We’ve all done this. More is not always better.

What happens to your skin when you over cleanse andexfoliate? Over exfoliating can break down the skin leaving it vulnerableto bacteria and acne breakouts. If you suffer from acne and breakouts you may feel the needto cleanse and exfoliate more because you think you haveoverly oily skin. What happens is that over cleansing and exfoliating dries outyour skin, this triggers the oil glands to produce more oil whichresults in clogged pores and an increase in breakouts. Dermatologists’ advice does vary in regards to exfoliating, however many urge to exfoliate with care. It is necessary for you to exfoliate, this removes dead skin toencourage new regeneration and healthy cells, BUT if youover do it, you run the risk of sensitive, inflamed, peeling, dryskin.

The benefits To have healthy skin is something that everybody wants andmore importantly you want it. So when choosing your cleansing and exfoliating routine besure to use a gentle yet effective cleanser, one that willremove dirt and impurities from your skin without stripping ordrying out your skin. An exfoliating face washer will lightlyremove any cleansing residue and primes the skin for yourmoisturiser.

Mistake 1:  Excessive Cleansing & Over Exfoliating...

Oily skin needs moisture too…

What happens when you don’t moisturise? If you avoid moisturising you’re creating a cycle, one of lack of moisture, then excess oil produced, leading to clogged pores and skin breakouts.

The Benefits of moisturising: Sebum is the body’s oil or waxy substance that is made up of fatty acids, squalene and wax esters which is secreted by the Sebaceous glands. Sebum protects the body from germs and maintains the skin barrier.

Natural, botanical ingredients such as hemp seed oil, jojoba oil, avocado and apricot kernel oil all stimulate the sebum without clogging pores.

These ingredients work with the skin, not against it. They hydrate, soften and moisturise the skin while restoring the natural balance and overall skin texture.

When choosing a moisturiser always choose one that won’t clog pores (non-comedogenic). Hemp seed oil is non-comedogenic with a comedogenic rating of zero, making it perfect for oily and acne prone skin.

Mistake 2:  Not Moisturising Oily Skin...

Your skin tells your health story.

Your skin is the largest functioning organ of your body. So when you are experiencing skin problems like acne, psoriasis, dermatitis, it can be an indicator that something else is going on inside your body.

One reason for your concern is with your gut health, or more specifically the health of your gut micro-biome. Gut microbesand your overall gastrointestinal tract health, play a huge part in the health of your skin.

Maintaining a healthy diet, avoiding processed foods, sugars, grains and refined carbs is essential for beneficial bacteria toflourish in your gut. Very broadly, when bad bacteria in your gut outweigh the good, the toxins that are created trigger inflammation in yoursystem. Now interestingly, acne is an inflammatory condition.

As the saying goes, ‘we are what we eat’. For healthy eating, choose an abundance of vegetables, low sugar fruits, legumes, bone broths and fermented foods. Drinkplenty of water and work on reducing your stress. Avoid sugar, refined carbs, caffeine, alcohol, take away & fatty foods andsmoking.

There are many other contributing factors to problem skin conditions. However improving your gut health will enhance yourhealth and vitality of your skin.

The benefits of hemp seeds and oils that you might not know • Hemp seeds are rich in soluble and non-soluble fibre that naturally cleanses the colon and reduces sugar cravings.

• They are high in gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an essential omega-6 fatty acid that has been proved to naturally balancehormones.

Mistake 3:  Bad Diet/Poor Gut Health...

To squeeze or not squeeze is the temptation.

Let’s admit it, we all have that one friend who is eager tosqueeze…..or maybe it’s you.

Picking at your blemishes or acne results in biggerblemishes due to the infection causing the bacteria enteringyour broken skin.

Picking or squeezing aggravates the already existinginflammation and if you do it, it pushes the puss deeper andwider into the skin.

The cycle begins with you squeezing the blemish, it breaksthe skin and puss is released, a scab forms over theruptured skin, and your tempted to pick again. This cycleleads to damaging scarring of the skin.

What should you do? Use a gentle yet effective daily cleanser, an antibacterialmoisturiser, and eat healthy.

Of course if you have severe cystic acne always seekadvice from a qualified dermatologist.

Mistake 4:  Picking at Blemishes...

We live in an increasingly toxic world, with chemicals ravaging our environment, our food chain and our personal care products.

Pick up any of the commercially produced cosmetics and you’ll be greeted with a plethora of synthetic ingredients you will findimpossible to pronounce. Our skin acts like a sponge soaking up any product applied to it, then into the blood stream and lymphatic system. Ask yourself, how safe are the products you apply to yourself?

Chronic illness and disease is on the increase and the average person is exposed daily to hundreds of chemicals. Thesechemicals accumulate on the liver, kidneys and lymphatic system.
