THE PRAYER OF THE RESCUED Pastor Duston Moore Sunday, May 17, 2020 TEXT: JONAH 2:1-10 Jonah 2:1 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish’s belly, 2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. 3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. 4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. 5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. 6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God. 7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. 8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord. 10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. 4. SALVATION IS OF THE ________________. CONCLUSION AND APPLICATION ______________________________________________ ______________________________________________ ______________________________________________ Jonah 2:10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. 1. Are you in a low place? Recognize God’s divine hand in your circumstances and place your full dependence on Him. 2. Will your life be business as normal? The vanities of this life won’t satisfy you. Don’t make them your pursuit. 3. Can you testify of God’s rescue in your life? Thankfulness drives a commitment to tell others. 4. Is my life marked by consistent prayer to God? INTRODUCTION__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jonah 1:17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Quote: “This story is not about physical survival, but spiritual revival.”

Psalm 34:6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

1 Samuel 1:10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.

Lamentations 3:54 Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off. 55 I called upon thy name, O Lord, out of the low dungeon. 56 Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

Dependence: God was at work in my past.

Jonah 1:15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.

Dependence: God does deep work in my lowest place.

Psalm 86:13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

Dependence: I remembered the Lord.

Quote: “Mercy doesn’t just rescue us; mercy reveals what we need to see.”

2. VANITIES FORSAKE ___________________.Jonah 2:8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Ecclesiastes 1:2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

Psalm 31:6 I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the Lord. 7 I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;

3. __________________________ BEGETS SACRIFICE.Jonah 2:9a But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed.
