DURING LENT

4th & 5th Sunday of Lent March 11 & 18, 2018

Hi!!! It’s Us Again!!!

Did you miss us over the past three months?? As you push on towards Easter, know that many off shore workers are packing their bags and returning to our area. Last year about 2000 workers from Mexico came into Norfolk County to help us out. That means almost the same number of women were left to care for their home and children, without, “The man of the house.” Yes, many had more cash to run the household, but ……????? Family ?????? As a Catholic Church in the Diocese of London and the Deanery of Ingersoll, we attempt to offer Mass, using the Spanish language, Sundays at 7:00 pm, April 1st to November 1st in St. Bernard’s Church, Waterford. We also attempt to offer free transportation by bus from farms anywhere from St. Williams to Burford, and Port Dover to Otterville. Bus drivers are very helpful and agreeable. CWL members give a monthly cupcake and coffee evening. Thanks, folks!! Of course money is always in demand. Our only cash flow is to the bus company….about $35,000 each year. The money comes from:

1. Bishop’s office (Diocese of London)

2. Parishes in Ingersoll Deanery

3. Offerings at the weekly Mass

4. C.W.L. clothing sales each Sunday

So….. PLEASE, as farmers and neighbours, inform us of where Spanish speaking workers are living. Secondly, contribute clothing suitable for resale to laborers (max waist size 38). Principle contact phones are Fr. Frank 519-582-1717, Herman 519-443-8839 or your parish office.

Welcome Our RCIA Candidates

The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation) is the process through which people who feel the

desire to know more about the Catholic Church are formed in the teachings and practices of our faith. This year we are blessed with 6 adults who are on this journey of discovery and discernment about joining the Catholic Church. Please pray for Corey Daigle, Jen-

nifer Jolink, Mary Leclerc, Brandon Ponting, Amanda Scherer and Mark Whitmore as they approach the Easter Vigil on March 31 and reflect on entering the Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist.

Deacon John.

A message from Father Lucio and Father Alan

By the weekend of March 17/18, you should have received the LENT – EASTER mail out. In the mail out you will find the Holy Week Schedule, as well as, a message from our PARISH TEAM and our FAMILY OF PARISHES PASTORAL COUNCIL. If you do NOT receive this mail out, please contact the Parish Office.

Here are some of the highlights of the Lent-Easter mail out.

Palm Sunday of the Passion of our Lord we will be collecting your SHARE LENT offerings for Development and Peace. Our parishes will begin to pray the PRAYER OF UNITY together on Holy Thursday. We will continue with this at Sunday liturgies. April 14/15 we will preach at all masses on the Mission Statement. (see front cover of bulletin) Wed. April 18, all are invited to a TOWN HALL MEETING to create goals to carry out the vision of our Mission Statement. This May all priests in the Diocese of London will have an opportunity to attend a 5 day retreat. Sunday, June 17, 11:00 am, we will gather together with Bishop Fabbro to celebrate the Eucharist at Holy Trinity High School! Check out our NEW website: www.catholicfamilyparishesnorfolk.dol.ca

All of our parishes have an excellent Funeral Luncheon Ministry. We THANK the many volunteers who provide the Funeral lunches for our families, as they grieve the loss of a loved one. In three of our parishes those volunteers are the Catholic Women’s Leagues. Thank you to all for this tremendous service provided for our families. St. Mary’s Parish, Simcoe, has been blessed with Alicia and Robert Potvin, who have facilitated this ministry with other volunteers, for quite some time. Alicia and Robert wish to step down as the leaders in this Ministry. We THANK them for their years of service at St. Mary’s. We need to discuss and plan how to move forward. Either we find other volunteers to direct the Funeral Lunches or they will cease as a parish ministry and our families will need to go elsewhere, or hire a catering service. Let us meet and discuss this. We ask anyone interested to attend a meeting Thursday, March 15, 9:00 am at St. Mary’s Parish Upper Hall. Please come to this meeting if you can help with continuing this Ministry or if you have suggestions. The students from India, attending the Social Work graduate program at Fanshawe College are doing well and attend St. Mary’s Parish. They all have a place to live but one female student is looking for an apartment or room to rent with a family and five other male students are looking for an apartment together or separate. If any person has any information, please contact us. Thanks! Our PARISH TEAM and Staff contact information is listed on the back page of the bulletin. In the future we will also be including the following Chairperson Contact information inside the bulletin: Family of Parishes Pastoral Council Beth Roche 519-428-9009 [email protected]

St. Bernard’s Social Committee

Margaret Hutchinson is stepping down from her position of coordinating the Social Committee. In many ways Marg was the Social Committee, with her countless hours of commitment to our parish in recruiting many volunteers to host several events every year for 8 years. These events were very successful and have raised funds for many projects, including partly paying for our new sign in front of the church. Much THANKS to Marg for her leadership and creativity and also to the many volunteers. The Committee met this past Tuesday and are planning two events. Sunday, April 15, Hot Cross Buns, coffee and tea Social and Sunday, May 27, Brunch with Pancakes, sausage and beans, both following 9:00 a.m. Mass.

There will be no parish social luncheon for the month of March at St. Mary’s Church. The social luncheons are usually held the last Sunday of every month, following the 11 am Mass at St. Mary’s

Up-coming Men’s and Women’s Cursillo 2018

Cursillo (pronouced kur-SEE-yo) is a Spanish word meaning “little course” . Cursillo is a worldwide lay movement which began with the first weekend in 1944 on the island of Mallorca, Spain. In the 1960’s, Pope Paul VI officially designated Cursillo as a renewal movement of the Church and named St. Paul as it’s patron and protector.

“. . .the Cursillo method aims at helping transform, in a Christian way, the milieus where people live and work through the involvement of “new men and women” who have become such from their encounter with Christ.” - Pope John Paul II

“A Cursillo is three days long, but lasts a lifetime.”

The Women’s Weekend is: March 15 - 18, 2018
