General Mass Schedule

FOUNDATION OFFICE NEWS ♦♦♦ PRIEST’S MESSAGE ♦♦♦ It’s pretty awesome that--independent of themselves--both parishes have decided to provide food & social opportunities after some of the masses. I believe there will be snacks, and in some cases, potlucks after liturgies this weekend. What an awesome thing to make our parishes more welcoming! In addition, this also provides us with a much needed opportunity to grow in fellowship and communion with one another.

That being said, I find it pretty funny that in some churches a big selling point is having a Starbuck bar in the church lobby. Young people can come into the entryway and grab a gourmet coffee and some biscotti before they go to hear the preacher’s message.

By contrast the prophet Zechariah gives a true reason for people to get excited. He prophesies good news to us, the chosen people:

Thus says the LORD of hosts: In those days ten men of every nationality, speaking different tongues, shall take hold, yes, take hold of every [faithful] by the edge of his garment and say, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”

In other words, now that the Lord has come, it will not be coffee & rolls that draws people to us. Instead they will want to be with us because they have heard that God Himself is with us! People will hear that we are going to mass and beg us, “PLEASE, TAKE US WITH YOU!”

We really do have something special in our Church and in our prayer. Where-as other small “c” churches can talk about how Jesus came to earth 2000 years ago and healed, and forgave sins, and was present to people; we Catholics can talk about how we can go to Him today! TODAY, we can go to receive the forgiveness of the Lord Jesus in Confession. TODAY, we can go to receive healing from Jesus in the Sacrament of Anointing. TODAY, we can go and touch Him saying, “My Lord and my God” in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

I want to encourage you this week to bring people into contact with the living and true God. If he or she is struggling, don’t immediately send them off to receive help from professionals. First stop them and pray with them. Then invite them to the Sacraments--to be in the presence of the Living God. Let us be attractive to the world not on account of our worldly blessings, but instead on account of the fact that God is with us!

Fr. Tom Anderson Pastor
