Thanks to all our SJV Carnival Workers! There have been so many changes in our combined parish community since Pastoral planning took effect in June of 2017. What was to stay open? What was closing? Where could weddings, baptisms, funerals be held,? What was combined? There were changes in clergy, schedules, collections, ministries, job descriptions personnel, and on and on....and yes ,what about the carnivals? There was the assumption that with SJV closing , there would no longer be a carnival held on Captain Thomas Blvd during the week
of the fireworks. Nothing was definitive. Tufano Amusements approached the Carnival Com-mittee early in 2018 to explore continuing the 40 plus year tradition on a limited basis. Tufano would provide the rides, games and food trucks and the parish would sponsor the carnival and provide ticket sellers, money counters and clean-up. Since the merger, the parish collections have declined while expenses have risen as a result of unexpected repairs and assuming the school debt. The Committee took a second look and felt it may be beneficial to augment the parish finances as the evening of July 3rd always generated a lot of income. Application was made and it was denied by the City immediately. They later told us that a carnival would be al-lowed only from July 4- 7th. However, if it rained on the night of the fireworks (July 3rd )then we could not have the carnival on the 5th as it was the City’s rain date. After weeks of back and forth the permit was finally issued on June 28th subject to the conditions mentioned. There were five days to put the a carnival together! With all the changes and confusion something didn’t change - the willingness and spirit of our parishioners to help when help is needed! First and foremost, a major big league thank you to Rob Vets and Bob Guthrie who took this challenge on in addition to co- chairing the OLOV carnival which begins this week. Thank you to Ernie Conte for doing what seems like everything at SJV along with Tim Ellis; Kathy and Mike Znosko for another year heading up the ticket booth along with Deacon Frank and Alice Bev-vino, Tom and Diane Coleman, Mary Hackett, Marilyn McCarthy and Riley Collins. Much appre-ciation to Ann Talevi for doing all the tedious paperwork and heading up the counting room along with Michael Argento, Elizabeth Cummings, Noreen Caponera and Justin Cummings; Fi-nally, we are ever so grateful to the fine gentlemen of our Knights of Columbus Council # 14326 who helped with parking and clean up. Also, thank you to all parishioners who supported this carnival.
Thank you all for your time, talent and treasure. Our Lady of Victory Parish is truly blessed. See you this week at the OLOV Carnival!!!!!!
