5 1/2″ x 11″ TRI Shutter card template 2009/05/12 tags: Template , Tutorial by craftiblog The original version of the TRI Shutter card is based on a piece of card stock that measures 5 1/2″ x 12″. Lots of my card stock is 8 1/2″ x 11″ so it made sense to try to figure out a TRI Shutter based on an 11″ width. Here is what I came up with. It is based of the full card front version I created. The link for that sample is HERE . You will end up with a card that is just slightly smaller than a standard A2 size. The actual finished measurements when the card is folded are 3 3/4″ x 5 1/2″. EDITED TO ADD: Some of the measurements in the photo are somewhat hard to read. Reading from left to right they are as follows: 3 3/4″; 1 13/16″; 1 13/16″; 1 13/16″ and 1 3/4″

The original version of the TRI Shutter card is based on a piece of card stock that measures 5 1/2″ x 12″. Lots of my card stock is 8 1/2″ x 11″ so it made sense to try to figure out a TRI Shutter based on an 11″ width.

Here is what I came up with. It is based of the full card front version I created. The link for that sample is HERE.

You will end up with a card that is just slightly smaller than a standard A2 size. The actual finished measurements when the card is folded are 3 3/4″ x 5 1/2″.

EDITED TO ADD:Some of the measurements in the photo are somewhat hard to read. Reading from left to right they are as follows: 3 3/4″; 1 13/16″; 1 13/16″; 1 13/16″ and 1 3/4″

And here is a diagram of one of the ways it can be folded.

I wanted to try my hand at a “manly” Tri Shutter Card. I also wanted to see if I could make the fold so that I had a full card front. Here’s my first try, The basic directions are on the pictures.

Page 4: 5 1.2 x 11 TRI Shutter Card Template

Here is the way it should be folded in order to get a full card front when the card is finished.

Finished sample of card based on 5.5″ x 11″ card stock HERE

A while ago I worked on a template for the TRI Shutter card using 5.5″ x 11″ card stock vs. 12″. Here’s the template: Tutorial for 5.5″ x 11″ TRI Shutter card

I started the finished sample last week before the Memorial Day Weekend and when I returned today I put on the finishing touches. This is the closed view:

Close up so you can see how I assembled the flower medallion with seed beads

There are a butt load of materials, but I know someone will ask lol! Here ya’ go:

Base: Olive Green Card Stock, cocoa brownDSP: First Blush by Studio D & Best Occasions Punch-out pack by Wal-MartDie’s & Punches: Giga Scallop circle punch, Large standard circle by Marvey; tags & leaves by Sizzix; daisy punch by Marvey; Nestabilities Label 3Stamps: All by Stampin Up: Sets Wonderful You; Pocket Silhouettes and Simple SketchesAssessories: Ribbon: Offray; Gold cord: SU; Pearl seed beads; copper brad; 3-d mounting tape; UTE Clear embossing powder; chalk; white glitter puffy paint; fiskers paper crimper

Edited to add: I knew I should have explained how I did the flower medallion. I got an email asking me just that.Building the flower medallion:1. Start with punching a giga scallop circle (cocoa brown); rub the edges with an ink pad (your choice of color; I used copper); snip each scallop a few times to make it look flower like.2. punch a large circle and add it to the center. (you can barely see this but it is a olive green DSP) It will cover the ends of the snipped scallop in case the petals from the flower don’t cover it.3. Stamp the flower (not the stem) on orange DSP; emboss in detail black. Rub petals with orange chalk. Push a watermark pad over the entire flower; add clear UTE and emboss. Cut each petal completely out; set aside.4. Punch a 1″ circle; add glue to the outer perimeter or add industrial strength tape. Take one of the individual flower petals and add it as close to the edge of the circle as you can. Add petals completely around the circle for the 1st layer.

Page 10: 5 1.2 x 11 TRI Shutter Card Template

5. add another layer of glue; add a 2nd layer of petals. Space the petals so that they go over gaps in the first layer.6. Add glitter puffy paint or crystal lacquer to the flower’s center. Pour beads or glitter into the wet glitter glue or lacquer. Because I used pretty large pearl seed beads I also added a little crystal lacquer over the top to help hold them together. Let dry.

Jan Webb in LateNightStampers showed a card sample of something called a TRI Shutter Card. It looks more like a Quad Fold Card; but that’s just me. Just by a few folds and cuts it makes this great fold. I found some written instructions but to make it really easy to understand I took some photos. Wait till you see how easy this really is and the wonderful results.

Start with a 12″ long piece of card stock that is 5 1/2″ tall. This size will fit into a standard invitation size envelope when all folded.Score at 2″, 4″, 8″ and 10″

Turn the card stock and now measure 1 1/2″ in from the long side. Use your craft knife and make a slit starting at the 2″ score and bring it down to the 10″ score mark. Make sure to do this on

Page 11: 5 1.2 x 11 TRI Shutter Card Template

BOTH long sides.

This picture shows the mountain & valley folds much easier than can be written out. Just take a look and make your folds as pictured.

Page 12: 5 1.2 x 11 TRI Shutter Card Template

Now I’ve added decorative scrapbook papers (DSP) to each of the surfaces of the card. I made sure to leave a little boarder around each piece of the DSP; 1 for looks and 2 so that when the card is folded the DSP won’t buckle.

Stamped and embellished. This view shows me looking down on the card so you can see all of the 3-d folds.

Page 13: 5 1.2 x 11 TRI Shutter Card Template

I’ve laid the card flat for photographing so you can see all the decorations.

I’ve got the card tipped a little bit for photographing, but this is the open view while standing.

This is for a color theme swap that I am in. I kept it pretty simple and just left the DSP do the work. I used a Scallop Fan Folded Flower and the TRI Shutter template for 5.5″ x 11″ size

The DSP is from the First Blush collection by Studio D; the mini words are by Hero Arts; the thinking of you is a $1 stamp from Michaels. I also used a leaf die cut by Sizzix; a Nestabilities scallop oval and standard oval; silk flowers rubbed into a caramel ink pad, copper brads and lots of 3-d mounting tape.
