    Gloves, Steel Toe Shoes, Back Support

    Prior to the first connection, review JSA

    Inspect Equipment: Lines, Shackles, Slips, Collar

    Clamp, Tong and Tong Hanger

    Tong and Tong Hanger

    Lines (proper length)

    Slips

    Upon the Driller’s instruction, assist in setting the

    slips.

    STAND CLEAR of elevators while connection is

    broken and Top Drive assembly is being raised.

    CONNECTION TO JOINT IN MOUSE HOLE - If

    required, assist with pulling slips in Mouse Hole.

    Slack, Missing parts, Damage,

    Wear, Dies, Keepers, Tong

    Heads

    Avoid drilling fluids.

    Verify elevators are properly

    latched.

    WATCH OUT FOR TRAPPED

    TORQUE. Lay slips on side

    away from rotary table.

    CONNECTION TO STAND IN DERRICK - STAND CLEAR

    until ready to assist with stabbing pipe/stand.

    Assist with stabbing pipe/stand.

    Upon Driller’s instructions, unlatch lead tongs and

    assist in pulling the slips using proper lifting

    techniques.

    Assist in cleaning the rig floor, or follow Driller’s

    instructions.

    Prior to the first connection, review JSA

    Inspect Equipment: Lined, Shackles, Slips, Collar

    Clamp, Tong and Tong Hanger

    Tong and Tong Hanger

    Lines (proper length)

    Slips

    Upon the Driller’s instruction, assist setting the slips.

    When drill collar clamp is in place, install pin and

    tighten clamp properly.

    STAND CLEAR while pump-through-lift-sub connection

    is broken and Top Drive assembly is being raised.

    Slack, Missing parts, Damage,

    Wear, Dies Keepers, Tong Heads

    FOLLOW INSTALLATION

    PROCEDURES PER JSA.

    Avoid tongs and snub lines

    Unchain tongs from A-LEG.

    Latch back-up tongs onto drill collar in Rotary Table,

    using proper tong handles.

    STAND CLEAR while lead tongs are latched onto

    pump-through-sub.

    Make the back-up tongs bite at the same time the

    lead tongs bite; using the proper tong handles.

    Keep the back-up tongs biting while the Driller breaks

    the connection.

    THE DRILL COLLAR CONNECTION IS BROKEN

    After back-up tongs have been unlatched; chain back-

    up tongs to A-leg.

    After Rotary Table stops, unlatch lead tongs.

    Assist in stabbing pump-through-sub into drill collar in

    Mouse Hole.

    Place chain-tong on pump-through-lift-sub.

    Make up pump-through-sub with chain-tongs.

    Remove chain-tongs and STAND CLEAR while drill

    collar is being raised from Mouse Hole.

    Assist in stabbing the drill collar from Mouse Hole into

    the drill collar in the Rotary Table.

    Upon Driller instruction, and lead tongs are latched

    onto drill collar in Rotary Table, latch make up tongs

    onto top drill collar using proper tong handles, and

    make tongs bite.

    Upon Driller’s instruction, STAND CLEAR while

    connection is being torqued.

    THE DRILL COLLAR CONNECTION IS TIGHT

    Upon Driller instructions, unlatch lead tongs.

    After back-up tongs are unlatched, chain back-up

    tongs to A-leg.

    Loosen nut on drill collar clamp and remove pin.

    Assist in pulling the slips, using proper lifting

    techniques.

    Assist in cleaning the rig floor, or follow Driller’s

    instructions.

    AFTER KELLY STOPS TURNING, and the Lead

    Tong Hand unlatches bottom set of tongs. Remove

    bottom set of tongs.

    REVERSING OUT WITH THE KELLY SPINNER -

    Before spinning out, unlatch the top set of tongs,

    using the proper tong handles.

    Make back-up tongs bite on joint in Rotary Table,

    using the propr tong handles, while Driller reverses out

    Kelly.

    AFTER KELLY STOPS TURNING, and the Lead Tong

    Hand unlatches bottom set of tongs. Remove bottom

    set of tongs.

    Hold bottom set of tongs clear of Kelly.

    STAND CLEAR while the Driller picks up on the Kelly.

    Assist with stabbing Kelly into the joint in the Mouse

    Hole

    STAND CLEAR, with tongs, while Driller spins Kelly.

    After the Kelly stops, latch back-up tongs onto Kelly.

    Make the back-up tongs bite as the connection is

    tightened, using the proper tong handles.

    THE CONNECTION IS TIGHT

    Do not get in Driller’s view.

    Keep feet clear of the rotary

    table and slip handles.

    While Driller is pulling on chain, MAKE SURE your

    hands and fingers are in proper position. Control

    spinning chain, especially tail, while reversing out Kelly.

    AFTER KELLY STOPS TURNING, remove excess

    chain from Kelly-saver-sub and wrap, clockwise, onto

    the joint in Mouse Hole.

    STAND CLEAR while the Driller picks up on the Kelly.

    Assist with stabbing Kelly into the joint in the Mouse

    Hole.

    STAND CLEAR while Lead Tong Hand latches back-

    up tong onto Kelly-saver-sub.

    While Driller is pulling on chain, MAKE SURE your

    hands and fingers are in proper position. Control

    spinning chain, especially tail, while spinning joint in

    Mouse Hole onto Kelly.

    AFTER JOINT IN MOUSE HOLE STOPS TURNING,

    remove excess chain.

    Move to back-up tong position. STAND CLEAR while

    Lead-Tong Hand latches lead tongs onto Kelly joint.

    Make the back-up tongs bite as the connection is

    tightened, using the proper tong handles.

    THE CONNECTION IS TIGHT

    MAKE SURE spinning chain is

    placed into one-gallon bucket.

    tension on tail of chain.

    on joint in Mouse Hole before

    wrapping chain.

    Avoid drilling fluids.

    Move to position behind Mouse

    Hole.

    SPINNING CHAIN DRILL PIPE

    MAKING A CONNECTION

    After Lead Tongs Hand latched tongs onto joint in

    rotary, wrap spinning chain, counter clockwise, onto

    tool joint while the Driller pulls the Kelly joint out of the

    Mouse Hole.

    Assist in stabbing the joint from Mouse Hole into the

    joint in the Rotary Table.

    While Driller is pulling on chain, throw and control

    spinning chain using proper technique while Kelly joint

    is being spun up.

    After the Kelly joint stops spinning, remove excess

    chain and latch the back-up tongs on Kelly joint, using

    the proper tong handles.

    Make the back-up tongs bite as the connection is

    tightened, using the proper tong handles.

    MAKE SURE stripper rubber

    does not ride up on tool joint.18

    THE CONNECTION IS TIGHT

    Unlatch the bottom set of tongs, using the proper

    tong handles.

    Hold back-up tongs clear and assist in pulling the

    slips, using proper lifting techniques.

    Chain back-up tongs to A-leg.

    Assist in cleaning the rig floor, or follow Driller’s

    instructions.

    Unlatch the bottom set of tongs.

    After lead tongs are latched to the drill collar in the

    Rotary Table, wrap chain counter-clockwise on drill

    collar in rotary table.

    Assist in stabbing the drill collar from Mouse Hole

    into the drill collar in the Rotary Table.

    “Walk” chain up onto drill collar.

    While Driller is pulling on chain, MAKE SURE your

    hands and fingers are in proper position. Control

    spinning chain, especially tail, while spinning Kelly

    into drill collar in Rotary Table.

    AFTER KELLY AND DRILL COLLAR STOPS

    TURNING, remove excess chain from drill collar.

    Latch the back-up tongs on drill collar, using the

    proper tong handles.

    Make the back-up tongs bite as the connection is

    tightened, using the proper tong handles.

    MAKE SURE not to cross chain.

    Unlatch the bottom set of tongs, using the proper

    tong handles.

    After back-up tongs are unlatched. chain back-up

    tongs to A-leg.

    Loosen nut on drill collar clamp and remove pin.

    Kelly spinner motor - SLOWLY - reversing out Kelly.

    AFTER KELLY STOPS TURNING - Verify tongs and

    crew members are in proper position, pick up on Kelly.

    As the Kelly is moved to the Mouse Hole, lower the

    Kelly into the box of the joint in the Mouse Hole.

    Verify tongs and crew members are in proper position,

    engage the right hand Kelly spinner motor and spin

    Kelly into joint in Mouse Hole.

    Verify tongs and crew members are in proper position,

    engage make up cat-head pulling tongs to tighten

    connection properly.

    Verify tongs and crew members are in proper position

    and the Kelly-Safety-valve is open, raise the Kelly joint

    from Mouse Hole - SLOWLY.

    BE AWARE OF BACK

    As the Kelly is moved to the Mouse Hole, lower the

    Kelly into the box of the collar in the Mouse Hole.

    Verify tongs and crew members are in proper position,

    engage the right hand Kelly spinner motor and spin

    Kelly into collar in Mouse Hole.

    Verify tongs and crew members are in proper position,

    engage the appropriate cat-head per torque

    requirements. Pull tongs to tighten connection

    MAKING A CONNECTION

    PPE Requirements - Hard Hat, Glasses, Work Gloves,

    Steel Toe Shoes, Back Support.

    Prior to the first connection, review JSA.

    Inspect Equipment: Lines, Shackles, Slips, Collar

    Clamp, Tong and Tong Hanger.

    Tong and Tong Hanger.

    Lines (proper length).

    Slips.

    Upon instruction by the Driller, assist in setting the

    slips.

    Place drill collar clamp around collar and hold in place

    until pin is in place and clamp is properly tightened.

    Stand clear while pump-thru-lift-sub connection is

    broken and Top Drive assembly is raised.

    Wait until the back-up tongs are in place, on the

    bottom joint and latched.

    Place tong on the top joint and latch using the proper

    handles.

    Make the lead tongs bite at the same time the back-up

    tongs bite, using the proper tong handles.

    Keep the lead tongs biting while the Driller breaks the

    pump-thru-sub-connection.

    Slack, Missing parts, Damage,

    Wear, Dies, Keepers, Tong

    Heads.

    Keep the lead tongs biting while the Driller rotates

    pump-thru-sub out of drill collar in rotary table.

    After rotary table stops, and lead tongs are unlatched,

    chain lead tongs to A-leg.

    Assist in stabbing pump-thru-sub into drill collar in

    Mouse Hole.

    Assist with making up pump-thru-sub with chain-tongs.

    Dope drill collar in rotary table.

    Assist in stabbing the drill collar from Mouse Hole into

    the drill collar in the Rotary Table.

    Latch lead tongs onto drill collar in Rotary Table, using

    proper tong handles, and make tongs bite.

    Upon Driller’s instruction, stand clear while connection

    is being torqued.

    THE DRILL COLLAR CONNECTION IS TIGHT

    Upon Driller’s instructions, unlatch back up tongs.

    After lead tongs are unlatched, chain lead tongs to A-leg.

    Assist in removing the drill collar clamp by holding

    proper handles as clamp is loosened and pin is

    removed.

    Remove clamp from drill collar and place in proper

    location.

    Assist in pulling the slips using proper lifting

    techniques.

    Assist in cleaning the rig floor, and follow Driller’s

    instructions.

    AFTER KELLY STOPS TURNING, unlatch bottom set

    of tongs.

    Place the lead tongs on the joint in the Mouse Hole.

    STAND CLEAR while the Driller picks up on the Kelly.

    Assist with stabbing Kelly into the joint in the Mouse

    Hole.

    Make the lead tongs bite on the joint in the Mouse

    Hole, using the proper tong handles, while the Driller

    spins the Kelly.

    After the Kelly stops, step back while the top tongs are

    latched onto Kelly.

    After the top tongs are on the Kelly, make the bottom

    tongs bite.

    Make the lead tongs bite as the connection is tight-

    ened, using the proper tong handles.

    THE CONNECTION IS TIGHT

    Unlatch the top set of tongs, using the proper tong

    handles.

    Latch the lead tongs onto the joint in the Rotary Table.

    Dope the connection in the Rotary Table as the Driller

    pulls the joint out of the Mouse Hole.

    Assist in stabbing the joint from Mouse Hole into the

    joint in the Rotary Table.

    Keep the lead tongs biting while the Driller breaks the

    connection.
