Relieving Principal’s Report
Dear Parents & Carers,
Congratulations to all our Year 3 & 5 students who have completed the NAPLAN tests this week in
Language Conventions, Writing, Literacy and Numeracy. It is important to praise them for putting in their
best efforts this week and remember that the results give us some evidence of their performance levels in
those areas at this point in the year. The results will be published in August and give you information about
their personal levels of achievement and how they compare to similar aged children around Australia. The
most important information that comes from the tests is the detail for teachers and parents about how to
improve areas where students need additional learning assistance.
I am happy to announce next Monday will be the installation of the much needed carpet replacement in
the following classrooms: 1D, KM, KJ, ESL room in B block and the administration block. There will be minor
changes with classes moving locations during the installation on the day.

STUDENT REPORTS
Parents will receive two written reports each year. The reports will give you a clear picture of your child’s
achievements. They will help you understand how your child is progressing and how we can support your
child’s future learning. The reports are indicative of the achievement level of students across each Key
Learning Area. Kindergarten students, students with learning difficulties and students who are learning
English for the first time will receive a written report but without grades. The report also includes written
comments and indicates progress in social skills, attendance and attitudes to learning. Reports will be sent
home Monday 17 June.
TERM DATES
School term and holiday dates for future years are available on the Department of Education and
Communities website:
http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/calendar/?do=setViewPeriod&categoryid=21&viewType=yearView

lunch be nutritious and appealing. It is not possible for food to be heated at school. Some classes may have
students with special dietary needs and life threatening allergies so please be aware of the school
anaphylaxis policy. Please label all lunch boxes and plastic drink bottles clearly with your child’s name.
P & C News
P&C Meeting
At our meeting on Tuesday night our deputy principal, Mrs Mateski gave an excellent presentation about
the second component of the Kidsmatter initiative. Teachers are using quality literature to explore social
and emotional learning. The discussion around ‘Incorporation of the P&C’ listed for this meeting will be
rescheduled as the first agenda item in General Business at the June P&C meeting.
The next P&C meeting will be held on Wednesday, 12 June at 9.15am.
Don’t forget you can email the P&C at [email protected]
Fundraiser
Have you had trouble finding a raincoat for your child that keeps everything dry? Our next P&C fundraiser
will be a ‘raincoat sale’ just in time for the rainy season. These unique raincoats are ‘cape’ style so they are
easy to take on and off and also cover the child’s backpack. Keep an eye out for information coming out
about this fundraiser in upcoming newsletters.

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY, 24 MAY 2013 Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!
Not only is walking a wonderful way to get you where you want to be, but it
also gets your health – and your child’s health on the right track too. So
that’s why this year our school is participating in National Walk Safely to
School Day on Friday 24 May 2013. Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits
and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get
around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of
us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s
daily routine. You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
- Walking with them the whole way to school - If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop - If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like
obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes, it also gives you a great
opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning on your Walk Safely to School Day journey for
Friday 24 May 2013!
For more information, visit www.walk.com.au Please visit this website if you would like to know more about the
WSTSD App which has been created. This app allows parents, children and care givers to track their
kilometres to and from school, time spent walking and their average walking speed.

As part of the Kidsmatter program, our school will be teaching lessons on social
and emotional skills to all students K-6. Each fortnight, classes will focus on a
different area of social and emotional learning. The focus for this fortnight is on
respect and respectful relationships and the importance of being respectful
towards others.
