Self-confidence is the confidence or trust one has in oneself. Confidence comes with the knowledge and awareness that one possesses certain qualities and abilities to perform various tasks. A person with self-confidence is an optimist and succeeds in overcoming all obstacles.

Over-confidence is disastrous. Over- confidence is the outcome of pride. Whatever abilities we have, come from God. They are are his gifts to us. They are not of our own making, hence we turn out to be over-confidence. This is necessary to keep in mind that we should have reasonable confidece in our abilities.

Overconfidence is when a person 'believes' that he/she is right every single time and that there's nothing the others 'need' do, but follow him/her happily.

Let me quote an exampleSuppose i wrote exam very well.... if someone asks me how the exam was then if i say i will get 90% for sure...its confidence because you know how u wrote

But if i say i get top in the class or college..... then its over confidence because i dont know how the rest of the college wrote the exam. may be some one in the class is better student than me....

So knowing your abilities is confidence and thinking you are the only capable person is over confidence.

I believe being confident means knowing actually who you are, right from your strengths to your weaknesses, Being proud of his/her strengths and not ashamed of his/her weaknesses and ready to improve upon it.

On the other hand being over confident means just knowing the positive aspect about oneself and thus over estimation of their qualities. The biggest set back of being over confident is no chance of improvement as such a person can't find any fault in himself.
