    2 Module Description

    Overview of This Module

The 1-Port Ch an nelized STS-1e, T1 Forma t mod ule (see Figure 2-1) provides

one ph ysical port w ith a line rate of 51.84 Mbps. The phy sical port is divided

(chann elized) into 28 virtual DS1 ports. Each virtual D S1 port can be config-

ured as a structured port an d cha nnelized into 24 individual DS0s, providing

a tot al of 672 chann els. Each v irtual DS1 port can a lso be configured as a sin-

gle structured or u nstruct ured cha nn el. The 1-Port Ch an nelized STS-1e,

T1 Format mo dule provides the follow ing interfaces:

The user can configure this module to provide n X 64 Kbps (fractional DS1)

structured circuit emulat ion service. When configured for DS1 circuit emu la-

tion service, the m odule interfaces w ith TDM chan nelized D S1 circuits. It

converts the chan nelized d igital signals (usually v oice data ) to ATM v irtual

cha nn els. Signa ling bit tran sport is also provided, u sing ATM Forum sta n-

dards for chan nel-associated signaling (CAS). This modu le can connect to a

device using 56 Kbps or 64 Kbps for service transport, w ith 8 Kbps for

robbed-bit signaling per DS0. With the 64 Kbps clear channel capability,

this modu le can connect to a device using ISDN primary ra te interface (PRI)

service. Becau se this structured circuit-emulation service can be configured

to use only a fraction of th e time slots, the user can configure several inde-

pendent em ulated circuits to share on e service interface.

The 1-Port Ch an nelized S TS-1e, T1 Forma t m odu le uses ATM Foru m specifi-

cations UNI 3.0 or UNI 3.1, wh ich allow an y DS1 port to act a s a user net-
