to middle school can be exciting, and nerve-wracking! Together we’ll go over common fears

and worries, how to support kids during the transition, and what to expect from your middle-

graders, all parents are welcome. Please join this informative workshop presented by Holly

Baxter, our Elementary School Counselor, on Monday, 5/2 7:00 – 8:00 pm or for a repeat

Library News From Brookside Librarian, Kelly Shaver! Once again great moments, discussions and new books were shared

together this year in the Brookside Library!!!

A new PTA program called, “The Birthday Book Club” was very successful and appreciated this year!

It is a great opportunity for our library to gain new books on the behalf of your child’s birthday month!

Your $20 donation enables the library to purchase a new release or needed book for the library. We

then present the book to your child for first checkout and a bookplate with their name and birthday

stays in the book as a special donation. This was the first year and the program donated about 140

new books to our library! Thank you for those who donated and look for next year’s sign up forms

online and at registration. Forms are also in the office year-round and in the library. A month notice is required prior to your student’s birthday month and summer birthdays are honored on the half birthday.

Don’t forget to encourage summer reading this summer and check out the summer reading programs

at our local Oak Park Library! http://www.vencolibrary.org/youth/teens/music-movies-and-more

Oak Park’s Community Summer Read for 2016 is the touching realistic novel,

Fish in A Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt (recommended for grades 5-8th). Another excellent list of hot

summer books for all ages with reviews, SRI levels and teacher recommendations and summer reading

contests that begin online on May 2nd is through http://www.scholastic.com.

Happy Summer Reading to all of our Brookside Tigers and families!
