Megan shows Trinity a picture of her crush

Trinity watched her little neighbour experimenting with her look, a little concerned. Was Megan copying her, and if so how would her parents react?

On one of Megan's visits, Trinity was relieved to discover it was about her at all. It was about a boy. Though as Megan put it, all the best people dressed this way and the inclusion of herself in the girls list of ‘best’ people warmed her.

She listened indulgently while Megan spilled her heart about her crush. Eventually, she revealed it was a teen called Allain, and showed her a blurry picture taken without his knowledge. She told Trinity not to laugh, but he was her babysitter. But she was sure he didn’t think she was a baby. Maybe when she aged up…

As gently as she could, Trinity warned Megan that this Allain probably does see her as just a child. Chances are even if she aged up soon, he would still think of her as his old babysitting charge wouldn’t return her feelings. She could see Megan wasn’t convinced, so dropped it for now.

Her relationship with Edward was stalling. She still had fun on their dates, but his secrecy was killing her inside. That was why she made the decision to use some of her shady skills and pick his pocket. She had to find something, a receipt from his local corner shop, anything.

One night he took her to the club, this was the perfect opportunity. When he missed his wallet, there would be any number of people on the dance floor that might have lifted it. She bided her time and waited for the perfect moment.

At the end of the night, he left her alone while he checked with the staff to see if his wallet had been handed in. She had a rifle through but there was nothing in it of use except a tatty old photo.

Luckily, and against all the odds, the person in it looked familiar…

Trinity was certain, the blurry picture of the teen Megan had a crush on and the kid in Edwards wallet were one and the same. This was the lead she’d needed, now she could track her boyfriend down.

As the sun set, two travellers arrived at the last empty house on Deasil Street. They stayed quiet, not wanting to disturb anyone before the morning.

The next morning however, Bernice Kasitova couldn’t wait to tell her best friend Teresa the news she’d been keeping from her as a surprise. She had moved to Deasil Street!

Page 12: 5.11

Ambrose Merrihall had made it possible. After a few chance meetings in the city at parties, Bernice discovered both of them wanted to move to Appaloosa. A houseshare was the perfect solution, Ambrose hated living alone and Bernice couldn’t afford to.

Bernice goes over the road to meet Teresa, big happy reunion.

She chucked a pebble at Teresa’s window, which had been their code when teens. Teresa came out to tell off the papergirl and was stunned to see Bernice standing there instead.

She ran to Bernice and grabbed her in a big hug. She hardly dared to think, was the furniture moving truck she’d seen yesterday connected to her friends appearance?!

Bernice explains her elderly parents had just died, so she’d finally been free to move out of the tiny village where they’d grown up. Following her to Appaloosa had seemed the perfect option.

Teresa was a bit concerned that Bernice doesn’t seem too upset by the death of her parents, but there was no more time that day to do any digging – she had to get to work.
