About this DocumentPurposeThis document provides an overview of Maintenance Optimizer and refers you to the requireddetailed documentation.

The Maintenance Optimizer in SAP Solution Manager guides you through the procedure forplanning and downloading SAP support packages and patches for your systems. Allcorrective software packages, including Support Packages (Stacks) for SAP NetWeaver2004s and subsequent versions, as well as all applications which are based on this software(including SAP Business Suite 2005), released after April 2, 2007, will be availableexclusively through the Maintenance Optimizer in SAP Solution Manager.

ConfigurationThe following table is a step-by-step description for transaction SPRO SAP Reference IMG

SAP Solution Manger Implementation Guide SAP Solution Manager Configuration Basic Settings. Follow the IMG documentation of each step listed.

Following these steps you only configure the Maintenance Optimizer.You do not configure any other functionality for SAP Solution Manager. If youintend to use further SAP Solution Manager Scenarios, such as EarlyWatchAlert or Diagnostics, use the guided procedure for automatic basic settingsconfiguration using transaction SOLMAN_SETUP. For a Scenario description,

5 Assign S-User Basic Settings Connection to SAP Assign S-User for SAPSupport Portal Functionality

If you do not maintain the S-Usercorrectly, the following errormessage appears in theapplication: No S-User isassigned to your user.

If you have more than one SAPcustomer number, you have toassign the correct S-user to thecustomer numbers (see IMGdocumentation Step 4).

If you already use an SLD in yoursystem landscape, we recommendconnecting the SLD (see IMGpath).

If you do not use an SLD, performthe necessary steps for individualsystems manually by choosingtransaction SMSY chooseCreate New System with Assistantin the context menu of Systems inthe hierarchical tree on the left(only for ABAP-based maininstances). Follow the steps in thewizard (you do not need togenerate RFC connections, butyou must assign logicalcomponents).

7 Create Solutionand AssignLogicalComponent

If you have maintained yoursystem landscape manually, youonly have to perform the IMGactivity Define a Solution.

You have now configured SAP Solution Manager Maintenance Optimzer.

Using the Maintenance OptimizerTo use the Maintenance Optimizer, call transaction Solution_Manager <your solution>

Operations Change Management Maintenance Optimizer Create NewMaintenance Transaction. Follow the steps in the guided procedure.

If you receive the error message You are not authorized to perform theactivity selected last, check step 8.

If you receive the error message No S-User is assigned to your user, check step5. Always log on to the SAP Support Portal with the same S-User which is assigned to yourSolution Manager user.

You can also access the Maintenance Optimizer via the Change Management work center. Inthis case you have to configure the work center functionality (transaction SPRO SAPReference IMG SAP Solution Manger Implementation Guide SAP Solution Manager Scenario-Specific Settings Change Control Setup Work Center for Change RequestManagement).
