March 01, 2011 60 th IB launches the first Youth Leadership Summit in Davao Del Norte Camp Panacan, Davao City - The 60 th Infantry “Mediator” Battalion successfully launched the first Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) in the Municipality of Asuncion, Davao del Norte on Friday, February 25, 2011. This is to give a profound experience to its participants to unleash their true potential and develop lifelong skills. Wit h a theme “Pea ce and Pros peri ty: Our Shared Res pons ibil ity” , this thr ee-d ay event was initiated to develop youth leaders to become God fearing, disciplined, socially responsible and a leader with great sense of patriotism enabling them to promote peace and development in the region. More or less 120 youth leaders participated in the said activity coming from the twenty different barangays of the Municipality of Asuncion, Davao del Norte. This was composed of ten out of school youths, twenty from the Indigenous People (IP) sector and ninety SK leaders with ages from 14-20 years old. “I am very glad that there’s a Youth Leadership Summit here in Barangay Asuncion because it gave us, the yout h, an opport unit y to be tr ai ned as fu ture leader s” , May Jo y Suar ez, representative of the IP’s from Brgy. Cambanogoy, Asuncion Davao del Norte, said. The 10th Infantry Division is conducting Youth Leadership Summit in the area of Region 11 to protect the youth against the exploitation of unlawful organization that destroys democracy and the duly constituted government. “We conduct this Youth Leadership Summit in Asuncion, Davao del Norte to educate and give security awareness to all youth in this area”, Lt. Col. Greg Almerol, Commanding Officer of the 60 th Infantry Battalion, said. In this summit, the youth were able to showcase their talents and capabilities thru series of activities prepared for them to include leadership and team building; poster and flag making; spiritual encounter and tree planting. These activities were facilitated by Raymond Domingo from the National Youth Commission (NYC) with the assistance from the Local Youth Service Provider from the Municipality of Asuncion. “With their learning experience in this three-day event, the first Youth Leadership Summit, we’re planning to do a program as a follow up for this one”, Hon. Joseph Nilo Pareñas, Municipal Mayor of Asuncion, Davao Del Norte, said. He also thanked the 1003 rd Brigade , 60th Infantry Battalion and the local PNP, especially the youth who participated, who worked hard in making the said event successful. “Thank you to everyone. I am hoping that later on we will reap the fruits of our labor”, he added.
