At tire order front thesectionconmnrander—2 and3 supply themselveswith the dragropes and hook them

to thedrag washerson their own sides. The two highestnumbersgo to the point of the pole. ‘rho remainder man the ropes,evennumberson therear side odd numberson tlu~off.

At the order “I/alt” the carriagesare halted and the dctachmentsremainat their posts.

At theorder front C/ic sectioncommander—1 seesthat the bore is clear, superintendsthe other men,and

satisfieshimself that thegun and carriageare in all respectsreadyfor action.

Each man resumeshis place as soon as hue has completedhisduties.

DUTIES.1, before leaving the~un park, will ascertain that the buffer is

properly fulled, lie will be careful to note if the gland of thebuffer is leaking; if the gland ieak~a seriousaccidentmayoccurto theequipmentduring firing owing to the lossof fluid from thebuffer.

lie commands,anti, when time fuzcsare used,will seethat theyare setcorrectly.

Whenshifting the gun from travelling to firing position,or viceversd,hewill see that the traversinggear is set at zero,and thatthe gun doesnot foul thesupportingplate.

When laying direct 3 should alwayslevel tire sigirt clinometcrassoon aspossibie.

If it is necessaryto move time trail to get tire gum approximatelyin line before laying tire first round,a dragrope is hookedto tiretrail handlesand mannedby time wirole detacirment; 1 standsinrear of the trail to enable him to see when tine gun is movedsufficiently.

TO FIRE.A gun is not to be fired without the order fionn 1, who must

nevergive tins order until he seesthat the gum is in all respectsready.

CHANGE OF TARGET.

Tire dial sight is immediately laid on an aiming point, orauxiliary aiming point, and the angle noted. The switchangleisaddedto or subtractedfrom this angle and the dial sight resettotine angle thus obtained. The dial sight is rehaidon the aimingpoint by moving thetrail andaimingpostsplanted(if required)inline with the dial sight setat zero. Ihe traversinggear is setatzero for convenience.

To Ascertain the Lowest Range at which theTrajectory will Clear the Crest.

Lay gun on crestwith tangentsightsetto a liberal e8timateofrangeto crest or obstacle. The resultantquadrantelevationis tirelowest that will allow the trajectoryto clear.

To Ascertain whetherthe Trajectory will Clear tileCrest,the Angie of Sight and Range being Known.

Lay gun with quadrantelevation due to tIre angleof siglrt +range. Set tangentsight to a liberal estimateof the rangeto thecrest or obstacle. If this line clears tire crest the trajectorywilldo so.

TO REPLACE A DAMAGED WHEEL.Shoulda ~un wheel be disabled in action,notice sirouidbesent

to the captain.The latter will immediatelysendupanotherwheel,which will be

brought alongsidethe damagedone, and the wheels cirangedasfollows
