DON’T MAKE THAT MISTAKE….Many people during their interview make a fatal mistake that WILL AFFECT your application!

What many people fail to realise is that, at the end of their interview, they are invited to ask questions to the interviewer!

This is crucial!

Don’t make the fatal mistake of not asking questions at the end of the interview. This is a great chance for you to not only demonstrate your enthusiasm, but it demonstrates how well you are able to articulate yourself during that all important interview!

PLAN AHEAD….I would advise that prior to your interview, you come up with a list of 5 to 7 questions that YOU can ask the interviewer.

That way, if you come up with a question that is already answered during the interview process, you have other questions to ask!

If you plan your questions prior to the interview, you will feel confident enough to ask them at the end! Not only that, but it will also show that you have thoroughly prepared for the interviewer – something the interviewers will admire!

QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK…Do you have any reservations about my ability to do this job?

• This is a very bold question, but one that you can ask.

• This illustrates your ability to take on constructive criticism and are willing to learn from those with more experience.

• If they say something which you disagree with, or think you can give an example to support your application, you can give reasons and examples as to where you have demonstrated this in the past.

Try to dispel any misconceptions, and emphasise why you are the perfect candidate for the job!

QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK…What are the future goals of the company? How will my role factor into these goals?

• This is a great question which demonstrates your interest into the company.

• This question also demonstrates that you are ready to do your best with maintaining and promoting the company’s goals.

• Whilst this is a great question, you will want to go into the interview beforehand with some knowledge of what the company values and goals are. Showing no idea of their ambitions will come across as disinterested.

After they tell you their future goals, try and illustrate where you might be able to implement such ways to reinforce them.

QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK…I see that you recently won an award for…

• This demonstrates that you have undertaken research into the company.

• Having prior knowledge of the company will impress the interviewers and show that you have taken an interest into the company.

• This question doesn’t have to be based solely on rewards, it can be anything that the company has achieved or the products or services they are involved with.

Showing prior knowledge will undoubtedly impress the interviewers!

QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK…What is your favourite thing about working here?

• Interviewers love this question because it gives them a chance to promote themselves.

• This also gives you the chance to understand what it is like to work for their company, and what you can expect from your job role.

• Understanding the perks of the job will allow you to boost your application by discussing how you think you would fit into the job role.

QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK…If I were to be successful, is there any training at the beginning?

• This demonstrates your commitment to follow through your job application and are thinking about what the job entails.

• Asking whether any training needs to be undertaken, suggests that you are forward-thinking and want to be aware of what to expect.

Demonstrate that you are thinking of the position of the job and what it entails, as opposed to just being successful during the interview.

QUESTIONS NOT TO ASK…How much does the job pay?

How much vacation time will I get?

What kind of company is this?

What’s the worst thing about working here?

The types of questions that you ask during your interview will suggest to the interviewers whether or not you are to be successful. Don’t ruin your chances of success by asking questions that you shouldn’t!
