Happy July Lake Shore,

I cannot believe that 2020 is half over and we are starting on the last half of the year. I am writing you this note with a heavy heart. I come to you with my thoughts and heart burdened for two things: The United States of America as a whole and the Kingdom of God and what we will deal with in the future.

I am both an American and a Christian. I rather state more emphatically that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. No, I do not have it all down, but I am going to follow Jesus above everything else. With that said, I am an American that served my country for 10 years in the military. I love this nation. There is no other nation on this earth or ever has been, besides Israel, that has been blessed so much by God.

Yet we come into this month with a lot of things on our heart and mind. So, all I know is that when I am burdened down, have more questions than answers, and may even be at a loss for words (imagine that), I go to the Bible. The Bible is my authority. It is my source for everything that I need. So, let us look at what God’s Word says in Romans 13. Please read Romans 13 and then follow a short outline and note below.

Romans 13:1-2 lets me know exactly where I stand and how I should act. “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” Even if I do not like what decisions are made, I need to understand that God is on His throne and still in control.

Romans 13:3-6 tells us that the government is there to control the people from evil and chaos. When the government does not do its job, what you’ve seen on TV the last couple of months is what you will get. Their job is not to be our servant. The government has a job to do and that is to keep the peace and maintain order. Maintaining order can be on several different levels: financial, cultural, moral, ethical, and so on.

Romans 13:8-10 tells the followers of Jesus Christ what to do: LOVE. Societies will fail, and nations will fall if there is no LOVE among the people. When a nation is divided amongst itself, it will fall. Jesus said if a house is divided among itself, it will fall. The United States of America needs all churches to LOVE everyone, no matter what ideological differences, skin color, theological differences, financial differences, or what part of the nation to which you belong. WE ARE TO LOVE.

Romans 13:11-14 shows us that LOVE cannot happen unless we daily “put on” CHRIST. Now if you are a follower of Jesus, you have HIM “positionally.” In other words, you cannot lose your salvation. However, “practically” WE NEED TO PUT HIM ON. How? Reading your Bible and praying: EVERYDAY. Let Christ manifest Himself in you, through you, and around you.

In His Grasp, By His Grace, For His Glory,
