Chung Ma’s Taekwondo will again be offering their fun and exciting Taekwondo Club for all Putnam Valley Elementary school students. This year’s program will consist of learning the basic blocks, kicks and punches of the martial art for all new students and broadening the knowledge of all rejoining members in a safe fun atmosphere. By learning these techniques we will not only be enhancing the student’s physical abilities but also their confidence, self-control, focusing skills, self-defense and the “Yes I can attitude”. Board breaking and special games will also be a part of the program to help teach the martial art and stimulate the children’s physical and mental abilities. The instructor for the class will be Master Wayne DeRosa, who is a 7th degree black belt and also National and International Champion

After School Art Classes with Kelly Carney

FOR GRADES K-4

This session we will create arctic animals and snowflake art.

We will also learn about the Chinese New Year and create a project themed for the holiday.

Most sessions will begin with a short story and discussion.

Classes take place after school from 3:30-4:30pm with pick-up at the double doors to the right of the

cafeteria FEE: $90 Supplies are provided. Parents should send a smock or old t-shirt.

Children will begin exploring with a “free build” time before they learn a new technique or strategy with our new weekly themes. They will then be presented with a challenge or “partner challenge”, where they will be

asked to create their piece along with their peers to solve a specific problem. The class will end by encouraging students to reflect on each piece they have created and how they used problem solving

strategies throughout the class.

Mad Science activities are so much fun children forget they are learning! These recreational science programs

are designed to help all kids learn and enjoy science.

Winter 2020: Science Explorers In this super science sampler, explore the world of

science with a fun science topic each week. Students will experiment with super-strong magnets and have a

“hair-raising” experience while learning about electricity. They will play tricks on their senses by

experimenting with their taste buds and manipulating sound waves. Kids will investigate light waves, explore the properties of color, and then baffle their eyes by exploring optical illusions. They will also analyze the

amazing properties of polymers and make slime. Take home projects include a periscope, an electric

Newtonian color wheel, floating magnets, a staticelectricity stick, a color-changing “heat sheet”, slime and

more!

: Adventures in Science During this science sampler, children will uncover the vital rolethat science plays in detective work, examine the physics behind popular toys and get a buzz out of the amazing world of insects.Your Mad Scientists will explore earth science, weatherphenomena, and experiment with some kitchen chemistry.Children will build their own Mad Science Machine, and createtheir very own short animated cartoon.
