THE BIGGEST REASON CUSTOMERS LEAVE EMPTY HANDED

Shane Decker will bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to the Alabama-Georgia Jewelers

Convention, and share why many customers leave your store empty-handed. He has critiqued sales

associates in action hundreds of times over the years, and most sales associates simply do not know

how to close a sale…

Don't miss Shane Decker at his best. Plan to attend, and bring in staff members if possible.

Remember, they are your front line!

Home Sweet HomeJewelers Mutual urges you to protect yourself and your family from a targeted home invasion

As a jeweler, you understand the risks you face doing what you love. If you were the victim of a robbery at work, you

probably have procedures in place to help you and your staff survive and recover. But what if a criminal targets you and

your family at home?

The best way to prevent this type of crime is to recognize the threat before it happens. Home invasions almost always

involve “casing,” as criminals carefully identify targets, observe their target’s patterns of behavior and build a plan to attack.

Here are five tips from Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company, the only insurance company dedicated solely to protecting the

jewelry industry.

1. Shed some light on your surroundings. You can help deter crime by installing strategic motion sensing

floodlights around the entire perimeter of your home. Mount them high enough to prevent tampering.

2. Install an alarm system. Invest in a well-designed and professionally installed and maintained residential alarm

system for your home. Make sure family members know how to use it, including any children in the household.

3. “But I didn’t order a pizza.” Lock your doors and windows and set your perimeter alarm even when you are at

home. Install a peephole, and instruct family members never to unlock the door unless they know who is on the

other side. Confirm the identity of any delivery or service person that rings the bell, and ask them to provide

identification.

4. Be smart with your phone. Keep your number unlisted and unpublished, and carry a fully-charged cell phone

with you at all times including next to the bed while you sleep. Get cell phones for other family members, and be

sure they know how and when to call 9-1-1.

5. Beware of tiger kidnappings. Tiger kidnappings got their name because the perpetrators stalk their victims like

the large cats stalk their prey, observing unobserved. After observing their victim’s routines and habits long enough

to predict what their target will do, one robber takes the jeweler’s family hostage while his accomplice takes the

jeweler back to the store to clean it out! In the event of a home invasion, instruct your family to stay calm and

follow the robber’s directions. Whenever you suspect you are being followed to/from your place of business, keep

driving to a safe destination and call the police immediately from your cell phone.

A jeweler’s day doesn’t end at close of business, and Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company puts your personal safety first, at

work or at home. When you leave the store don’t let down your guard, and remember to share these vital safety tips with

your employees and your family.
