local electrical safety regulations must always befollowed.

    The frame of the IED has to be carefully earthed.

    Whenever changes are made in the IED, measures should be takento avoid inadvertent tripping.

    The IED contains components which are sensitive to electrostaticdischarge. Unnecessary touching of electronic components musttherefore be avoided.

  • Section 1 Introduction

    1.1 This manualThe operation manual contains instructions on how to operate the IED once it hasbeen commissioned. The manual provides instructions for monitoring, controllingand setting the IED. The manual also describes how to identify disturbances andhow to view calculated and measured power grid data to determine the cause of afault.

    1.2 Intended audienceThis manual addresses the operator, who operates the IED on a daily basis.The operator must be trained in and have a basic knowledge of how to operateprotection equipment. The manual contains terms and expressions commonly usedto describe this kind of equipment.

The manual provides instructions on how to set up aPCM600 project and insert IEDs to the project structure. The manual alsorecommends a sequence for engineering of protection and control functions, LHMIfunctions as well as communication engineering for IEC 60870-5-103, IEC 61850and DNP3.The installation manual contains instructions on how to install the IED. Themanual provides procedures for mechanical and electrical installation. The chaptersare organized in chronological order in which the IED should be installed.The commissioning manual contains instructions on how to commission the IED.The manual can also be used by system engineers and maintenance personnel forassistance during the testing phase. The manual provides procedures for checkingof external circuitry and energizing the IED, parameter setting and configuration as

  • well as verifying settings by secondary injection. The manual describes the processof testing an IED in a substation which is not in service. The chapters are organizedin chronological order in which the IED should be commissioned.The operation manual contains instructions on how to operate the IED once it hasbeen commissioned. The manual provides instructions for monitoring, controllingand setting the IED. The manual also describes how to identify disturbances andhow to view calculated and measured power grid data to determine the cause of afault.The service manual contains instructions on how to service and maintain the IED.The manual also provides procedures for de-energizing, de-commissioning anddisposal of the IED.The application manual contains descriptions of preconfigurations. The manual canbe used as a reference for configuring control, protection, measurement, recordingand LED functions. The manual can also be used when creating configurationsaccording to specific application requirements.The technical manual contains application and functionality descriptions and listsfunction blocks, logic diagrams, input and output signals, setting parameters andtechnical data sorted per function. The manual can be used as a technical referenceduring the engineering phase, installation and commissioning phase, and duringnormal service.The communication protocol manual describes a communication protocolsupported by the IED. The manual concentrates on vendor-specific implementations.The point list manual describes the outlook and properties of the data pointsspecific to the IED. The manual should be used in conjunction with thecorresponding communication protocol manual.

    1.4 Symbols and conventions1.4.1 Safety indication symbols

    The electrical warning icon indicates the presence of a hazardwhich could result in electrical shock.

    The warning icon indicates the presence of a hazard which couldresult in personal injury.

    The caution icon indicates important information or warning relatedto the concept discussed in the text. It might indicate the presenceof a hazard which could result in corruption of software or damageto equipment or property.

    The information icon alerts the reader of important facts andconditions.

    The tip icon indicates advice on, for example, how to design yourproject or how to use a certain function.

    Although warning hazards are related to personal injury, it is necessary tounderstand that under certain operational conditions, operation of damagedequipment may result in degraded process performance leading to personal injuryor death. Therefore, comply fully with all warning and caution notices.

    1.4.2 Manual conventionsConventions used in IED manuals. A particular convention may not be used in thismanual. Abbreviations and acronyms in this manual are spelled out in the glossary. The

    glossary also contains definitions of important terms. Push button navigation in the LHMI menu structure is presented by using the

    The function can be enabled and disabled with the Operation setting. The ^ character in front of an input or output signal name in the function block

    symbol given for a function, indicates that the user can set an own signal namein PCM600.

    The * character after an input or output signal name in the function blocksymbol given for a function, indicates that the signal must be connected toanother function block in the application configuration to achieve a validapplication configuration.

    2.1 Sustainable developmentSustainability has been taken into account from the beginning of the product designincluding the pro-environmental manufacturing process, long life time, operationreliability and disposing of the IED.The choice of materials and the suppliers have been made according to the EURoHS directive (2002/95/EC).     Operational reliability and long life time have been assured with extensive testingduring the design and manufacturing processes. Moreover, long life time issupported by maintenance and repair services as well as by the availability of spareparts.Design and manufacturing have been done under a certified environmental system.The effectiveness of the environmental system is constantly evaluated by anexternal auditing body. We follow environmental rules and regulationssystematically to evaluate their effect on our products and processes.

    2.2 Disposing of the IEDDefinitions and regulations of hazardous materials are country-specific and changewhen the knowledge of materials increases. The materials used in this product aretypical for electric and electronic devices.All parts used in this product are recyclable. When disposing of an IED or its partscontact a local waste handler who is authorized and specialized in disposing

    3.1 Overview630 series consists of IEDs for protection, control, measurement and supervision ofutility and industrial distribution substations, medium and large asynchronousmotors in industrial power systems, and transformers in utility and industry powerdistribution networks.

    630 series is a part of ABBs Relion product family. The 630 protection andcontrol product series is characterized by functional scalability and flexibleconfigurability. It also features necessary control functions for bay control indifferent applications.The supported communication protocols including IEC 61850 offer seamlessconnectivity to various station automation and SCADA systems.

    The LHMI is used for setting, monitoring and controlling .

    3.2.1 DisplayThe LHMI includes a graphical monochrome display with a resolution of 320 x240 pixels. The character size can vary. The amount of characters and rows fittingthe view depends on the character size and the view that is shown.The display view is divided into four basic areas.

    The path shows the current location in the menu structure. If the path is toolong to be shown, it is truncated from the beginning, and the truncation isindicated with three dots.

    The content area shows the menu content. The status area shows the current IED time, the user that is currently logged in

    and the object identification string which is settable via the LHMI or withPCM600.

    3.2.2 LEDsThe LHMI includes three protection indicators above the display: Ready, Start andTrip.There are also 15 matrix programmable alarm LEDs on front of the LHMI. EachLED can indicate three states with the colors: green, yellow and red. The alarmtexts related to each three-color LED are divided into three pages and can bebrowsed with the Multipage button.Altogether, the 15 physical three-color LEDscan indicate 45 different alarms. The LEDs can be configured with PCM600 andthe operation mode can be selected with the LHMI, WHMI or PCM600.

    3.2.3 KeypadThe LHMI keypad contains push-buttons which are used to navigate in differentviews or menus. With the push-buttons you can you can control objects in the single-line diagram, for example, circuit breakers or disconnectors The push-buttons arealso used to acknowledge alarms, reset indications, provide help and switchbetween local and remote control mode.The keypad also contains programmable push-buttons that can be configured eitheras menu shortcut or control buttons.

    Numerical values are presented either in integer or in decimal format withminimum and maximum values. Character strings can be edited character bycharacter. Enumerated values have a predefined set of selectable values.

    3.2.4.3 Front communicationThe RJ-45 port in the LHMI enables front communication. The green uplink LED on the left is lit when the cable is successfully

    When a computer is connected to the IED front port, the IED's DHCP server forthe front interface assigns an IP address to the computer. The default IP address forthe front port is 192.168.0.254.

    If IED is ordered without LHMI then LAN1 port has to be used forconfiguration and setting purposes. The default IP address for theLAN1 port is 192.168.2.10. DHCP is not available from LAN1 port.

    3.3 Web HMIThe WHMI enables the user to access the IED via a web browser. The supportedweb browser version is Internet Explorer 7.0 or later.

    WHMI is disabled by default. To enable the WHMI, select Mainmenu/Configuration/HMI/Web HMI/Operation via the LHMI.

    3.5 CommunicationThe IED supports communication protocols IEC 61850-8-1, IEC 60870-5-103 andDNP3 over TCP/IP.All operational information and controls are available through these protocols.However, some communication functionality, for example, horizontal

  • communication (GOOSE) between the IEDs, is only enabled by the IEC 61850-8-1communication protocol.Disturbance files are accessed using the IEC 61850 or IEC 60870-5-103 protocols.Disturbance files are also available to any Ethernet based application in thestandard COMTRADE format. The IED can send binary signals to other IEDs (socalled horizontal communication) using the IEC 61850-8-1 GOOSE (GenericObject Oriented Substation Event) profile. Binary GOOSE messaging can, forexample, be employed for protection and interlocking-based protection schemes.The IED meets the GOOSE performance requirements for tripping applications indistribution substations, as defined by the IEC 61850 standard. Further, the IEDsupports the sending and receiving of analog values using GOOSE messaging.Analog GOOSE messaging enables fast transfer of analog measurement valuesover the station bus, thus facilitating for example sharing of RTD input values,such as surrounding temperature values, to other IED applications. The IEDinteroperates with other IEC 61850 compliant IEDs, tools and systems andsimultaneously reports events to five different clients on the IEC 61850 station bus.For a system using DNP3 over TCP/IP, events can be sent to four different masters.For systems using IEC 60870-5-103 IED can be connected to one master in astation bus with star-topology.All communication connectors, except for the front port connector, are placed onintegrated communication modules. The IED is connected to Ethernet-basedcommunication systems via the RJ-45 connector (10/100BASE-TX) or the fibre-optic multimode LC connector (100BASE-FX).IEC 60870-5-103 is available from optical serial port where it is possible to useserial glass fibre (ST connector) or serial plastic fibre (snap-in connector).The IED supports SNTP, DNP3 and IRIG-B time synchronization methods with atime-stamping resolution of 1 ms.

    The IED supports the following time synchronization methods with a timestampingresolution of 1 ms:Ethernet communication based: SNTP (simple network time protocol) DNP3

    With special time synchronization wiring: IRIG-B

    IEC 60870-5-103 serial communication has a time-stamping resolution of 10 ms.

  • 3.6 PCM600 toolProtection and Control IED Manager PCM600 offers all the necessary functionalityto work throughout all stages of the IED life cycle. Planning Engineering Commissioning Operation and disturbance handling Functional analysis

    With the individual tool components, you can perform different tasks and functionsand control the whole substation. PCM600 can operate with many differenttopologies, depending on the customer needs.

    3.6.1 Connectivity packagesConnectivity package is a collection of software and information related to aspecific protection and control terminal providing system products and tools toconnect and interact with the IED. Connectivity packages are used to createconfiguration structures in PCM600. The latest PCM600 and connectivity packagesare backward compatible with older IED versions.Update Manager is a tool that helps in defining the right connectivity packageversions for different system products and tools. Update Manager is included inproducts supporting the connectivity concept.In addition to other products supporting the connectivity concept, the connectivitypackages for PCM600 contain a description of IED's internal parameters and theirproperties (such as data format, unit, setting range, visibility and access rights) aswell as software components that adapt the IED-specific interfaces to the standardinterfaces of system products and tools, such as IED-specific dispatchers for tools.This means that there is a protocol-specific adaptation for the parameter setting anddisturbance handling tool components, for example, disturbance recorder readingaccording to COMTRADE. The description texts can be translated into otherlanguages as well.

    4.1 Using the local HMIAt delivery, logging on is not required and the user has full access until users andpasswords are created with PCM600 and written into the IED.Commands, changing parameter values and resetting indications, for example, areactions requiring password when the password protection is activated. Readinginformation on the LHMI is always allowed without password.

    HMI operations are possible only for authorized users.

    Do not switch off the auxiliary power supply to the IED beforechanges, for example, setting parameter or local/remote controlstate changes are saved.

    A mechanism for limiting the number of writings per time period is included in theIED to prevent the flash memory from wearing out due to too many writingscaused by the application configuration. As a consequence, saving applicationfunction states may take up to an hour. If the auxiliary power is interrupted beforethe states are saved, that change is lost. Settings and configuration parameters aresaved without delay.

    4.1.1 Logging on1. Press to activate the logon procedure.

    The logon is also activated when attempting a password-protected operation.2. Select the user name from the list.

    Once a user is created and written into the IED, logon is possiblewith the password assigned in the tool. If there is no user created,an attempt to log on causes the display to show a correspondingmessage.

  • 4.1.2 Logging offThe user is automatically logged off after the display timeout. The IED returns to astate where only reading is enabled. Manual logoff is also possible.

    4.1.3 Turning the display backlight onThe display backlight is normally off. It turns on at power up. To turn on the backlight manually, press any LHMI push button.

    The backlight turns on and the panel is ready for further operations.

    If the panel has not been used for a predefined timeout period, the backlight isswitched off. The user is logged out from the current user level after the displaybacklight has turned off. The factory default for display timeout is 60 minutes.The display returns to the default view and all unconfirmed operations, for exampleparameter editing and breaker selection are cancelled.

    Change the backlight timeout period in Main menu/Configuration/HMI/LHMI/DisplayTimeout.

    4.1.4 Selecting local or remote useThe control position of the IED can be changed with the R/L button. In localposition primary equipment, such as circuit breakers or disconnectors, can becontrolled via the LHMI. In remote position, control operations are possible onlyfrom a higher level, that is from a control center. Press .

    When the L LED is lit, local control is enabled and remote control disabled. When the R LED is lit, remote control is enabled and local control disabled. When neither of the LEDs is lit, both control positions are disabled.

  • The control position cannot be simultaneously local and remotebut it can be disabled when neither of the positions is active.

    Pressing Cancel in the Save changes dialog closes only the Savechanges dialog box, but the IED remains in editing mode. All thechanges applied to any setting are not lost and the user can continueto change settings. To leave the change setting mode, select No orYes in the Save changes dialog.

    After changing the parameters marked with !, the IED restartsautomatically for the changes to take effect.

    4.1.14 Clearing and acknowledgingThe Clear button is used to reset, acknowledge or clear all messages andindications, including LEDs and latched outputs as well as registers and recordings.

    4.2.7 Committing settingsEditable values are stored in the non-volatile flash memory. Values stored in theflash memory are in effect also after reboot.

    5.1 Normal operationIn a normal IED use situation, the basic operation includes monitoring andchecking procedures. Monitoring measured values Checking object states Checking function setting parameters Checking events and alarms

    5.2.1 Disturbance recording triggeringDisturbance recordings are normally triggered by IED applications when theydetect fault events. Disturbance recordings can also be triggered manually orperiodically. The manual trigger generates an instant disturbance report. Use thisfunction to get a snapshot of the monitored signals.

    5.2.2 Disturbance record analysisThe IED collects disturbance records of fault events which are set to trigger thedisturbance recorder. Disturbance data is collected and stored for later viewing andanalysis. The disturbance recorder data can be read and analyzed with PCM600.

    5.2.3 Disturbance reportsPCM600 can be used for creating reports of disturbance recorder data.

    5.2.4 Internal IED errorsThe IED self-supervision handles internal run-time fault situations. The mainindication of an internal fault is a flashing green Ready LED.More detailed information can be found from Main menu/Monitoring/IED statusor Main menu/Monitoring/Internal events.Internal faults can be divided to hardware errors, run-time errors in the applicationor operating system and communication errors. Further actions always depend onthe cause of the error.

    The IED records IED status data and events.

    Document all the recorded data from the IED before resetting thetripping and IED lockout functions.

    5.3 IED parametrizationIED parameters are set via the LHMI, WHMI or PCM600.Setting parameters need to be calculated according to the electrical networkconditions and the electrical characteristics of the protected equipment. The IED'ssettings need to be verified before the IED is connected to a system.

    Document all changes to parameter settings.

    Do not switch off the auxiliary power supply to the IED beforechanges, for example, setting parameter or local/remote controlstate changes are saved.

    A mechanism for limiting the number of writings per time period is included in theIED to prevent the flash memory from wearing out due to too many writingscaused by the application configuration. As a consequence, saving applicationfunction states may take up to an hour. If the auxiliary power is interrupted beforethe states are saved, that change is lost. Settings and configuration parameters aresaved without delay.

    5.3.1 IED settings for IED functionalityFunction settings can be edited one by one by navigating to the individual settingvalues, for example via the LHMI. The values in other setting groups should beknown before editing a certain setting value.

  • After completing the editing of setting group values, the new values are activated.The user can either commit the edited values or discard them.

    5.3.2 IED settings for different operating conditionsIED settings can be designed for various operation conditions by defining differentsetting values to different setting groups. The active setting group can be changedby the IED application or manually via the LHMI, WHMI or PCM600.

    The IED contains only one setting group by default. The number ofsetting groups can be selected from 1 to 4.

    6.1 Monitoring6.1.1 Indications

    The operation of the IED can be monitored via three different indications on theLHMI. Three indicator LEDs with fixed functionality: Ready, Start and Trip 15 programmable three-color alarm LEDs which can present 45 virtual LED

    states Texts which are shown on the alarm view can be programmed for each

    LED colour and off state. Programming can be done with PCM600, viaWHMI and LHMI. These texts are displayed on the LHMI.

    6.1.1.1 Using auto-indication messagesAuto-indication messages are shown in a dialog box that is displayed when thedisturbance recorder is triggered. The indication dialog box shows a list of currentdisturbance recordings one by one. To scroll the dialog, use and .

    To activate the auto-indication message function, the disturbancerecorder function has to be activated and properly configured.Check also that the setting Main menu/Configuration/HMI/LHMI/AutoIndicationDRP is set to On.

    6.1.2.1 Using the local HMI or Web HMI for monitoring

    Select Main menu/Measurements to monitor measured and calculatedvalues.Fundamental frequency based values submenu shows values in the DFT mode.Available measured and calculated values depend on measurement functionswhich are included in the application configuration.

    On the LHMI, the selected submenu can be scrolled with and.

    WHMI supports the phasor diagrams that can be found under the measurementnode in the navigation tree. Phasor diagrams are based on values that can be foundunder Fundamental frequency based values.

    6.1.2.2 Using PCM600 for monitoring

All the information required for later fault analysis isrecorded when the function is triggered either internally or externally.One or three sets of recorded data are available saved in data banks 1-3. The databank 1 always holds the most recent recorded data. When a new triggering occurs,older data is moved into the next banks (from 1 to 2, and from 2 to 3). When allthree banks already contain data, and a new triggering occurs, the data in bank 3 isoverwritten.For some functions, only one set of recorded data is available. In this case, therecorded data always overwrites the older data in data bank 1.
