HOPE AND FORGIVENESS There were some interesting conceptions of sin prevalent in the time of the Hebrew scriptures. There was the belief that God punished sin immediately. Those who suf-fered disease or misfortune were, therefore, sinners getting their due from the Al-mighty. Today's first reading hints at another kind of God. When David admits his sin, Na-than declares, "The LORD on his part has forgiven your sin" (2 Samuel 12:13b). Here was not a vengeful God but a merciful God. What good news that must have been to David and those who, like him, could be honest enough to admit their sinful-ness! Jesus is the good news of God's mercy and forgiveness incarnate. Without Jesus, perhaps the Good News would have been too good to believe, too difficult to imag-ine. But there he is in today's Gospel, the God-man, forgiving a sinner and declaring that she is forgiven because of her great love. There is hope, then, for the rest of us sinners, if only we love enough! Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Update on Fr. Tom Morgan A week ago Fr. Tom Morgan, pastor of St. Lawrence Parish and loved by many at Incarna-tion, underwent emergency sur-gery to repair a perforation in his colon caused by diverticulitis.

In a message to his community at St. Lawrence, Fr. Tom states “ Recovery after colon surgery is certainly not easy, but I am doing well and improv-ing each day. I will have a colostomy for about three months while my colon heals. ...After I am released from the hospital, I will likely go to my mother’s home to recover for a short time. I am hopeful that I will be back in the parish for a short while at the end of June prior to my annual vaca-tion in July.” Please keep Fr. Morgan in your prayers. Get Well Cards can be sent to: Fr.
