  • 1. How did you attract/address your audience? Before I made my film I put together 20 questions to ask my target audience what they would like to see in slasher horror film so I can cater for my target audience and add those elements in my own film. The first question that I asked was what setting do you like to see in a slasher horror film?
  • 2. Looking at the responses I received from my target audience for this question I have decide to film my opening sequence in graveyard and a subway. This is a unfamiliar location for my protagonist therefore it makes the audience think that something will happen to her and my target audience like suspense and fear therefore I have attracted my target audience because I have selected a location that they would want to see a slasher horror film take place in .
  • 3. Another question that I asked my target audience is what components in a horror opening film scares them the most. Below is the responses that I received and from this I have made sure I used these elements in my film . In my horror film I made sure I filmed when it was dark outside to add more creepy feeling to my film because most people are afraid of the dark and by filming my film at night I have attracted my target audience because this element was the most favourite element for my target audience .
  • 4. There are many other ways that I have targeted my audience one being the fact that I have used a male antagonist who had all the elements of a sociopath . My antagonist is fears , scary and has a hidden identity therefore the audience have a fear of the character and can show sympathy towards the girl who he is following. I decided to pick a male antagonist based on the fact that in my primary research my target audience wanted the villain to be a male villain because this is often used in most slasher horror films and when people watch slasher horror film they expect the antagonist to be a male antagonist who meets the stereotype of a villain in a slasher horror film. And because I have given the villain characteristics of a killer it draws my target audience in to my film because I have featured what interest them in my opening sequence.
  • 5. Strong /fast Manages to run fast even with crippled leg Crippled leg Abnormal behaviour , wanting to kill the protagonist and following her around Wears a mask to hide his identity How I adopted the stereotype of sociopath in my own film to attract my audience Young male Black jacket inspired by the costume worn in scream. Smart because he finds another route which leads him to the protagonist Determined to kill , drags its leg across the floor to run after the protagonist.
  • 6. Another way that I attracted my target audience is through the use of sound, the non- diegetic music of the piano that plays throughout my opening sequence adds suspense and fear to my film. The non- diegetic music helped to set up the atmosphere and comes across as creepy and sinister which keeps my target audience interested. Also by having no dialogue in my opening I have attracted my audience because silence is seen as one of the most important tool as it doesnt give away too much but it also shows the disturbing atmosphere of my opening sequence. Also in my opening sequence I left the ending with a cliffhanger , where the antagonist and protagonist make the same turn and meet half way in the subway . This cliff hanger makes my audience want to find out what will happen next it makes them ask questions like did the girl die or did she get away ? Why is he following her? Who is he ? And what is their relationship? All these missing information would make my audience want to watch the film and find out what the whole plot is about.
  • 7. The ending cliffhanger. Throughout the opening sequence the protagonist has been running away from antagonist but towards the end of my opening sequence the antagonist and the protagonist meet half way and the film ends here which leaves my audience with suspense and makes them wonder what happened from there
  • 8. Another question that helped me understand the interest of my target audience is question seven. In this question I asked , what age group would you like to see within a horror slasher film and from these responses I made sure I used characters in this age group for my film so my audience can relate with them in terms of age. The responses that I got show that 50% of people want to see 17-19 year olds in slasher horror film therefore I selected my characters from people that were in this age group so the audience can identify themselves with the characters and this helped to attract my audience. Female character Male character
