Beck – Cellphone’s Dead(Michel Gondry)

Reasons why I like this music video:

• It’s filmed in one shot

• There’s spotlight/direct source lighting only, which highlights the main parts

• I prefer this location (in a room) rather than in a bright studio

• The same objects are used to transform throughout the video

Taking Back Sunday – Make Damn Sure (Marc Klasfeld)

Reasons why I like this music video:• Near the end of the video, there are scenes of

killing/destruction which change into scenes that represent innocence and peace

• Showing the band playing connotes emotional release and contrasts with the scenes of the fire/police with the water hose which connotes extreme violence

Taking Back Sunday – Liar (Chris Marrs Piliero)

Reasons why I like this video:• The beats of the music are shown on the polygraph

machine• When the chorus starts, the polygraph machine makes an

image of the lead singer and then the rest of the band• Through the main part of the song, the polygraph machine

makes the whole picture and the band and images are shown by the lines made

• At the end the rest of the band are behind the glass in a separate room to the lead singer and one of the members says they don’t believe a word of what he says, which, as well as the lead singer connected to the polygraph machine, links into the title of the song ‘Liar’

White Stripes - Blue Orchid (Floria Sigismondi)

Reasons why I like this music video:• The mise-en-scene – It’s a derelict house, but there’s still

some old furniture and a broken piano• Different angles are shown (for example at 0:39, 0:42,

1:25 and 1:36)• Right at the end it shows a horse with its hooves raised in

the air above the main character, but doesn’t show how the horse came down and if the woman was hurt – I like this because It gets the viewer thinking about if the horse was actually in the same shot when they filmed or if the two images were merged later on.

Radiohead – House of Cards(James Frost)

Reasons why I like this music video:• The video wasn’t shot with a camera – the director used

lasers and scanners• Because the scanners don’t get a very clear image and

the director moved a sheet of Perspex with little mirrors fixed on around in front of Thom Yorke, the images become distorted and have an un-defined effect.
