l. SUMMARY

During the first ten (10) days or the period covered by this report the Third Battalion, Fifth Marinws occupied and defended Line JAMESTOWN in the Ohan~an area. 'G",'H" and "I' companies were in position on the ML!. All units or the MLR devoted considerable time improving defensive positions by constructing forward slope fighting bunkers. In addition aggressive reconnaissance patrols and ambushes were conducted on a continuing basis. Increasing incoming enemy fire restricted daylight work on the MLR and most or the work was accomplished during the hours or darkness. Logistical support improved considerable, Necessary construction items, sand bags, lumber, engineering tools, stakes, and wire were supplied as rapidly as possible. During this period one hot meal per day was served !rom thermo containers, to teed in small groups, on the MLR. This proved to be highly satisfactory and most desirable,

On 10 May 1~~2 the Third Battalion, Fifth Marines was relieved by the Firat Battalion, Seventh Marines on line. The Battalion displaced to a new camp site at BS977' and commenced its mission at the Iimpo Provisional Regiment as IPR Reserve. All unite- commenced formal training 1n accordance with the provisions of Fifth Marine Regiment Training Order 5-52 and First Marine Division Training Order 10-52. Preliminary plans were made to commence formal shore base amphibisus training and helicopter training in acoordanoe with the provisions or First Marine Division Training Order ll-52 and in preparation for an Amphibious training exercise tentatively scheduled tor the period 9-12 June 1~62. Daily surveillance patrols were dispatched in accordance with the mission assigned the Battalion as KPR reserve. All individual and organic weapons were teat fired and £eroed. A complete inventory or all individual and organic equipment was conducted during this period,

A large number of prostitutes were operating in the vicinity or the Camp. The Korean National Polioe were unable to round up the prostitutes beoause or interference by individual IMC's. This was rectified by detailing a marine with the National Police to prevent interferenoe by the IMC's. Sixty-five non-resident prostitutes were remeved from the area by the National Police,
