Camera: Panasonic X900M HD

Before digital cameras came around we had to shoot the scene/image then get the footage developed in a dark room which was time consuming. It was also a pain to wait so long only to see that the end result was bad and have to do a retake. But since the invention of digital, my experience with technology has been quick and easy. The digital camera used allowed me to record with the simple push of a button, there’s also a preview screen attached so I can be aware of mise en scene while recording. I also have the option of playing back footage on the device itself so that I can decided whether the shot was good or not. This has helped me save time as I can re-record on the spot rather than having to wait and prolong the shooting for another day. The advancement in technology with cameras has helped make the production process fast and helped to use time efficiently.

Boom MicrophoneThe boom microphone is similar to a traditional microphone, only that it allows you to attach it to a pole and place it above, under or have it hidden in places and still produce the same or even better amplified sound. I found the boom mic to be very useful during the production stages of the project. It allowed for us to position the camera without worrying about being too far from sounds needed. Thanks to the boom mic we were able to extended and capture the specific sounds needed without being affected too much by unwanted ambient sounds. However, there were times when the boom mic focussed on sounds we did not want which caused great difficulty in recording and wasted time as we had to keep repositioning and retaking the shots.

Adobe Premiere Pro The Adobe software at first use was quite intimidating, but luckily it came with an inbuilt manual which could be accessed along the top menu bar. There was also online tutorials which helped assist me during the editing process. Premiere Pro has allowed me to preview my work as I edit which grants me the ability to multitask and saves time.It is also easy to export files into the right format needed for it to be put onto mobile devices, laptops and even youtube.

However, the problem with software like these is that they are always upgrading and is therefore hard to keep up with when learning techniques.

Youtube is a sharing website where anyone from professional actors, producers and directors to members of the public such as myself can upload and share videos free of charge. One can even make a living off Youtube if they gather enough subscribers in order to become a partner to Youtube. An example would be Ryan Higa, a student who made a successful comedy sketch channel on Youtube and has since toured the world. My Personal experience with Youtube has been great as it allowed me to browse and find trailers and scenes from movies similar to my chosen genre in order to help find inspiration.I was also able to look at tutorials for Adobe Premiere Pro and also sounds and effects to be used within my sequence. Youtube’s embed section helped me easily access and download files for the use of my project. However, my only problem with youtube is that it is very easy to pirate or claim someone else’s work as your own.
