Andy Warhol Inspired Pop Art-Materials: pencil, 18” x 12” drawing paper, tempera paint, paintbrushes

-Students find a popular or iconic symbol to use as the inspiration for their repeated image.-The teacher will take the pop images to the copier, resize them to fit a standard size piece of paper, and redistribute them to the students.-Fold the large paper in ½ horizontally and vertically to create lines of symmetry and four separate quadrants.-The students will use a pencil to trace the copied image into each of the four quadrants using a light table or well lit window.-Paint each quadrant using a limited palate, and try to change the use of the colors in each of the quadrants so that no two are alike.

-Students bring in wrappers from their favorite candy received on Halloween, emptied of course, and the back of the wrapper is removed.-Use a light-table or window to trace the boarder, letters , and any other details onto the paper. Try to overlap some, crop some off the edge, and have some open or ripped.-Teach “large brush: for larger areas”, and “small brush: for smaller areas”, and stress accurate color matching, and these paintings will look amazingly realistic.
