President Abraham Lincoln had a disarming and engaging ability to laugh at himself, especially his own physical appearance. When Senator Stephen A. Douglas once called him a “two-faced man,” Lincoln responded, “I leave it to my audience. If I had another face, do you think I would wear this one?”
Another time he told a group of editors about meeting a woman riding on horseback in the wood. She “looked at me intently, and said, ‘I do believe you are the ugliest man I ever saw.’ Said I, ‘Madam, you are probably right, but I can’t help it.’ ‘No,’ she said, ‘you can’t help it, but you might stay at home.’”
Although his likeness is widely recognized, Lincoln is not known primarily for his appearance, but for his courageous stance for restoration of the Union and the abolition of slavery. He is often held up as an example of remarkable patience, determination, dedication, strong will, compassion, thoughtfulness, and selflessness. These inner qualities are what mark Lincoln as one of America’s greatest presidents.
So much is made in our culture today of outward appearance and material possessions. We do well to remember that it is our virtuous inner qualities that create a lasting reputation.
The true measure of a man is with the tape around the heart instead of the head.

Your HealthYou hear a lot about staying hydrated in the summer heat but in the winter? It is important to
drink an adequate amount of water year round. Drink up! Dehydration can drain your mind
and mood.
Feeling out of sorts but not sure why? You might be dehydrated. Two new studies found
even mild dehydration comes with big consequences: altered mood, impaired memory,
trouble concentrating, fatigue, headaches, anxiety. While the reasons for these symptoms are
unclear, researchers at the University of Connecticut Human Performance Laboratory noted
that dehydration causes changes in electrolyte balances in the blood as well as serotonin
levels in the brain, which can affect memory and mood. How to tell if you’re hydrated? Check
the color of your urine. “Anything darker than a pale, straw hue means you need to drink
more,” says study author Lawrence Armstrong, Ph.D.
Korey Richins (Corporate Headquarters) recently got
the opportunity to take his family to a Utah Jazz NBA
game. His boys Jarom age 11 and Elijah age 9 are
big fans. Jarom plays in the Jr. Jazz youth basketball
league. They love to watch all the games and of course
have their favorite players. They had only attended 1
game before and the seats were almost to the very top
of the arena. For this game though they had awesome
seats – center court, 12th row – what an experience!
They even got to hug “Bear” the always entertaining,
fun loving Jazz mascot.
SAFE WORKING PRACTICES PAY!The 2013 Safety Program is as Follows:
Taking it to zero lost-time accidents will be rewarded with a $25,000 drawing
consisting of one $10,000 winner and fifteen $1,000 winners!
Safety bingo will continue for all eligible employees.
Eligibility for the $25,000 drawing will be continuous full-time employment from 1/1/2013 through 12/31/2013 with no first-aid accidents or safety violations.
