6 amazing properties Of Bare Copper Wires
Copper wires are used in numerous places. The properties that make copper so versatile is linked to its molecular structure and the position in the periodic table of the elements. Copper is preferred over other commonly found metals owing to the high electrical and heat conductivity.
1. Anti-corrosive:
The bare copper wires are basically resistant against moisture and rust. The wires made of copper are labelled as useful items that can be used in any weather condition in any environment. They are placed relatively low in the Reactivity Series in the Periodic table. This makes them useful for use in electric kettles, pipes, cables and radiator units.
2. Anti-bacterial:
The copper wires are not just corrosive against physical effects of the environment but also offer excellent shield against bacterial growth and pests. The wires have been observed to be resistant against E coli, burger bugs and legionella. They are effectively used in medical instruments, stitching wounds, repairing bones, making cards and strips used in biometric recognition units.
3. Easy welding ability:
The copper wires can be easily welded to other metals. The solder ability of the copper wires is beyond match. It allows the integration of bare copper wires in electrical circuits where the circuit has shortened. Whenever there is a non-availability of a signature element used as a conductor, the copper wires can be soldered and the circuit is completed.
4. Ductility:
Copper is a ductile metal. It can be drawn into super fine structure without compromising on the physical and electrical properties. The bare copper wires are drawn into thin pips and coils as per requirement. The ductility ensures that the resources are not wasted and optimally used.
5.Toughness:
Copper wires are tough and don’t snap unless very high tensile strength is applied across them. They are used in overhead transmission wires covering great distances. The toughness of wires can be further enhanced by insulation properties and the alloy process.
6. Universal Alloys:
Copper can be alloyed with virtually any metal. The most compatible metals that well with the copper wires are tin, nickel, zinc and chromium. Brass and bronze are amazing alloys that double up as utensils and electrical wires as well. Since copper is already blessed with good conductivity and thermal properties, it requires hardening for certain applications without raising its weight.
