1. Read your PERSONAL NARRATIVE KERNEL PLANNING SHEET from yesterday.

2. FOR THE NEXT 30 MINUTES—WRITE YOUR ROUGH DRAFT WITHOUT STOPPING.

3. Leave the left page of your journal empty—write on the RIGHT PAGE. (See the board.)

1. READ WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN SO FAR.

2. IF YOU ARE FINISHED WITH YOUR STORY, REVISE THESE AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT.

1. SHARPEN the images in the ATTENTION GETTER. (FIRST SENTENCE.) Give the reader details to see, hear, smell, taste, or feel something important.

2. EX: I realize now that it isn’t what you do on vacation that is so important. It’s about getting to know and appreciate the people you are with because when vacation is over, your connection will be stronger. The memory will bind you together in a special way.
