WELCOME If you are new to St. Anthony of Padua Parish, please know how welcome you are to worship God with us. The motto of our parish is written in Latin over the front entrance: “The hardworking people of St. Anthony have built this Temple to the Lord.” We know that we have been blessed with one of the most beautiful church most people have ever seen and that the Lord demands more of those who have been given more. Our goal is to is allow the Lord to build with us a parish community of “living Stones” even more beautiful than the physical edifice in which we have the awesome privilege to worship Him. We would love you to become part of that building project!

MESSAGE OF VICAR, Father Marcelo

This phrase seems very hard: "Deny yourself carry your cross and follow Jesus" (Lk 9:23) but it will be harder to hear this final phrase "Get away from me, cursed and go to the

eternal fire" (Mt 25:41). See that everything consists in the cross, in dying everything ends, and there is no other way to life and true inner peace than the way of the Holy Cross and continuous mortification. Walk wherever you want, go wherever you like you will not find higher way at the top, nor safer at the bottom than the way of the Holy Cross. Arrange and organize all things according to your will and opinion and you will find that it is inevitable to suffer in some way, freely or by force, and so you will always find the cross. Because you will feel physical ailments or endure moral pains. Sometimes you will feel abandoned by God, sometimes you will be bothered by your neighbor and what is more serious, sometimes you will be heavy for yourself, and you will not even be able to find relief in a remedy or rest, but it is convenient that you endure everything until God wants. God desires that you learn to suffer hardship, without immediate comfort so that you submit to Him in full and recognize your limitations in adversity. No one feels the passion of Christ so deeply than one who suffers something similar. For the cross is always ready and anywhere awaits you. You cannot escape, run where you run because anywhere you arrive, you take yourself with you and always you will find yourself. Go outside, head inward, and everywhere you will find the cross; and therefore, you need everywhere to have patience if you want to have inner peace and deserve an

eternal prize. If you carry the cross in good spirits, it will lead you and lead you to the desired end where it will be the end of suffering, which is impossible here. If you get along with reluctance it will become heavier and more difficult every time for you and yet you are obliged to carry it. If you reject a cross, without the slightest doubt you will find another and perhaps heavier. If there were something better and more useful for the salvation of men to suffer, Christ would necessarily have demonstrated it by his teaching and example. But he clearly exhorts the disciples and all those who followed him to carry the cross saying: "If anyone wants to come with me, let him deny himself, carry his cross and follow me" (Mt 16:24). So, after reading and delving into all the above, this final conclusion is reached: It is convenient that we enter the kingdom of God through many difficulties (Acts 16:21). Tomas de Kempis, The Imitation of Christ. God bless.

MENSAJE DEL VICARIO, Padre Marcelo
