Dear Neighbors,

Say good-bye to winter and hello to summer. Get up, go outside and get active. Take a look through this guide to see what opportunities and events await you here in Doylestown Township.

Building a sense of Community… Parks are where lifetime friendships are formed, where the gap between generations is bridged, where people discover what they have in common. An outdoor concert, a program, new friends made on the ball fi eld, along a trail, the playground or at the dog park (coming soon). These are just a few of the ways in which parks provide places and spaces for people to connect in a shared environment… It Starts in Parks!

Details of events this summer are available in this issue or on our website at www.doylestownrec.com

Whatever you choose, we think you will be pleased to discover that the Parks and Recreation Department has a lot to offer for all ages and interests.

Changes and/or additions do occur and we may fi nd it necessary to make adjustments to information contained in the Program Guide. For the most information including schedule, changes, announcements, etc., please visit our website at www.doylestownrec.com.

Sincerely,

Karen A. Sweeney, CPRP, CPSI, CPPDirector of Parks & Recreation

Love your dog but please respect the rules. With the warmer weather now here, dog owners and their four-legged friends have begun to actively enjoy the parks. We remind all park users that not only must your dogs be leashed, but you are also are required to pick-up after them.

Township Ordinance 119-11.2 requires that dogs must be leashed in public and they are not allowed to run loose in public parks. If you’re looking for an off-leash area, you will soon be able to purchase an annual membership to the Doylestown Dog Park. We are anticipating a summer opening.

Additionally, the ordinance requires dog owners to pick-up their dog’s waste in all public parks and dispose of the waste properly. Dog waste can spread disease and it’s bad for the environment. Dog feces may contain various organisms and parasites such as E. coli, tapeworm, and roundworm. If not regularly cleaned up it can also seep into the water system so, it’s important for everyone to clean up after their canine friends.

Contact with the feces of a sick pet can also make your pets sick. Also, due to the high level of nitrogen in dog feces, it is not a good fertilizer. The best preventative measure against dog feces related disease is using a poop bag to clean up after your pet. “Mutt Mitt” dispensers are graciously placed in our parks for your convenience and everyone’s safety. We are highlighting this concern because it often disregarded and/or overlooked but can have a signifi cant impact on the health of our community - and our water.

Doylestown Township reminds all residents to keep your dogs on leash and “scoop the poop”!

Reliable Obedience ClassDoes your dog lose focus around other dogs and distractions? This class is designed for families with dogs not having any behavior problems, but need more reliability with their obedience commands. This class focuses on obedience commands your dog may already understand and/or an introduction to new obedience commands. Teach your dog to respond to your commands the fi rst time asked, respond during distractions and STAY in their commands during distractions. This class is designed for a maximum of ten dogs that are social around other dogs.
