Visit to the City of DJAKOVO on 12 June 2018
– presentation
Departure from Osijek by bus: around 13.00
Arrival to Djakovo: around 13.45
The city of Đakovo is located in the central, most beautiful part of Slavonia (Eastern Croatia). The city is often referred
to as The Heart of Slavonia.
The first thing any visitor sees are the two towers and the dome of
the most beautiful cathedral in the area between Venice and
Istanbul. The town’s pride, St. Peter’s Cathedral and its towers
which rise above the town like its guardians, are visible from far
away.
Đakovo offers an abundance of historical, cultural and natural
sites. Numerous religious buildings like the Archbishop’s
mansion, monastery and cultural-historic monuments are
located in the historical centre of Đakovo, which make the town
recognizable and unique.
The Lipizzan Horse Farm in Đakovo was established in 1506, which qualifies
it to be among the oldest horse farms in Europe and proves a long tradition
of horse breeding in this area. Horses of the Lipizzan breed have been bred
in the Horse Farm since the beginning of the 19th century. Today the State
Horse Farm is breeding and selecting the Lipizzan horses, it organizes
dressage services, which quality has been confirmed by conquering
noteworthy rankings in horse competitions. Apart from its primary goal to
protect the genetic potentials of the Lipizzan breed, tourist facilities of the
Farm are of an immense importance since it became a must visit tourist
destination.
