Needs Your Help
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on
your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy
who'll decide where to go." (Dr. Seuss)
Senior Information We are looking forward to a beautiful graduation at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum on May 31
st,
and we know that you are excited about your big day. There are a number of points that are key
to making your graduation the DIGNIFIED and happy event that you deserve. Our goal is to make
this a time of respectful celebration so that everyone may have his or her individual moment to be
recognized.
You must attend all three graduation practices – the roll will be checked. NO EXCEPTIONS! If you
are not in attendance at each practice for the entire time, you will NOT be allowed to take part in
graduation. Mrs. Hilton is the only one who can excuse any absences from practice. Appropriate
school dress is expected, and you must wear your school ID. No visitors are permitted at practice,
including children.
We will give out many important items during practice on May 24th. You must have your school
ID to receive these.
Practice will last as long as necessary. It all depends on you. If we get cooperation from the Senior
Class, we can be finished by about 11:00 at Hanna. Another school follows us at Littlejohn on
Wednesday the 29th, so we must be out on time. Being tardy to practice will just prolong the
length of practice for the others. Having to go to work is not an acceptable excuse to leave
practice early!
Some of you will have to clear obligations with various teachers before you can get your diploma.
Names of those who have outstanding fees will be called out each day of practice. If you do not
clear all obligations by Wednesday, May 29th at 8:15 AM, your diploma will be removed from
your diploma cover and held in the office until all monies are paid. There will be long lines at that
time, so clear your fees EARLY! Also, don’t forget that we have practice on May 29th, NO
PRACTICE on the 30th, and GRADUATION on the 31
st.
GRADUATION – May 31st
Graduation ceremonies begin at 3:30 PM - whether or not you and/or your guests are there! For
graduation, all Seniors need to report to the ballroom area of the South Colonnade of Littlejohn
Coliseum NO LATER THAN 2:00! Traffic will be very congested (there is a baseball tournament at
Clemson that day), so you need to plan to ARRIVE EARLY. Be sure to bring your cap, gown, and
tassel. You should be dressed appropriately for graduation. If you choose to dress inappropriately,
you will not be allowed to march, and you will have to pick up your diploma at the school on
Monday, June 3rd. Appropriate dress is:
Men – dark trousers (navy or black) ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS; dark dress shoes,
dark socks, white shirts, dark necktie or bowtie, cap, gown, tassel
Women – black dresses or black dress pants and black blouse, black low-heeled
shoes, cap, gown, and tassel. Absolutely no flip-flops of any kind!
As we will practice, graduates will enter through the tunnel on the floor of the Coliseum in two
lines. Remember that if you are in the right line, you line up in regular numerical order (lowest to
highest, i.e. 1-15) for each row. If you are in the LEFT LINE, you should line up HIGHEST TO
LOWEST (i.e. 30-16) for each row before you enter. At the end of the ceremony, Junior Marshals
will lead you out, starting with the first row, just as they did at the Awards Night.
***Please let your family and friends know that it is our desire that the graduation ceremony be
one that is dignified and appropriate as we honor our seniors. We respectfully request that those
who are invited to this ceremony refrain from outbursts, use of noisemakers, and any other
activities that may disrupt the ceremony. Applause is the only appropriate display for guests.
Crafts Photography will be taking photographs of those who purchase the service ahead of time.
Flyers will be given out at practice.
Creative Video will also be taping the entire graduation ceremony. They will sell these videos for
$20. You should pre-order if you want a video. Order forms will be available during this Senior
Meeting and at the Civic Center the day of graduation.

Furman Band and Orchestra Camps
Furman still has some openings for their Band and Orchestra camps being held from June
9-14. They are in need of double reeds, clarinets, horns, trombones, and percussion
students. They are accepting applications through this week. The online link for this
summer program is https://app.furman.edu/BandOrchestraCamp/ or you may contact
Les Hicken at [email protected].
Warning about Bus Stops
Please be aware… two students had a man try to pick them up while they were waiting
at an Anderson 5 bus stop this morning. The bus stop location was Greenland /
Greenleaf in the Greenbriar subdivision near Robert Anderson Middle School. They
described the man as a white male in his forties driving a silver 4-door pick-up with dark
tinted windows, and the person was described as a black male probably in his 40s with a
closely shaven head. The incident occurred around 6:35 this am. The man drove past
the children twice, once stopping to ask if the girl wanted to ride. She ran back into her
house but didn’t tell her parents. She returned to the bus stop when she saw another
student there. Other schools/students should be vigilant in case there is a reoccurrence.
Bus for Littlejohn Graduation Practice
The bus transporting the seniors to Clemson on 5/29/13 for practice will be leaving at
7:30 am as per Katelyn Davis.
Drennan Still Receiving Honors/Awards
Hanna Senior Midfielder Chelsea Drennan added to her already impressive list of
accolades when, earlier today, she was named the Gatorade South Carolina Soccer Player
of the Year. Minutes later she was named the South Carolina Coaches Association for
Women’s Sports Player of the Year, an honor she is receiving for the third time.
In all, over the past four years, Chelsea has been honored with the following:
All Region 1-4A – 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013
All State – 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013
4A State Championship Game MVP – 2012
SCCAWS Player of the Year – 2011, 2012, 2013
Gatorade SC Player of the Year – 2013
National Soccer Coaches Association of America All American – 2012 (2013 TBA)
All Underclassmen Should Return Blue
Sheets
This Friday, May 24, all underclassmen should return the blue forms that contain the
class schedule selected in student IGP meetings for next year’s classes. Students and
parents are asked to review the selection of classes. Keep in mind that class assignments
will be based on a variety of factors, such as the demand for particular classes, the time
frame in which classes are offered, the classes each student is required to take for
graduation/college entrance, and prerequisite grade requirements.
Once these forms are reviewed, the student should return the form to his/her first block
“B” day teacher. The deadline is Friday, May 24, 2013. If you or your child would like
to make changes to this class schedule, you should mark through the classes you no
longer want and neatly write the new classes beside it. Update the contact information
on the sheet if it is not correct. Not all changes will be approved. If you do not make
changes and/or fail to turn this sheet back in, it will be assumed that the class schedule is
correct. Sheets should be returned whether or not you make changes. The classes
requested are not guaranteed because of possible conflicts and other scenarios that can
affect the schedule. Once final schedules are created this summer and the appropriate
faculty hired, it will not be possible to make changes. This is your opportunity to make
any needed changes. Personal preferences cannot be accommodated – requesting certain
teachers, selecting certain lunch periods, etc.
Turner Receives Merit Scholarship for
Furman
Matthew D. Turner is being offered a college-sponsored National Merit Furman
University Scholarship. About 200 colleges and universities currently underwrite
approximately 4,800 National Merit Scholarships in each annual competition. Only
National Merit Finalists who plan to attend a college or university that sponsors Merit
Scholarship awards can be considered for one. Winners are chosen by officials of the
sponsoring college or university. Congrats, Matthew!
Scholarship Update
This list is updated regularly, so check back frequently. If a scholarship is of interest to
you, go ahead and pursue it. Do not wait until the deadline to apply. Notice that the
scholarships are listed in chronological order by their due date, but the most recent
additions will be in red.
May 2013 Deadlines
• Better Business Bureau Student of Integrity Award
Scholarships worth $500 to $1000 will be given to students across the upstate. Current
juniors are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Qualifications include high character,
leadership, community service, and overall personal integrity and academic history.
Because only one application per high school will be accepted, all applications from TL

our school. Applications are available in the guidance office and are to be returned to the
guidance office by May 24, 2013, which is an extended deadline.
• Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation Scholarship
The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation is unique in that it offers scholarships to single
mothers, children who attend alternative schools, students who have earned a GED,
students with grade point averages of 2.0 and students who have previously been
incarcerated, etc. but desire a higher educational opportunity. This group is generally not
the recipients of college scholarships and is typically ignored by the Board of Education.
The Shawn Carter Foundation offers scholarship opportunities to any under-served
student across the United States who desires a higher education. One of the key questions
asked by the Foundation when students apply for a scholarship is: What are your plans
to give back to the community? All applicants must be a US Citizen and complete the on-
line application at http://www.shawncartersf.com/apply/ no later than May 31, 2013.
• Business Partners’ Service Learning Scholarship

service. They also must have a GPA of 3.0 and submit an essay on one of the assigned
topics indicated on the application. Additional qualifications are also required. To obtain
a list of those qualifications and an application, students should visit the guidance office.
The deadline for applications to be returned to the TL Hanna guidance office is May 30,
2013.

Band
Band Banquet will be Thursday, May 23, at 7:15 pm in the mall at TLH. The menu
includes BAR-B-QUE from the Smoking Pig. We hope you can join us as we celebrate
the conclusion of another great year and honor our senior band members. Our first year
members will be given certificates for their Block H letters and officers for next year will
be announced. All of our seniors will be recognized for their great careers in the TLHB!
Needs:
We are need of someone to look at and assist with repairs or suggestions for the
old white “pit” truck. This truck is in need of repair; however, we want to
explore all options before making decisions that will affect us long range. This
truck is used for rehearsals on site and very short local events.
We are in need for some gravel or “fill dirt” for repairs on the band hill and
field. If anyone is interested in taking this on as a project please let me know.
The district has provided us with an additional Conex storage box on the band
field. One of our summer projects will be to re-organize equipment and
supplies. As a result, we are in need of some shelving units of any kind to store
materials more efficiently.
Next year is a possible travel year for Jazz Ensemble. Due to the expense and
logistics involved, I would like to get a couple of volunteer parents to assist with
Jazz Band issues.
We are also in the need of volunteers for Indoor Drumline and Winter Guard
who would be able to assist with these groups. These volunteers would also
need to be available for some board meetings during the indoor season in order
to assist with planning and travel issues.
The district is purchasing new uniform pants and gauntlets for the band
uniforms. These items will be available for the first full performance this fall.
