From Th e Editors Well, it’s offi cial…Washington says the recession is offi cially over. Don’t you all feel better? All warm, fuzzy, and secure? We know we do!! NOT!!!!! We want to welcome our newest advertisers. The Strawberry Valley Blues Festival is taking place in June up in Strawberry. It’s a short trip from the Phoenix area up into the mountains to enjoy some excellent music. Sounds like a great getaway. We hope to see you there. Get more details on page 9. ABATE of AZ should be a familiar name to you all; but we realize that, unfortunately, it is not the case. ABATE is a Motorcyclists Rights Organization, dedicated to Awareness, Rights, and Education as it pertains to the motorcycling community. Read more on page 8, and please join and support your MRO. The time is here again to Rally in the Cool Pines with the Mountain Motor-cycle Association of AZ. These folks put a lot of work into this event, and we’ve had fun each time we’ve been there. See page 11 for more details. On the cover…That’s Logan of Logan’s Valley Motorcycles, showing off a Saxon Motorcycle during CycleFest. He recently became a Saxon dealer, so you can check out this line of American-built beauties at his store, located at 1440 West Main Street in Mesa. MAY is here again and that means it is Motorcycle Awareness Month. Please read on page 5 about a new project to help raise awareness about wrecks, and situations that riders fi nd themselves in. It is a Forum specifi cally for posting information about accidents. We hope that this can be a learning tool, to help increase rider awareness and prevent some accidents from happening as often. And to help balance such a serious addition to our features, we’ve also in-troduced a forum Just for Laughs; because everyone needs a break from the real world sometimes. Here you can kick back for a few, enjoy some laughs, and share some jokes with your fellow readers. We got word of a very cool fundraiser taking place right now. It’s called Vet Walking…. Nope, he’s not on a motorcycle – so some would ask why we are talk-ing about it. Well there is a huge number of motorcyclists who are Vets or have Vets in their family. So it was an easy call. Richard Hunsucker is a Marine Vet who is walking across America as a fundraiser for the DAV – Disabled American Vets. He left Jacksonville, FL on Veterans Day 2009 and expects to arrive in San Diego CA on Memorial Day 2010. His schedule has him in AriZona now {since April 13} until May 10. As I write this, he has passed through Apache Junction and Mesa. He is walking Highway 60, will pick up 72, then 95 to Parker where he will cross the border into Nevada. Follow this extraordinary individual at the VetWalking.org website; read his blog, send an email of support, visit him on the road, follow him on Twitter, and of course offer what donations you can to the cause. We have received some calls during this past month, asking what happened to the paper. Read all about it on page 13. We know it will take a bit of time to get used to our Online-only Editions. To help remember when the new edition is available, you can go to our online Subscriptions page and opt-in to our email list. We send out a note when the new edition is posted. Okay, you know we are not gonna close this column out without saying some-thing about the signing of SB 1070. “Well done!” to Governor Brewer for having the guts to stand up against what had to be some major opposition to her signing this. Since when is protecting our state and nation’s borders from illegal aliens a racist issue? It’s very easy for people who do not live here in AZ to speak on this topic, as if they should have a say-so. Don’t judge us. A majority of Arizonans, – those who are CITIZENS, that is - are IN FAVOR of SB1070. Our Governor is refl ecting the will of her constituents - something the Federal Government has NOT done. That is what she’s supposed to do. ‘Nuff said… at least for now. What do you think? Post your thoughts to our Forum. Let’s lighten this up… Bike Week may be over, but that was just the begin-ning of riding season. Check out the calendar and see what looks interesting. Be careful out there and have a good time. Keep Your Butts On Your Putts!

Saturday March 20 was the Grand Opening Party for Jugg’z Saloon, located at 851 S Arizona Avenue in Chandler. This is a new little biker bar that’s looking to put itself on the map. It’s the old Pecos Lounge, for those who are familiar with the area. We joined a LOT of people who came out to support Jugg’z owner Shelly in this new venture. We got there around 3:30 and the place was rockin’ with the Empty Pockets Band. During their perfor-mance, lead singer Marti Reeves of the No Regrets Band stepped in to front ‘Mustang Sally’, giving every-one a preview of the entertainment they could look forward to for the evening’s show. Shelly arranged for the food ven-dor “Sweet Jimmy” to set up outside; offering dogs, brats, burgers, and fi x-ings for a moderate $3 per plate. Dur-ing band breaks there were drawings for giveaways including hats, shirts,

beer signs, Bud merchandise, & more. This was a fun time and we wish Shelly the best of luck. Jugg’z Saloon is open Monday - Saturday 10a-2am and Sunday 10a-10pm. Be sure and stop in for a cold one and hang out for a while. There are pool tables, darts, and TVs for en-tertainment. There are different drink specials during the week and they have appetizers now. Here’s some of what’s happening at Jugg’z Saloon… Happy Hour is Monday - Friday from 3-7pm. There’s karaoke from 7-11pm on Monday nights and a pool tournament on Tuesday nights. Hang-ing out at Chandler’s downtown bike night on Tuesdays? Stop by Jugg’z ‘After Hours’ Party for live music by Todd Brewer from 7-10pm. Wednes-day means Bike Night / Ladies Night from 7pm to close and includes $3 jag-er bombers for the ladies. Enjoy live music on Friday and Saturday nights! Visit their website at www.jug-

gzsaloon.com for photos and more information. Be sure and click into their virtual tour from our Advertis-ers page. Need di-rections? Give ’em a call at 480-963-9804. Be sure and tell them you read about Jugg’z in AZ Rider.

photos of the memorial for the Carefree Highway Fallen Four

and their fellow riders, killed and injured by a drugged driver

March 25, 2010

The month of May is here, tradition-ally associated with the annual Motorcycle Awareness and Safety Campaign. Events will be hosted by various MROs around the country to help educate non-riding mo-torists about sharing the road with motor-cycles. We know that here at AriZona Rider we’ve always said that we like to focus on and cover the fun part of motorcycling. But it has become apparent lately that we all need to take a reality break. So we’ve set up on our website a

Wrecks & Accidents Forum. We’ve talked about doing something like this in the past, but necessity and tech-nology have joined to bring this idea back to the front burner. Due to the extreme in-crease in motorcycle accidents and deaths this year we feel that this feature is more necessary than ever. And Motorcycle Awareness Month seems like a very appro-priate time to launch it. Sadly, the motorcycling community has been hard-hit recently. This past month has been perhaps the worst on record for motorcycling-related accidents and deaths in AriZona. In this Forum, we will try and keep readers updated when we learn of accidents involving motorcyclists. If you learn of one, feel free to post. If you do not have all the details, that is all right. We will research and post additional information as it becomes available. We want to start sharing news of killed /injured riders and some of the circumstanc-es, to help make riders become more aware of the number of wrecks happening and the type of situations riders fi nd themselves in. Especially for the newer riders, they need to see, in real-life terms, what can happen. For example, we’ve just learned of two bikes traveling in opposite directions side-swiping each other at the center line going around a curve… one rider was seriously injured as his foot hit the crash bar of the other bike. One of the pilots did not have a motorcycle license. It is our hope that information like this will reinforce to riders necessary issues such as the importance of Rider Training,

were utterly unavoidable, others may have been needless. For example, Sandy Stough was killed when she hit a truck as she was leaving the Billet Bar in Scottsdale. While the driver was cited for Failure to Yield on a left turn, the police report also indi-cates that Ms. Stough was impaired. Was she over-served at the Billet? Did alcohol affect her judgment? These questions are not here to disrespect Ms. Stough. We offer our sincere condolences to her family and friends for their loss. The questions are be-ing asked as a reminder to all of us. To ex-amine our limits, and to watch out for our friends as we hope they are watching out for us. In addition, it has been a topic of more than one discussion that motorcycling-re-lated events have become more & more heavily sponsored by alcohol companies. That’s where the money is, so that’s where the promoters go for fi nancial backing. But at the same time, it sends a dangerous, mixed message about drinking and riding. This topic has been added to our Forum, if you’d like to say something about it. We also cannot emphasize enough the importance of taking a Rider Course. After putting all the money into buying a bike, not the mention the accessories and clothes you know you’re gonna buy to go with it…. Doesn’t it make sense to spend a little more and learn how to ride safely? For around $300 you can take a class and collect a good foundation of skills from experienced riding coaches. Those skills could save your life, perhaps as you’re going around a tight curve while exploring some back road twisties. But of course, what we can’t control is the other guy. There’s little you can do in some situations. You can’t escape from a drugged out driver barreling down on you in a dump truck when you’re stopped at a light and have cars stopped in front of you. You can’t get away from an ignorant cager that pulls a left in front of you so close that there’s no room for skid marks. So, please ride aware. There are a lot of cagers out there who are not aware and do not see us.

MAY means Motorcycle Awareness and You

the value of a Motorcycle Endorsement, knowing and accepting Personal Limits in regard to impairment, experience, speed, and the like, and the need to monitor ones self and friends regarding drinking and rid-ing. Our objective is for this project to help to prevent some of these accidents from happening. With summer coming on, fl atlanders must also remember to pay attention to signs of heat stress and dehydration as tem-peratures rise. Those infl uences can defi -nitely affect awareness and reaction time in a situation. Just as some of the recent collisions

Acme Cycle has been serving the motorcycling community since 1994. This is a full service ‘mom & pop’ shop, owned and operated by John & Mary Bowman. It is located at 7643 North 69th Avenue in Glendale, AZ. They are open Monday – Friday, 9-5. You can make an appointment by calling 623-915-4999. Soon you’ll be able to visit Acme on the web at www.acmecyclegarage.com. Watch for monthly specials! John is Acme’s lead mechanic and has 40+ years of wrenching experience to his name, along with some considerable credentials. He was the Service Manager for Glendale Harley-Davidson before the store moved to Peoria and became Arrowhead. He also taught at MMI in Phoenix, the Motorcycle Me-chanics Institute, for three years; specializing in late model HDs. He’s completed more HD University classes - and acquired the various certifi cations that go with them, than he can count. John started out as an auto mechanic. In 1969 he started working on his own Harley & those of his friends. In 1989 he decided he wanted to work on bikes instead of cars, so he went to MMI. From there he got a job at Glendale HD and worked his way up to Service Manager. Acme Cycle Garage works on all American V-Twins. Acme is a full service shop, and includes a well-equipped machine shop. They have an HD Scanalyzer in-house, for plug-in diagnostics on late model bikes. They offer TwinCam Gear Drive Conversions. They fea-ture Lucas Oil, K&N Oil and Air Filters, Avon and Dunlop Tires. In addition to Harley parts they also carry after-market brands such as Bikers Choice, Kuryakyn, Custom Chrome, Mustang, and S&S.

We know that the term ‘old school’ is thrown around a lot these days, often in the wrong places. Acme is truly an old school shop, not a parts chang-ing house. Here you are working with actual mechan-ics. They’re very emphatic about not selling you parts you don’t need. For example, if you want to increase horsepower, you’re not going to buy a new set of heads. They’ll work the parts you’ve got… like in the old days. While last visiting Acme, we had a chance to look at some cre-ative examples of in-house custom metal fabrication – both structural and cosmetic. A testimony to John’s abil-ity as a mechanic and manner as a person is that customers from the Glendale HD days followed John to Acme because they were so happy with his work. John is a righteous and tal-

ented mechanic whose goal is to do a good job for you at a fair price. You should check out what Acme Cycle Garage can do for you. Give them a call at 623-915-4999. Let them know you read about Acme in AZ Rider Motorcycle News.

Advertiser Review: Acme Cycle Garage

When I’m an old lady, I’ll live with each kid, And bring so much happiness...just as they did. I want to pay back all the joy they’ve provided. Returning each deed! Oh, they’ll be so excited!

When I’m an old lady and live with my kids I’ll write on the wall with reds, whites and blues, And I’ll bounce on the furniture...wearing my shoes. I’ll drink from the carton and then leave it out. I’ll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they’ll shout!

When I’m an old lady and live with my kids And they’re on the phone and just out of reach, I’ll get into things like sugar and bleach. Oh, they’ll snap their fi ngers and then shake their head,

When I’m an old lady and live with my kids When they cook dinner and call me to eat, I’ll not eat my green beans or salad or meat, I’ll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table, And when they get angry...I’ll run....if I’m able!

When I’m an old lady and live with my kidsI’ll sit close to the TV, through the channels I’ll click, I’ll cross both eyes just to see if they stick. I’ll take off my socks and throw one away, And play in the mud ‘til the end of the day!

When I’m an old lady and live with my kids Later in bed, I’ll lay back and sigh, I’ll thank God in prayer and then close my eyes. My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping, And say with a groan, ‘She’s so sweet when she’s sleeping!’

Backstage Bash Chester’s Backstage Bash IV was held April 9th & 10th at Chester’s Harley-Davidson, 922 S Country Club in Mesa, on the opening weekend of AZ Bike Week. It was beautiful weather for being out… a nice preview to what the week ahead would have to offer. Chester’s definitely has one hell of a set up there for putting on a party. If you haven’t been to the Chester’s venue for a party before, you ought to check it out sometime. There were more than a dozen vendors set up, and that’s before count-ing the food booths. A special VIP area offered an exclusive food purveyor and bar, tables & chairs instead of picnic benches, and closer stage access. On Friday night the band ‘Men Without Shame’ opened for Jackyl. Cadillac Angels were on the bill to open for Marshall Tucker Band on Saturday night. It can be said that, in talking to attendees afterwards, some of the performers were enjoyed more than others. Activities included an impromptu tattoo competition on Friday night, to fill in time between bands. Ten contestants showed off their ink for prizes. Congratu-lations to Herb and Andrea as the winners. Saturday night’s semi-finals for the Ms AZ Bike Week competition moved Denise, Terry, and Jamie to Wednesday’s finals. And of course while everything was going on outside, there were lots of people indoors shopping and looking at the bikes. This was a good launch to Bike Week. The event was well attended and people looked like they were having fun.

Torch Ride When we got to Chester’s on Saturday morning April 17 for the 11th an-nual Torch Ride for Special Olympics, bikes were coming in from all directions. While it was a chilly morning ride into town, that changed quickly. Volunteers were getting these bikes pulled into the staging area TIGHT. It was aptly described as butt hole tight. And when you are trying to stage more than 2000 motorcycles, you’d better have a system. From traffic control, to park-ing, to registration, to coffee & breakfast, there were well-marked volunteers directing activities. There appeared to be plenty of food, water, and portajons. There was entertainment by Dok & Gal as everyone came in. Included in regis-tration was a pancake breakfast, of which many were partaking. We indulged in some coffee & ‘Krispy Kreme’ and got to the task of taking pictures. Before heading out to the bikes, an announcement was made from the stage to fill everyone in on the route. Then the 50/50 drawing was announced. Con-gratulations to the winner, taking home $588; a nice way to start the day. The big trick of the morning was finding your scoot in a dense ocean of chrome. One fellow had selected our custom paint job as his landmark to find his bike. Glad we could help. There were new & old bikes, of all makes and models. The bikes were bro-ken up into groups of 500. The route took us out 87 to Shea Blvd in Fountain Hills, then north on Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd before making the sweep into WestWorld. It’s a scenic desert ride; enjoyable whether you’ve taken it once or many times. This was a boots up all the way, escorted ride, with DPS motor cops putting on extra miles. They would complete a segment of the escort then race back toward Chester’s to pick up another group of bikes. The only thing that could be counted as a negative about the event was that the riders in the last groups to depart were getting really hot waiting in the staging area. Well, even those concerns are already being discussed and allowed for, for next year. Who could have anticipated a 95° morning in April? As things turned out, riders in the later groups could have held off before going out to their bikes; and hang out in the shaded areas for a while. Final totals came in at more than 2400 bikes, nearly 3000 participants, and $55,325 raised for Special Olympics Arizona. Something important to note here is that this money is the actual donation to the cause, not the ‘net proceeds’ of the event. Special Olympics received 100% of the money from your entry fee. What you got for your donation… ride pin, breakfast, and entry into CycleFest - including the George Thorogood concert, were all paid for by Chester’s Harley Davidson, as part of their contribution to Special Olympics. Well done to Chester’s Harley-Davidson. The Torch Ride was quite an event to be a part of. We’re glad we could be there. Kudos to all involved in making it a success.

It was a beautiful ride Saturday March 27th, and this old soldier had another opportunity to ride with a “Band of Brothers”. I made some new friends that I know will last a lifetime. Thanks Brothers for all you’ve done. Everyone gathered at Evolution Custom Motorcycles 617 S McClintock Dr in Tempe. This fundraiser to support the Order of the Silver Rose was hosted by Buffalo Rick and the Rid-ersUSA group. I’ve ridden with them before, so I got to see old friends again. There were about 55 riders there, all aware of what had happened earlier in the week on Carefree Highway, when

4 riders died in a terrible wreck. That crash and loss were incorporated in the Prayers that were said before every-one took off this day. We tested our skills throwing darts at a board full of playing cards for the Poker Run, and off we went to Against the Wind, on Scottsdale Rd. next to the Billet Bar. The next stop was Hideaway Bar, where I learned about a Charity Benefi t Fund for the fallen Riders at the Roadrunner Saloon in New River. From Cave Creek we went to Renegade Classics, a Biker Outlet store on Cac-tus in Phoenix. The fi nal stop was American Legion Post 2, at 2125 S Industrial Park Ave. in Tempe. Many of the riders did not complete the run. That was the fi rst weekend after the Carefree Highway crash and a memorial event was taking place. A number of them made their donation to the Agent Orange Ride then went to New River to pay their respects & offer support.

The few remaining riders were treated to all the door prizes, and almost everyone there received some-thing. The 50/50 and High Hand were $25 each and both won by the same gal, who got away before I could get her name. It was a fun day all-in-all, and I met with some old “Nammie Vets”, Bill, Dave, Lee, Jimmy J., & Joe, plus 2 Iraqi Vets. We had a blast together. Some-times that Camaraderie of being there never dies…. The Order of the Silver Rose is a 501(c)3 non-profi t providing support and recognition to victims of agent orange exposure, both living and deceased. Viet Nam Veterans affected by agent orange dioxin exposure have been ignored and denied both treat-ment and recognition by our government for their sacrifi ces. There is NO Purple Heart for a wound or death from agent orange, because it was considered a chemical, not a weapon. Also, a Viet Nam Vet who dies from agent orange exposure is not honored on the Viet Nam Memorial Wall. So, these veterans are honored with the Silver Rose Medal and certifi cate. The OSR also provides resources and information on the latest policies regarding agent orange and PTSD. Visit the Order of the Silver Rose website at

www.silverrose.info for more information. Thanks y’all, remember to Ride Hard, Be Safe, Uhrah. Later........

Sonny Barger’s Anniversary Party to commemorate 53 years with the Hell’s Angels MC was awesome. The Cave Creek Crew hosted the celebration on Sunday April 18 at the Buffalo Chip Saloon in Cave Creek. While some went straight to the end party at the Chip, others gathered at the Steel Horse Saloon in Phoenix to roll with the pack. My estimation is that somewhere around 200 – 300+ bikes ended up at the Chip. The weather was great for the ride out and from what I hear everyone arrived without incident. Who could ask for more -- good people, good weather, good eats, a rockin’ band, and a damn good reason to party! This year the band was Brotherhood of Blues featuring Sara Styles. The food was provided by the Buffalo Chip and was very tasty. You could see and feel that everyone was having a great time There were so many people from different clubs, and representing from near and far, that I couldn’t even begin to name them all. I had pleasure of meeting Sonny’s sister as well as some of the cast from ‘Sons of Anarchy’. All in all it was great day of celebrating, seeing old friends, and meeting new ones. I know we all look forward to next year’s party. Happy Anniversary Sonny and many more!

If you can afford it, do it... Can you afford not too???

Some say this is the best time to buy real estate since The Great Depression... I know that during the span of my career, I have never seen a better opportunity. Whether you’re looking to buy a home for yourself or as an investment, prices are fantastic! After a horrific economy and a drastic

drop in home prices, Arizona economic indicators say we may have finally reached rock bottom. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to take advantage of a weak market. If you want a professional, honest, hardworking Realtor who has knowledge of the market and has represented buyers, sellers and investors for more than 10 years; someone who, like yourself, understands, enjoys, and lives the the biker lifestyle, then give me a call. I would love to help you make your dreams a reality. I hope to hear from you!

LOBBYIST UPDATE:

HB2033 - Title- emissions; motorcycles; area A;

- legislation to extend the July 2010 dead-line for the EPA to complete their approval process to eliminate motorcycle emissions in Maricopa County, has passed through the State House and Senate without a hitch, and was signed by the Governor 04/14/10. This ONLY extends the date to give the EPA more time to approve the process before it becomes law in Arizona. We are hop-ing that this entire process will be over and done with by the end of 2010.

SB1023 - Title - motor vehicle accidents; death;

injury; - Right Of Way; ADDS 3 categories, pertaining to ‘merging’, ‘improper lane change’ and ‘pulling out from intersections’, to the ex-isting ROW violation categories in 3 stat-utes. ADDS that upon a Second or Subse-quent Violation of various ROW’s within a 36 month period, causing Serious Physical Injury or Death, that the court “SHALL” not “MAY” suspend the violators license for 90/180 days. ADDS a Classification of driver, refer-ring to the driver that ‘Does NOT have a valid License or Endorsement’, which is currently not addressed. This legislation has also passed through the Senate and the House and is now wait-ing for the signature of the Governor.

Let’s talk for a minute about MEMBERSHIP!!!!!

What is a ‘Member’? I like one of Webster’s definitions:

“A Distinct Part Of A Whole”Let’s pretend that ABATE of Arizona Inc.,

is the Whole!!

Some riders shy away from becoming a distinct part of the whole. Many times people shy away from anything that might

Motorcycle Politics 101mean that they have to commit to something. Commitment to a Motorcycle Rights Organization (MRO), Hmmmm now there’s an idea. Questions - “Do you want to be able to choose if you wear a helmet or not? Do you want to eliminate emissions on that mo-torcycle? Do you want to have Freedom of Choice? Do you want to keep on riding FREE?” For the price of a case of beer and a small bottle of Jack, you can join an MRO and fight for those rights. The more you as a mem-ber “commit”, the more you as a member, want to. The more you as a member “commit”, the more you as a member enjoy the re-sults of your efforts. So what may start out, in some cases, as “grass roots”, which according to Web-ster is you as ‘the common person being the basic source of support for a movement’ could end up to be one of the best ‘memberships’ you’ve ever signed up for. SO DO THAT – GO TO

www.abateofaz.org and sign up today!!! Become part of something bigger than your-self, become “A Distinct Part Of The Whole”.

12 AZ RiderMay 2010 AstrologyBy Kathi CalahanProfessional Astrologer & Psychic, www.AmericanLovePsychic.com

This month awakens all the senses and happy times are bound to follow. Enjoy this sensual time of

year with someone special.

ARIES: The rutting ram and lamb are in high gear this month for some sensual time together. There is a red fl ag however for speeding and, hard as it may be, think before you leap. Oh never mind, you’re in rutting season. That’s not going to happen. Lucky Numbers 2, 29, 28, 56, 12, 8

TAURUS: Body painting of the physical kind is a sensual alternative to painting the putt this month. Your artistic nature comes out in full stride and you may even fi nd yourself body painting with birthday cake after blowing out the candles. Happy birthday to all you sexy Taurus bulls. Lucky Numbers 5, 41, 51, 28, 17, 16

GEMINI: You like fi xing up your friends and will play a big part in helping Cupid this month. The one thing you will learn, however, is that there’s more to love than sensuality. It takes effort and attention; much like maintaining your ride. Lucky Numbers 40, 29, 26, 44, 1, 8

CANCER: Dental work saves the day as your sweet-ie is especially sensitive this month to your mouth. You’ll also fi nd that a stop smoking problem is in the works for you or someone you care about. Get out & ride more, it will take your mind off the withdrawals. Lucky Numbers 41, 4, 18, 9, 2, 3

LEO: Where the **** did all those nails come from? Did a framing truck drop a load in front of your bike? Be careful this month of fl at tires. You’ll be tempted to ride through the construction zone, but either re-ally slow down & take a good look or take a detour. Lucky Numbers 31, 35, 28, 37, 10, 40

VIRGO: Much like the sign of Cancer, your taste buds are activated this month and you’ll fi nd time spent hand feeding each other to be sensual time to-gether. Watch the stomach when eating at a run as the food does not sit well with you. Bring your own snacks instead. Lucky Numbers 2, 26, 30, 36, 15, 4

LIBRA: Art once again becomes a big part of your life this month. It may be in designing something concerning rides or clothing, but you’ll begin to see the bigger picture of an artistic pathway opening up this year for you. Go for it – art makes you feel good and you have a natural talent for it. Lucky Numbers 41, 51, 22, 6, 8, 9

SCORPIO: It’s not a solution to stay quiet when there’s an upset. People do not want to take the time to read your mind, so hang out with a Libra, learn some diplomacy and get it off your chest. Holding your emotions in is counterproductive to problem solving this month and every month. Lucky Numbers 50, 57, 22, 21, 19, 16

SAGITTARIUS: A big love affair with your bike this month eliminates loneliness. You’ll fi nd many quick rides, not necessarily short ones, the order of the day. “Life is short and I’m late!” Caution, White Rabbit, the speed limit was set for the likes of you. Lucky Numbers 5, 25, 19, 29, 17, 56

CAPRICORN: Quality bike, quality food, quality love are all the order of the day. Your sweet sense of humor is welcome by all and that spring cleaning you wanted to do on your bike is just around the cor-ner. You set the standard for excellence and we love you. Lucky Numbers 50, 28, 8, 17, 26, 11

AQUARIUS: A midnight ride listening to THE PRAYER CYCLE – A CHORAL SUMPHONY IN 9 MOVEMENTS by Allanis Morissette bridges the spiritual gap between the road and the heavens. You, of all signs, search for the meaning of life, and music opens the way to the unexplained. Lucky Numbers 51, 27, 30, 3, 44, 21

PISCES: Your fi rst response may be, “No ******* way!” but hear me out. This would be a very sensual month for the two of you to go get couples massage. Those hard tails need a little attention and it’s not gonna kill ya. Gawan! Do it! Lucky Numbers 23, 25, 19, 9, 7, 50

From Military To Civilian – A Seamless TransitionWhen members of the Armed Forces of the United States fi nish at least one year

of their tour of deployment they need to enroll in the Veterans Administration (VA) program to obtain any VA Health Benefi ts they may be entitled to receive.

Service members need to enroll PROMPTLY and do it NOW by following these steps:

• Obtain a copy of your service medical records prior to discharge. Do not take any shortcuts when separating and do this immediately. Any idea of hur-rying to get home may cost you time and money should you require VA Healthcare at any time in the future. • A veteran has two years, after separation, to apply for medical conditions that are a result of their service in the military. After two years the process be-comes more diffi cult.• If you require medical assistance from the VA after separation/dis-charge, bring with you a copy of your medical records, a copy of your DD-214, and two forms of picture identifi cation.• Any injury or illness incurred while serving on active duty as a regular, reservist, or Federalized member of the National Guard needs to be noted in your medical records.• Enroll in the VA IMMEDIATELY. Do Not Procrastinate!! Know your rights and your responsibilities. If you are not sure, ASK-ASK-ASK-ASK-ASK!!! Ensure that your transition is smooth. Know what you need to do, and DO IT! • Join a veterans service organization - American Legion, DAV, Rolling Thunder®, VFW, AMVETS, etc.

IT’S YOUR DUTY TO DO SO!

13AZ Rider

N O T I C E TO ALL AZ RIDER READERS Wow!! Everybody, it seems that the future is here. It’s funny in a way how and what really dictates this. In this case, technology, and most of all, the sucking economy are each having an effect on all businesses and the direction they are having to take. In our case, we feel we are taking the next step into the future. Just a little history here... Back in January 2005, we started putting AZ Rider in its entirety on our website each month for the whole world to read. It was a very popular move. In the western half of the nation, we were the fi rst motorcycle publication to do this. Maybe the whole nation, but I don’t know that for sure. By the end of this next decade I suspect you will see hardly any print material at all. It will be all internet in one way or another. If you remember Star Trek, you’ll recall that there wasn’t one piece of paper anywhere. Well, that’s where we’re headed. We’re not quite there yet, but we’re moving very fast in that direction. This brings me back around to the new AZ Rider program. We will be publishing twelve monthly editions of AZ Rider; a new one each month. There will be six print editions, one every other month, and twelve online editions – because with every print edition of course automatically comes an online edition. This edition, May, will be print and online; June will be online only, July is print and online, August is online only, and so on. This economy has drastically affected everyone. Motorcycling publications all across America are getting very skinny because it’s getting harder for businesses to afford advertising. Our new program allows businesses to adver-tise larger than before with a lot less monthly outlay of cash. History has proven that those who have been able to advertise during bad economic times are more likely to survive. AZ Rider can now help businesses do just that. In January 2005 when we put the full AZ Rider edition on our website, we knew this day would come. We just had no idea when and exactly why. Just as we do not know when we will go to all website and have no print editions. It may be 5 or 6 or 8 or more years, or only three. At this time we don’t know. We just know that it is likely to happen eventually. Technology will be the biggest fac- tor, with carbon foot-print being a close second. I want to mention one short little thing about carbon foot-print, then I’ll move on. The United States has 5% of the world’s population, uses 25% of the world’s resources, and emits 30% of the world’s pollution. With China and In- dia developing as quickly as they are, there are simply not enough resourc- es in the world for us to continue at that rate for much longer. At the current rate, we will have a 95% dead planet within 100 years. Hence, concerns about carbon footprint. With that being said, let’s get back to the more fun things. We’ve worked hard to keep our website as friendly and easy to navigate as we can. And from the feedback we get from everyone, we have achieved that. On page 16 you can read about all the features we have to offer. You can even go online and subscribe to our email list to get a reminder when the new edition is posted. What’s exciting and I’m busting at the seams to tell you about is what’s coming. But I can’t because we want to be the fi rst motorcycling publication to do it. So just stay tuned and watch all the new fun features come alive. Don’t get us wrong, we still love our print editions. In October 2009 we upgraded our paper and went full color from cover to cover. And we plan to keep it that way. Our distribution will also continue to be the most thorough in AriZona. Okay, so let’s sum this up. AZ Rider is still producing twelve brand new editions each year; one per month. There will be twelve online editions, with six of them also being available in print. We’ve included a chart below, so you can see the schedule. Welcome to the future.

Saturday April 3… This year, like last year – was so much fun. Evil Twin Custom Cycle’s owner, Robert can re-ally throw a party. This year’s annual Customer Appreciation Party featured pool tables, a bikini Bike Wash with models from Babes Cabaret, free food, drinks and FREE Beer, vendors, a snake petting zoo, oodles of fantastic raffl e prizes, and great music by the band “Rock Land”. Robert’s staff also came up the ingenious idea of keeping track of the raffl es and raffl e tickets. A lot of people don’t buy raffl e tickets, because they aren’t going to stay all day. And some people stay to enjoy the free beer and lose track of their tickets. Robert’s staff came to the rescue. Over 300 participants signed in (your name, address, & phone number) and bought their tickets. There was a number next to your name

and Dynamo Deano wrote that number on the back of your hand (or wherever you wanted your number put) and then he wrote that number on the back of all of your raffl e tickets. That way you didn’t have to keep track of all your pesky raffl e tickets and could drink in peace. And if you left early, you got a call the next work day and let you know what else you’d won. That was a fabulous idea. I arrived at Evil Twin, located at 2534 W. Broad-

way Rd in Mesa, after 1pm and the party was in full swing. I looked over the crowd of people and the spotted the most unusual sun glasses (The Loners say the design means “Press 1 for English”). I moved in closer and discovered the sun glasses were worn by my friend Critter (ALR, Post 2). I should’ve guessed, because Critter is always wearing the most unique clothing or jewelry. She’ll wear virtually anything that will make someone giggle. We traded greetings and then I moved on to take pictures of the crowd. Robert had long time friends Don Young and Johnny Haynes (on guitar) come up and play during a band break. Robert, Don, and Johnny played in an

earlier band about 20 years ago called the “No Hobo Band”. Pretty soon some of Rock Land’s band members joined in and an impromptu jam ses-sion blossomed into a festive concert. It was awesome! Robert said over 700 people stopped by. He said they went through 7 kegs of beer in 5 hours! Between the Raf-fl es and the 50/50, they raised more than $4200 for the Children’s Pediat-ric Brain Cancer Foundation. Robert would like to thank everyone who at-tended this year.

Enjoy Life ..... I am - Lady Jewells In addition, Robert would like you

to know that Every Tuesday – EVIL TWIN Hosts Bike Nite for our loyal party go’ers (and their friends) @ Long Wong’s at the old FIRE House 1639 East Apache Boulevard in

TEMPE starting at 5pm. Activities include Drink and Food Specials, including their infamous wings! Raffl es and giveaways, Door Prizes,

50/50, bike games, LIVE music, Comedy Hour, and Vendors!!! FMI: Phone 480-967-0252‎
