Monday late afternoon to set a very interesting game between Cinque Terre and Polo Do, the winner likely to be the second qualifier to the East Coast Open, Sun-day at Greenwich. Cinque Terre is currently at 2-1 and Polo Do is 1-2. Cinque Terre and White Birch had a very close match Monday, not only on the scoreboard, which showed a battle from the second chuk-ker on, but also on the field as players marked each oth-er closely, White Birch win-ning in overtime 11-10. At first it looked as if White Birch would be in command. After allowing an early goal by Magoo LaPrida, White Birch scored three unanswered goals, two in a row by Aguerre (the

first from the field) and one by Chris Nevins, but Cinque Terre kept its opponent in check in the second and third chukkers, White Birch up 5-3 at halftime. The fourth chukker was penalty filled Cinque Terre tying at 7-7 at chukker’s end. In the fifth LaPrida raced towards goal and scored. Giving Cinque Terre

an 8-7 lead. The game was tied up again when Aguerre shot in a penalty 2. Cinque Terre took the 10-9 lead my mid 6th chuk-ker with a goal by LaPrida scoring from the field. Late sixth chukker Cinque Terre was called on a foul and a penalty 3 awarded to White Birch, tying the game at 10-all.

Early in overtime, Cinque Terrre had possession of the ball, but a high flying ball towards goal, curving left, missed the mark. White Birch was again in posses-sion in the knock-in, the ball sent ahead to Nevins scor-ing for White Birch’s extra chukker win 11-10. (Contributing notes by Pe-ter Herman)
