Overview

Nat ive Tools for UNIX and W indows p lat fo r ms p rov ide an alternat ive method for installing ,

patch ing , un installing , and upgrad ing the fo llowing types of agen ts:

• Master Agent

• Host Agent

• Database Agent for Ora cle

• Common Mapping Agent

• Symmetrix SDM Agent

• Storage Agent for Sy mmetrix

NOTE: For agent compatibility on each platform refer to Support Matrix.

Installing agents with UNIX native tools

Installing agents with a Nat ive Installer is a one step process. The agent gets installed on the

target host using the Nat ive Installer and upon start-up is automat ically d iscovered and added to

the Contro lCenter Repos ito ry .

The interact ive and silent modes of installat ion on the four p lat fo r ms AIX, HP-UX, Linux, and

Solaris are d iscussed in the fo llowing sub -top ics:

• AIX Native Install Interact ive Mode

• AIX Native Install Silen t Mode

• HP- U X Native Install Interact ive Mode

• HP- U X Native Install Silent Mode

• Linux Native Install Interact ive Mode

• Linux Native Install Silent Mode

• Solaris Nat ive Install In teract ive Mode

Prerequisites

You must have EMC Contro lCenter 6.1 UB11 installed before you atte mpt to install the agen ts

using the native install methods .

The native install agent included with Patch CC_4960.zip will be at Contro lCenter 6.1 vers ion

6.1.0.11.860.

Download the Cont ro lCenter 6.1 Nat ive Installers from the EMC Powerlink website (regist rat ion

requ ired ) at : http ://Powerlink. EMC. co m.

AIX native install interactive mode

To install agents on AIX in the interact ive mode:

1. While logged in as root, enter the fo llowing command , specify ing the mount po int as an

argu ment:

install_native.sh <mount_point>

For exa mple:

./install_native.sh /usr/cc61native

The program d isp lays the fo llowing message:

2. Enter the requested system data .

ECC Server's Host FQDN or IP address[]:

• If you enter the hostna me, the IP address is not requ ired . EMC

reco mmends that you enter the hostna me.

• If you enter an IP address, you will be p ro mpted to enter the ECC Server

hostna me.

3. Accept the defau lt values for the fo llowing p ro mpts (if co rre ct ):

• Y, to tell the installat ion p rogram to write the configurat ion files with the

specified values .

• N, to tell the installat ion p rogra m not to write the configurat ion files. The

progra m will p ro mpt you for new values.

• Q, to quit the p rogra m without writ ing configurat ion files or p ro mpt ing fo r

new data .

AIX native install silent mode

While logged in as root, enter the fo llowing command , specify ing the mount po int as an

argu ment:

install_native.sh <mount point> [-s <silent-install-file>]

For exa mple:

./install_native.sh /usr/cc61native -s /tmp/SilentAIX.txt

The installat ion p roceeds and completes using the parameters specified in the SilentAIX.txt

file. If a part icu lar parameter is not used by the AIX operat ing system it is skipped.

Note: Accept the default ECC_PATH value as all ControlCenter Agents on an AIX host must be

installed under /usr/ecc.

• The ECC_SERVER_HOSTIP parameter can contain the IP Address for a NAT installat ion

• The installat ion p rogram does not validate the p rov ided values in the Silent Install file .

Ensure that you enter the correct values .



HP-UX native install interactive mode

To install agents on HP-UX in the interact ive mode:

1. While logged in as root, enter the following command, specify ing the mount po int as an

argu ment:

2. The installat ion script p ro mpts for the root Contro lCenter installat ion directo ry .

Please enter ECC root directory[]:

3. Enter the directo ry where you intend to install all Contro lCenter Agents. Accept the

defau lt of /us r/ec c or enter another d irecto ry path and name, bearing the fo llowing in

mind:

• Do not include spaces in the path (for example, the fo llowing d irecto ry path is

not valid: /EMC So ftware/ec c).

• Do not specify only the root d irecto ry (for example, the fo llowing directo ry

path is not valid: /).

4. The p rogram d isp lays the fo llowing message:

Log File is located at <ECC root

directory>/install_native.log

5. Enter the requested system data .

• If you enter the hostna me, the IP address is not requ ired . EMC

updates the rc.d entries with the eccmad script, which starts and stops the

Master Agent ).

The installat ion p roceeds and completes using the para meters specified in the SilentHP-

UX.txt file. If a part icu lar parameter is not used by the HP-UX operat ing system, it is s kipped.

The parameters of HP-UX Silent Install File are same as that of AIX Silent Install File . You can

refer to AIX Silent Install File Para meters with Example Values to get a glimpse of HP-UX Silent

Install File Parameters with example values .



Linux native install interactive mode

To install agents on Linux in the interact ive mode:

1. While logged in as root, enter the following command, specify ing the moun t point as an

argu ment:

SilentLinux.txt file. If a part icu lar parameter is not used by the Linux operat ing system, it is

skipped.

The parameters of Linux Silent Install File are same as that of AIX Silent Install File . You can

refer to AIX Silent Install File Para meters with Example Values to get a glimpse of Linux Silent




Solaris native install interactive mode

To install agents on Solaris in the interact ive mode:

1. While logged in as root, enter the following command, specify ing the moun t point as an

argu ment:

Solaris native install silent mode

While logged in as root, enter the fo llowing command , specify ing the mount point as an

The installat ion p roceeds and completes using the parameters specified in the

SilentSunOS.txt file. If a part icu lar parameter is not used by the Solaris operat ing system, it is

skipped.

The parameters of Solaris Silent Install File are same as that of AIX Silent Install File. You can

refer to AIX Silent Install File Para meters with Example Values to get a glimpse of Solaris Silent




Uninstalling agents with UNIX native tools

Uninstalling agents with a Nat ive Installer is a two step process. The agent must first be

un installed th rough the Cont ro lCenter Console in order to re move it from the Contro lCenter

Repos ito ry. Then, it can be un installed from the target host using the appropriate Nat ive Too l

(installp, s wremove, rpm, or pkgr m).

Co mmon steps for uninstall ing

Perfo rm the fo llowing common steps:

1. Un install agents th rough the Contro lCenter Conso le .

2. Make sure all agents are stopped on the agent host by going to the Master Agent

directo ry and using the eccmad stop all agents command:

cd /usr/ecc/exec

./eccmad stopall

Note: Alw ays unins tall the Master agent last.

The above steps are common for un installing Agents in any p lat fo rm. The re main ing steps vary

depend ing upon the plat fo r m.

AIX native uninstall

Complete these steps after the perfo r ming the common steps for un installing d is cuss ed at the

beg inn ing of this chapter:

1. Run the fo llowing command to un install the Database Agent for Ora cle:

installp -u ECCAGENTS.ORACLE

2. Run the fo llowing command to un install the Host Agen t:

installp -u ECCAGENTS.HOST

3. Run the fo llowing command to un install the Storage Agent for Sy mmetrix:

installp -u ECCAGENTS.SYMMETRIX

4. Run the fo llowing command to un install the Symmetrix SDM Agent :

installp -u ECCAGENTS.SDM

5. Run the fo llowing command to un install the Master Agen t:

installp -u ECCAGENTS.MASTER



HP-UX native uninstall




swremove ECC_OAGENT


swremove ECC_HAGENT


swremove ECC_SAGENT


swremove ECC_DAGENT


swremove ECC_MAGENT

Linux native uninstall

Installing agents with Windows native tools

To install any or all of the above agents from a command prompt on a W indows host, download

the Contro lCenter 6.1 Nat ive Installer from the EMC Powerlink website (reg ist rat ion requ ired) at:

http ://Powerlink. EMC. co m

To install agents on Windows :

1. Create a fo lder to download to, for example: C:\ecc\WinNativeInstall

2. Download the W indows Nat ive Tools folder to the folder created in Step 1 (for exa mple,

WinNat iveInstall).

3. Open a Co mmand Prompt and go to the folder created in Step 1 (for exa mple,

WinNat iveInstall):

cd <WinNativeInstall folder>

Note: In the Steps 4 th rough 7 lines in [b rackets] are opt ional, all other lines are requ ired.

4. Run Nat ive_agents-W in32_6.1.0.11.860.exe as follows to install the Master and all Sub

Agents:

In the command syntax

• CMD LI NE must be specified as t rue .

• INSTALLDI R is the root d irecto ry where the agents are to be installed. This parameter is

requ ired.

• SERVERHOST NAME_O RIP is the ECC Server FQDN or ECC Server IP address. Th is

para meter is requ ired.

• SERVERHOSTNAME_NAME is the ECC Server Hostname. This parameter is requ ired.

• SERVER_PORT is the ECC Server Listen ing Port number. The defau lt value is 5799. Th is

para meter is opt ional—if not specified, the defau lt value is used.

• SECURE_SERVER_PORT is the ECC Server Secure Listen ing Port number. The defau lt

value is 10799. This parameter is optional—if not specified , the defau lt value is used.

• MAP ORT is the Master Agent Listen ing Port number. The defau lt value is 5798. Th is

para meter is opt ional—if not specified, the defau lt value is used.

• INSTALLH OSTA GENT ind icates that the W indows Host Agent is to be installed . Th is

para meter is opt ional—if not specified, the defau lt value (false) is used.



• INSTALLO RACLEA GENT ind icates that the Windows Database Agent for Oracle is to

be installed . Th is para meter is opt ional—if not specified, the defau lt value (false) is used.

• INSTALLCMAA GENT ind icates that the Windows Common Mapping Agent is to be

installed . Th is para meter is opt ional—if not specified , the defau lt value (false) is used.

• INSTALLS YMMETRI XA GENT ind icates that the Storage Agent for Symmetrix is to be

installed . Th is parameter is optional—if not specified , the defau lt value (false) is used.ing

Nat ive Tools to Install and Un install Agents

• INSTALLS DMA GENT ind icates that the Symmetrix SDM Agent is to be installed . Th is

para meter is opt ional—if not specified, the defau lt value (false) is used.

• [/L*] ind icates that Nat ive_agents-W in32_6.1.0.11.860.exe is to create a log file

(<LogOutputFile>) that describes its p rogress .

• <LogOutputFile> is the location of the log file for Nat ive_agents-Win32_6.1.0.11.860.exe .

The directo ry must exist in the file system before you enter the command . Messages that

would normally appear in dialog boxes du ring interact ive installat ion will be p refixed

with the fo llowing string: ECC_LOG_MESSA GE. For example: C:\ecc\e c c_test ing .log .

Uninstalling agents with Windows native tools

1. Un install agents th rough the Contro lCenter Conso le .

2. Make sure the Master Agent Service is stopped and the W indows Services window is

closed.

3. Go to a Command Prompt in the W inNat iveInstall fo lder:

cd <WinNativeInstall folder>

4. Run setup.exe as follows to un install the Master and all Sub Agents:

setup.exe /s /v"/qn CMDLINE=true REMOVE=ALL


5. Run setup.exe as follows to un install just the Host Agent:

setup.exe /s /v"/qn CMDLINE=true REMOVE=Host


6. Run setup.exe as follows to un install just the Oracle Agent :

setup.exe /s /v"/qn CMDLINE=true REMOVE=Oracle


7. Run setup.exe as follows to un install just the CMA Agent:

setup.exe /s /v"/qn CMDLINE=true REMOVE=CMA


8. Run setup.exe as follows to un install just the Storage Agent for Sy mmetrix:



setup.exe /s /v"/qn CMDLINE=true REMOVE=Symmetrix


9. Run setup.exe as fo llows to un install just the Symmetrix SDM Agen t:

setup.exe /s /v"/qn CMDLINE=true REMOVE=SDM


In the command syntax

• [/L*] ind icates that setup.exe is to create a log file (<LogOutpu tFile>) that describes its

p rogress .

• <LogOutputFile> is the location of the log file for setup .exe. The d irecto ry must exist in

the file system before you enter the command . Messages that wou ld nor mally appear in

dialog boxes du ring interact ive installat ion will be prefixed with the following st ring :

E CC_ LOG_M ESSAGE.

For example: C:\ecc\ecc_testing.log
