Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between calories-in and calories-out differs for each person. Factors that might tip the balance include your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high-fat foods and not being physically active.

Being obese increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and some cancers. If you are obese, and you lose even 5 to 10 percent of your weight, this can delay or prevent some of these diseases.

Food Pyramid Eating TipsPiramide De Comida Con Consejos Para Comer
No one food has all the nutrients you need to stay healthy. It is
best to eat different foods from each food group of the Food Guide
Pyramid every day. Use the Pyramid to help you and your family
eat well. All preschoolers need 3 meals plus 2 to 3 snacks. These
half-size serving portions are for a 2- to 3-year-old child; give more
for a 4- to 6-year-old. Preschoolers usually need at least this many
servings of foods from the Food Guide Pyramid for each day:

Children go through many growth stages between 1 to 6 years. At times
they have little interest in eating. Use the Food Guide Pyramid to help plan
meals and snacks your child enjoys. In general, when your child is active
and gaining the right amount of weight, you don’t need to worry about a
small appetite. But at times, eating only small amounts can be a warning
to you. Watch to see if your child is ill, tense, or worried (especially if there
is unusual stress in the home). Take your child to the doctor or clinic for
regular checkups.

Prenatal Nutrition Nutrición Prenatal
A balanced diet is a
basic part of good health at
all times in your life. During
pregnancy, your diet is even
more important. The foods
you eat are the main source of
nutrients for your baby. Healthy
eating during pregnancy may
take a little effort, but it will be a major benefit for you and your baby.
If you have not been eating a healthy diet, pregnancy is a great time
to change old habits and start healthy new ones.
cambiar viejas costumbres e iniciar nuevos hábitos saludables.
How Much Should You Eat?How much you eat is just as important as what you eat. If you are
a normal weight before pregnancy, you need only an average of
300 extra calories per day to fuel your baby’s growth and keep
you healthy during pregnancy—the amount in a glass of skim milk
and half a sandwich. During the first trimester, you need less than
300 extra calories per day. During the third trimester, you will need
slightly more.
Having healthy snacks that you can eat during the day is a good way
to get the nutrients and extra calories you need. You may find it easier
to eat snacks and small meals throughout the day rather than three
big meals a day.
If you are overweight or obese, you will need to pay close attention to
how much you eat during pregnancy. Smaller amounts of weight gain
or even a small weight loss may be recommended to ensure a safe
pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Important: It is necessary to take a
daily approved prenatal vitamin. You
can receive free prenatal vitamins
from your doctor.Importante: Es necesario
tomar vitaminas prenatales
a diario siempre y cuando
esten aprovadas. Puedes
recibir vitaminas
prenatales gratis
de tu doctor.

Secret #3 Enough Rest
Secreto #3 — Suficiente Descanaso
Why do we need to sleep? Because, sleep is necessary for
our brains to function vitally. The right amount of restful sleep is
needed for our overall good health. Sleep has a direct influence on
many of the body’s functions and helps the body to heal, grow, and
recuperate. Recent studies have also linked the risk of obesity to
not getting enough sleep. When we get the right amount of sleep,
the brain will make chemicals that help calibrate hunger and weight.
School-age children need adequate sleep to function at their best.
Added demands on their time for school, out-side activities, and
home life, distractions, and discipline, can add to school-age children
not getting enough rest.

Secreto #4 Mantenimiento Personal & Des-Estresar
We are more than just flesh and bone, than muscle and ligament.
We are made up of energy beyond what scientists can measure.
Secret #6 is about your unique Self, your Spirit. And finding ways to
connect with it so that you can be the happiest person you can be.
This is for your own peace if mind and the benefit of your children. Somosmuchomásquecarneyhueso, muchomásquemúsculoy

As a Mother, you give and give all day long selflessly.
But, you can only give so much until the glass

It’s very important to make a priority and schedule “your time”, each

Your kids sleep every day, instead of cleaning, or working, when they
are sleeping, or watching the television, take at least 10 minutes every
day to an hour, for “you time”.Tusniñosduermenadíario, enlugardelimpiar, otrabajar, cuandose

Example: When my daughter was a baby,
she was very “clingy”, she wouldn’t lay
down in her crib to take a nap. The
only way I could get her to nap was
by taking her in her stroller for a walk.
So I used those hour-long walks also for
“me time”. I made sure to relax my mind and
de-stress myself while I was walking. I didn’t
think about my worries or problems. Not because
I didn’t have them, but because when my mind
wanted to think about negative things, I would
take that out of my mind and think about the good
things. I relaxed my mind, body, and spirit. Plus it
was good for my health as I was also exercising.
After I had my other two kids; I would take them
to the park as part of, “me time”. It was a time I could
de-stress by playing with them and packing a picnic. But I
made sure to do this every day. Another place is the local

De-StressDes-Estresar
Everybody gets stressed from time to time. Different people feel
stress in different ways. Being a parent is NOT easy. Some ways of
dealing with stress — like screaming, hitting someone, or punching a
wall — don’t solve much. But other ways, like talking to someone you
trust, and taking a deep breath, can start you on the road to solving
your problem or at least feeling better.Todaslaspersonassufrendeestresdevezencuandoycada

Try taking these six steps the next time you are stressed:

1. Get support. When you need help, reach out to the people who
care about you.1. BuscaApoyo.Cuandonecesitesayuda,rodéatedepersonasa

2. Don’t freak out! It’s easy to let your
feelings go wild when you’re upset.
Notice your feelings, and name them —
for example, “I am so angry!” And say or
think about why you feel that way. Then, find
a way to calm down and get past the upset
feelings and find a way to express them. 2.¡Notepongasnervioso(a)!Esfácilperder

4. Don’t take it out on yourself, or your children. Sometimes when
people are stressed and upset they take it out on themselves and
their children. Oh, dear, that’s not a good idea. Remember that
there are always people to help you. 4.Notedesquitescontigomismo.Algunasvecescuandolosniños(as)

5. Try to solve the problem. After you’re calm and you have support
from friends and family, it’s time to get down to business. You need
to figure out what the problem is. Even if you can’t solve all of it,
maybe you can begin by solving a piece of it.5.Trataderesolverelproblema.Cuandotesientascalmado(a)

6. Be positive — most stress is temporary. It may not seem like it
when you’re in the middle a stressful situation, but stress does go
away, often when you figure out the problem and start working on
solving it.
These six steps aren’t magic — and you might have to do some steps
more than once, but they do work. And if you can stay positive as you
make your way through a tough time, you’ll help yourself feel better
even faster. Ah . . . it feels so good when the stress is

Secret #5 Safety
Secreto #5 – Seguridad
Dangers for kids exist in every home, often where we least expect
them. Young children who are crawling or learning to walk and are
naturally curious are especially at risk. Children can suffer painful burns
from hot foods or water, or be poisoned by common medicines or
cleaning supplies. They can drown in pools, toilets and even buckets.
Fortunately, there are two simple ways to keep your child safe in the
home. Childproof your home. Explore your home at your child’s level—
by getting down on your hands and knees. Go through every room,
asking yourself what looks tempting and what is within reach. Also,
check carpets for small items like pins or coins that kids can choke on.
Supervise your child(ren). Understand that childproofing can never be
100 percent effective. That’s why it’s so important to supervise your
children at all times, especially in the kitchen and bathroom.

Drugs & PregnancyLas Drogs Y El Embarazo
When you are pregnant, you are not just “eating for two.” You also
breathe and drink for two, so it is important to carefully consider what
you give to your baby. If you smoke, use alcohol or take illegal drugs,
so does your unborn baby.Cuandoseestáembarazadanoessimplemente“comerpordos.”

First, don’t smoke. Smoking during pregnancy passes nicotine and
cancer-causing drugs to your baby. Smoke also keeps your baby
from getting nourishment and raises the risk of stillbirth or premature
birth. Don’t drink alcohol. There is no known safe amount of alcohol a
woman can drink while pregnant. Alcohol can cause life-long physical
and behavioral problems in children, including fetal alcohol syndrome.
Don’t use illegal drugs. Using illegal
drugs may cause underweight
babies, birth defects or
withdrawal symptoms after birth.
If you are pregnant and you
smoke, drink alcohol or do drugs, get help.
Your health care provider can recommend
programs to help you quit. You and your baby
will be better off.

What Is Fetal Alcohol Syndrome? Síndromedealcoholismofetal
I f you are pregnant and drink alcohol, so
does your baby. This can hurt your baby’s
growth and cause life-long physical and
behavioral problems. One of the most severe
effects of drinking during pregnancy is fetal
alcohol syndrome (FAS). FAS is a group of
problems that can includeSiestáembarazadayconsumealcohol,

FAS lasts for a lifetime. There is no cure. Special school services
can help with learning problems. Routines and consistency at home
may help with behavior problems. Women can prevent FAS and
other problems related to alcohol use by not drinking when they are
pregnant or might get pregnant.
