A Bit of History…The original owners were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. McInnerney who built the house in 1922. The house was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Allen in the 1940’s who made few changes to the house but did add a service road from the house to Church Road. The Allens sold the house to Mr. and Mrs. Nuveen around 1950. Mr. Nuveen died in 1968 and Mrs. Nuveen continued to live in the house until the 1990’s. The vision of the current owners has exceeded the original architectural concept of 5 Indian Hill and the original house which included 6,296 square feet, has been enlarged to include over 17,000 square feet of extraordinary living space. The original architect, Reginald D. Johnson, conceived the design to be built in the shape of an “H”, but economic realities resulted in a smaller, “T” shaped design.




A Bit of History Continued…A brochure from the 1935 real estate agent described the house as follows:

" The first floor included a spacious tiled reception hall, a paneled drawing room, a living room, a dining salon, which opened on three sides to a terrace, a kitchen and other service rooms. A staircase to the second floor led to an upstairs lounge with an outside balcony and stairs that joined to a terrace below. Two master suites flanked either side of the lounge, each with their own dressing rooms and baths. The remainder of the second floor consisted of guest suite with bath, linen room and two servant’s quarters. A four car motor house and gardener’s apartment completed the property. "
