A Message from the Headmaster

Dear Members of the Xavier Community,

It is hard to imagine that we are already so far into

a new school year. We are already looking forward

to Thanksgiving and the blessed Christmas season.

As we present this latest edition of our Xavier Today

magazine, I have the opportunity to look back at all that

has gone on here over the last few months.

I see teachers and students using the new technology

that has been installed in the classrooms. Just a few

weeks ago I walked with Father Greg Galvin and a

number of benefactors of the school as we blessed and

officially dedicated these rooms. It is amazing that so

much was accomplished over the short span of the

summer. But the satisfaction of watching our students

benefitting from these upgrades is immense. We have

just 2½ classrooms and several offices to renovate and

then the original building will be completely refurbished.

From the summer programs that we provided, to

the opening of school with special assemblies and the

opening of school liturgy with Bishop Michael Cote;

the alumni golf tournament to the homecoming and

reunion weekend; learning about some of our alumni

and student accomplishments outside of Xavier to

the planning for upcoming events there is a myriad of

articles that I hope will mean as much to you as they do

to me.

We have welcomed the class of 2012 to the school and

are already well underway with the process of preparing

for the class of 2013. We were blessed with a beautiful

day in October for our Open House to greet prospective

students. As you read this, these young men will have

taken the first step to enrollment, the entrance exam.

We realize the impact of the economy on our

community and so I am grateful to our students for

success in surpassing their goal in the “Students

Helping Students” ad book campaign. We are pleased

to present information about the annual fund drive and

respectfully request your support.

We thank you for your attention and interest in Xavier

High School and wish you all the blessings that God may

bestow on you and your family. Remember that you will

always remain in our prayers.

Brother William, C.F.X.

Headmaster

MERIDEN – In the late 1960s, Paul Van Almkerk (class of 1969) and Stephen Foell (class of 1968) were part of a close circle of Meriden friends who went to Xavier High School in Middletown.

The two have remained close over the years, but nothing could have prepared them for the bond that exists now. In late August, Foell donated part of his liver in a transplant operation to save the life of Van Almkerk’s daughter, Kayla, who has cystic fibrosis.

“The decision for me, it was actually the easiest decision in the world,” Foell said.

“You have people like this in your life,” he said. “To me, he was like family.”

Today, Foell and Van Almkerk both live in Massachusetts, Foell in Dorchester and Van Almkerk in Ipswich. Both still have family in Meriden and return to the city regularly. Van Almkerk says he still tries to make it to the football game between the high school rivals Maloney and Platt.

Both played football for Xavier, both were ends, and Van Almkerk recalls beating Maloney his senior year at a game played

The following are excerpts of a story that appeared in the

of two of our graduates and we are pleased to be able to share it

at Palmer Field in Middletown. After high school, Foell served in

the Army while Van Almkerk attended Northeastern University in Boston, graduating in 1974. Van Almkerk eventually earned a doctoral degree, in education, from the University of California. Today, he works as a consultant for mental health organizations.

Foell is a registered nurse who works for the state of Massachusetts as a consultant for people with cognitive disabilities.

For a time, the two were roommates, in Cambridge, when Foell was attending the University of Massachusetts and Almkerk was at Boston University.

“We were close, we always stayed connected,” Foell said.

Kayla, who is 15, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was 18 months old. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease in which a genetic defect causes the body to produce thick mucus that clogs the lungs and obstructs the pancreas.

An estimated 30,000 Americans have cystic fibrosis. Fifty years ago, few children were expected to survive the disease. Today, those afflicted can live well into adulthood.

Neither Paul Van Almkerk nor his wife, Janice, had a family history of the disease, he said. Though Kayla’s childhood has been full of struggle, she has managed to stay involved in typical youthful activities, including swimming, skiing, music and playing soccer. “This is a kid who would have a few excuses to miss school, but she didn’t,” Van Almkerk said. “She very much wants to have a regular life.”

When she was 11, Kayla underwent a splenectomy, and at that time Van Almkerk recalls doctors expressing concern about the condition of her liver. In February this year, the family was told she would need a liver trans-plant within six months. “Kayla’s lungs today are relatively healthy,” Van Almkerk said. “The liver took the major hit.”

In most liver transplants, the liver or liver tissue comes from a deceased donor. About 17,000 Americans are on a waiting list for a liver transplant, according to the American Liver Foundation. “There’s not enough cadaver donors coming in and consequently you have to be almost critically ill to be moved to the top of the list,” Van Almkerk said. The liver is the

ENDURING PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

The Xaverian charism is, at its core, relational. Therefore, a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School strives to create an atmosphere in which relationships can

grow and thrive. In such an atmosphere, all can experience respect and care for their dignity as children of God. Those who work in a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School are called to understand and live their role as ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which they proclaim by their attitudes, actions and manner of relating to others, especially their students.

Helping Our Own

“Once again our students responded in spectacular fashion to the challenge

we put before them at the ad drive assembly in September” said headmaster Brother William, C.F.X. “The challenge was to do their part in the one student fund drive…to raise money for student financial aid.”

The ad book, which is now being assembled, will be distributed to about 5,000 supporters of Xavier High School in Connecticut and throughout the Northeast. The book will be indexed by service, as well as alphabetically, to make it easy for people to find and support the many businesses that support our school and students through their advertising.

One of Xavier High School’s guiding beliefs is rooted in the importance of creating community. One of the best ways is to work for, and help, one another. This is what the Xavier Ad Book is all about, Xavier students helping other Xavier students.

one body organ that can regenerate itself. In living donor transplants, both the donor’s liver and the donated portion grow back to normal size. In both deceased and living donor transplants, blood type and body size are important in determining a proper match.

There were five friends along with Foell who volunteered to become donors for Kayla, said Van Almkerk. After the first was ruled out, Foell underwent a testing process that took four months. “Each step of the way we would be elated, saying, OK, he got through that test, he got through that test,” re-called Van Almkerk.

The operation took place Aug. 28. Kayla is now back at Massachusetts General Hospital, undergoing testing. Foell says his recovery runs “hot and cold,” with a few hours a day when he feels energetic enough for activities. Most of the time, he’s tired while his body works hard to restore his liver.

“You’re lethargic all the time, your body takes a lot of energy from you,” he said. “It’s working very hard.”

“It’s a very difficult healing process for both,” said Lauren McMahon, a spokeswoman for the American Liver Foundation. “The patient usually feels better immediately. The other person is in a lot more pain, because they didn’t have any pain when they got in.”

While he’s satisfied, Foell says he’s holding back on celebrating until five months down the road when he’ll have a better view of Kayla’s recovery. “I’d be walking on air,” he said. “I’m still keeping my fingers crossed.”

“It’s hard to express your thanks,” Van Almkerk said. “He didn’t ever expect it from me, he never hesitated.” And Van Almkerk said the generosity of his friends “has blown me away.”

While the family has health insurance coverage, it has not been nearly enough to cover the expenses associated with Kayla’s medical care. The Kayla Jane Fund Committee has set a goal of raising $150,000 by the fall of 2009. Van Alkerk says he’s already grateful for the support shown in Ipswich.

More information about the fund is available on the Web, at

www.KaylaJaneFund.com. Donations can also be sent to the

Kayla Jane Fund at First National Bank of Ipswich, care of Lauri

Carlson, 31 Market St., Ipswich, MA 01938.

Any Excuse for a Party!

The Congregation of the Xaverian Brothers at Xavier High School honored Brother J. Robert Houlihan, C.F.X. for his 54

years in the classroom as he now moves from a teaching position to a support role at the school. The June occasion was marked with a Mass followed by a reception where scores of well-wishers could pass on their regards to Brother Houlihan. At the end of Mass, Headmaster Brother William, C.F.X offered some reflections on this remarkable career.

That is a headline seen and heard by most of us over the years and describes well the type of service the men and women of

the United States Coast Guard are called upon to provide as part of their duties.

This year three 2008 Xavier graduates are enrolled in the Coast Guard Academy in Groton. Nick’s parents were able to capture this photo at the Academy’s Parents’ Weekend in September.

According to Mrs. Cosenza, “All three Cadets say they are doing well. It’s hard but Xavier prepared them for the challenge. Congrats to Xavier!”

Our congratulations and encouragement go out to all three as they continue in their ongoing education and training at the Coast Guard Academy, and we wish them success in their future career of service.

These dedicated students are called to be leaders as Jesus led. They have applied and were chosen to work on the school’s retreat programs. As role models for others, they perform a variety of service work inside and outside the Xavier community. Activities of the Peer Ministry demonstrate to their peers how to integrate the Gospel and Gospel values into daily life. Their work throughout the year involves a high level of commitment in order to prepare, rehearse and present skits that benefit the school and further advance its mission.

“Please join us in both congratulating the team and praying for them throughout the summer as they prepare for their ministry,” said Peter Langevin, Religion Dept. Chair and Andrea Hoisl, Director of Campus Ministry.

As the final award presentation during the 2007 Xavier Graduation,

Principal William Garrity said of Mr. Pierce, “His retirement brings to a close a remarkable career as an educator that began 43 years ago in 1964 when, as Xaverian Brother Michaelus, he arrived at Xavier to teach science. In 1966 he was chosen to join the faculty of one of the Brothers’ schools in Kenya where he served for three years.

In 1970, having left the Congregation, he returned to Xavier and resumed his career as a member of the science department and as a stalwart contributor to just about every

other facet of the life of the Xavier community.

In the course of his career he has taught just about every course offered in the science department, starting with biology and genetics in the 70s, and continuing with chemistry, AP chemistry and microbiology. He served effectively and with distinction as chair of the department from 1977 until 2006. As chair he played a significant role in designing and equipping the four new science laboratories on the second floor of St. Joseph Hall and in the development of the AP courses the department offers.

“In addition to his work on the instructional side, Mr. Pierce has played an active part in athletics and activities. At various times he has coached JV baseball and volleyball, he has participated in campus ministry programs and at XLI, he has been SAC advisor and walkathon advisor, he has managed the bookstore and coordinated the annual visit of the Red Cross bloodmobile.

He has been a member of the faculty/staff spiritual life council, the technology planning committee, the

honors curriculum committee and has served as an evaluator of other schools for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

“He and his wife Theresa have been in attendance at just about every Xavier event held over the years and earned the gratitude of any number of students for the sauce and pasta they provided at the evening supper on sophomore weekends.

“Mr. Pierce has earned the gratitude of us, his colleagues, as well. We know him to be a man

“A man of great faith and zeal, a man of compassion in times of

trial and of dedication in the performance of his duties,” Tom

Pierce was all these things and we are deeply saddened to hear of

his passing. To his wife, Theresa, his daughters and his family and

friends, I extend my deepest condolences and the promise that he

will be remembered in my prayers and the prayers of the Xavier

High School Community. Tom touched the lives of so many

students and colleagues during his tenure at Xavier High School.

His role with the Xaverian Brothers, here and in Kenya, in the

science department and in the many extra-curricular activities

and community activities will not be forgotten.

of great faith and zeal, a man of compassion in times of trial and of dedication in the performance of his duties. We believe that Xavier has been blessed with his presence for these many years and we feel blessed to have had him as a friend and colleague. Our prayers and best wishes go with him ...”

Editor’s note: Mr. Thomas A.

Pierce was a graduate of Catholic

University, earned a Masters

Degree at Purdue University, and

was inducted into the Xavier High

School Hall of Honors in 1991.

It was a beautiful blue sky, boats on the water, a breeze in the air and the perfect setting for the annual Faculty/Staff Retreat.

St. Edmund’s Retreat is described as a haven of spiritual renewal and Catholic prayer on Enders Island, in Mystic, Connecticut. The serene location helped all get in the mood for this one day event.

The committee hoped that this retreat would “be a time for us all to come to a deeper awareness of how we are each called to give witness to our Xaverian Tradition on a daily basis. This Tradition, begun by our Founder, Theodore James Ryken, has been passed on to us through the many generations of Xaverian Brothers who labored tirelessly to advance the Church’s ministry of education and the lay colleagues who labored alongside them - all giants on whose shoulders we now stand.”

Andrea Hoisl, Director of Campus Ministry, gave the principal address “Living the Tradition.” This was followed throughout the day by a series of reflections from the many and diverse areas of the Xavier community: Guidance Reflection – Joan Tomassiello, Staff Reflection – Dan Cizauskas, Alumni Reflection – Joe Lane, Coach Reflection – Raj Jaswal, Student (Athlete) Reflection – Will Biestek ’09, Teacher Reflection – David Applegate, Student (Academic) Reflection – Brendan Ouellette and Administrator Reflection – Andrew T. Gargano.

Most of us are so caught up in our own lives and activities that we sometimes don’t see or understand what others are doing. These reflections helped share the many ways in which the Tradition is lived in the community. There were also a series of presentations that provided a well orchestrated slide show of the many activities in and around Xavier High School – athletics, teachers, students, academic, guidance, staff and alumni.

Time was also set aside for small group

Living the Traditiondiscussions on questions and topics about the Xaverian tradition and themes from the Foundational Documents of the Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools related to tradition and the mission of the school. Again, the peaceful setting of Enders Island and the beautiful gardens contributed to these meditative and reflective moments.

The conclusion of the retreat included Mass and closing remarks by

Religion Department Chair Peter Langevin. As an outward sign of commitment to Living the Tradition, all present signed the Mission Statement which was later framed and now hangs for all to see in the main hall of the school near the entrance to the Kohs Gymnasium.

In addition Brother Ryan will be teaching

English and civics and Mr. Sizemore will rejoin the Social Studies department.

EJK Car Show Shines

Sunday June 1st turned out to be a beautiful day. The third annual E.J.K. Car Show was

enjoyed by all. Proceeds of this event benefit the Eric J. Kalber Xavier High School Memorial Scholarship Fund. Kalber was a 2004 graduate of Xavier High School and died in a car accident in July 2005. A large crowd enjoyed the display of vintage cars and other vehicles that filled the school’s front lot and the carnival-like atmosphere.

John Paine ’10, from Northford, joined more than 150 other

young leaders from as many high schools throughout Connecticut when he attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar this summer at the University of Bridgeport. John was an Honor Roll student in all four marking periods during his sophomore

year. He also was a member of the Hockey and Ultimate Frisbee Teams in his freshman and sophomore years.

HOBY Leadership Seminars bring together a select group of high school students at the end of their sophomore year from public and private high schools to interact with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government, education and the professions to discuss present and future issues. The goal is to provide a stimulating forum for learning about critical issues while broadening the understanding of their leadership potential and quest for self development. HOBY leaders are also challenged to return to their communities to perform at least 100 hours of community service within 12 months following the Seminar.

Since HOBY’s founding, the goal of each seminar is to provide a catalyst to lifelong leadership development that empowers individuals to achieve their highest potential. As the Ambassadors are exposed to new ideas and engage in challenging topics, HOBY hopes to illustrate how to constructively think and discuss complex issues with individuals from various backgrounds and beliefs. The goal is to show the Ambassadors how to think rather than what to think. Since 1958 HOBY has been a part of more than 365,000 students lives, many of whom continue to volunteer on HOBY seminar planning committee’s, in their local communities, and schools to keep the HOBY spirit alive.

Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership was established in 1958 by the popular actor Hugh O’Brian following a visit to Africa where he was inspired by a meeting with Dr. Albert Schweitzer.

“One of the things Schweitzer said to me was that the most important thing in education was to teach young people to think for themselves,” O’Brian said. “From that inspiration, and with the support of others who believe in youth and the American dream, I started HOBY to seek out, recognize, and develop outstanding leadership potential among our nation’s youth.”

Congratulations to John. This award reinforces the values that Xavier High School works to instill in all of its students.

it, you could get a copy of the magazine at the library or go to our website www.xavierhighschool.org and click on “About Us” on our front page.

We are proud of what we do at Xavier, as you can tell from what you read in these pages. We also know that we must get the word out to those in the area. If you are in one of the 65 towns from which we draw students, we hope you have seen or heard one of the radio or TV commercials that we ran to

announce our Open House for 8th graders on October 26th, the entrance exam on November 15th and the ongoing visitation program for prospective students. We also have those on

Website RedesignedAs of July 1st, there is a totally new look to

the Xavier High School website. On the front page (which mimics the front entrance of the school – thank you for the suggestion, Mr. Braychak) we have Announcements, News, highlighted Upcoming Events and a current calendar which will give you all the major activities of the day you click on.

Currently there are about 1,200 pages of content on our site. We have tips on how to get around the website easily under frequently asked questions (FAQ) under “About Us.” There is also a search feature under “About Us.”

Help us get the word out about Xavier, send a link to someone you know who might have a connection to the school or be interested in what happens here. We are making every effort to keep the website timely. Some information may only be on the front page for a few days, so check often. What is so special about that? Following a car crash in July, that closed Rt 66 and had LifeStar called to the scene,

Xavier Alumnus Christopher Serra ’99 has been in a struggle to regain his physical strength and some normalcy in his life. Some of that normalcy was achieved when Chris returned to his job as a physical education teacher at Brownstone Intermediate School in Portland, CT.

Last week, Chris was an honored guest at the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce breakfast where UConn men’s basketball coach was guest speaker. Chamber president and former Xavier football coach Larry McHugh said “Among other things, Calhoun touched on the importance of enjoying life each day and avoiding the trap of being negatively affected by life’s day-to-day annoyances… Using Serra’s perseverance and courage as an example, Calhoun related the idea that if a person can work through such overwhelming circumstances without complaint, then we are all well served to approach

Chris is Back to Work

life’s daily trials and tribulations in the same fashion. We all certainly agree with Calhoun’s point here.”

Both WFSB and the Hartford Courant did a nice job of covering Chris’ return to work. We have links in this story on our website under Alumni News. So just follow the links to their stories where you will also see some pictures and videos.

“I believe that this program plays a key role in setting

a positive attitude for the upcoming school year” said Mrs. Andrea Hoisl, Director of Campus Ministry. “It also helps to bring together the seniors and the faculty in an enthusiastic and hard-working partnership that carries throughout the school year. Seniors set the tone for our school as the underclassmen look to them for leadership and direction. X.L.I. equips them with the necessary skills to assist in school activities, community projects, and peer counseling throughout the year.”

The annual Xavier Christian Leadership Institute (X.L.I.) was held at Holy Family Retreat Center in West Hartford, Connecticut, during the third

It Takes Planning and Preparationweek of August. About 90 Xavier seniors volunteered to participate in this five-day program which is geared towards helping the students discover and appreciate their leadership potential. Mrs. Hoisl heads the fifteen-member pastoral ministry team of Xavier faculty and administrators who worked with the seniors throughout the week.

X.L.I. participants receive first-hand experience in a variety of leadership opportunities. Additionally, they have a chance to reflect upon and utilize leadership theory and skills. The seniors formed committees that organized the practical running of the Institute, including the athletic activities, the care of the Holy Family facility, the celebration of the Eucharist and

Morning and Evening Prayer. The seniors who

participated in X.L.I. take leadership positions in the many extracurricular activities at Xavier, such as the Freshman Orientation Program - the Big Falcon/Little Falcon Program, as well as the Freshman Retreat Days and the Sophomore Retreat Weekends. They are shown here putting the finishing touches on posters that hung in the Kohs Gymnasium during

the opening weeks of school to welcome this year’s incoming freshmen (the little falcons). These seniors also participate in the Senior Service Program, a volunteer program serving various social service agencies and schools throughout Middlesex, Hartford, and New Haven Counties.

“How can we make this year’s tournament an

even bigger success than it has been for the past four years?” The committee continues to meet and advance plans for the 5th Classic. Defending champion Xavier will be joined by runner-up Glastonbury and two new teams to the tournament, Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport and Lyman Hall of Wallingford.

All four games should be great match ups. Glastonbury will face Kolbe in the opening game (5:30) on Monday evening followed by Xavier and Lyman Hall (7:15). The consolation game and championship game will be Tuesday night at the same times.

“Three of our tournament MVPs have gone on to strong college programs,” said Artie Kohs. Tim Abromaitis (2006) from Farmington High is at Notre Dame, Doug Wiggins from East Hartford High (2005) is at UMass and Amari Spievey (2004) from Xavier is at the University of Iowa. “We are really proud of the caliber of games and players we’ve been able to draw for the tournament.”

“Fitzpatrick Comes Full Circle”

Brian Fitzpatrick’s stock had taken a dramatic turn north in recent months. After a strong summer and an even better fall upon arriving

at Northfield Mount Hermon, the Connecticut native virtually had his pick of Ivy League programs.

On Tuesday night, Northfield Mount Hermon had their 7th player commit to an Ivy League school in the last three years as Brian Fitzpatrick made the decision to attend the University of Pennsylvania.

“The history at Penn with the Palestra, the Big Five, Ivy League Championships, NCAA appearances, and high major scheduling made it tough to beat,” he said.

Ultimately, Fitzpatrick chose Penn over two other schools in the Ivy League, but that isn’t to say he didn’t have interest from plenty of other division I programs, but that he was only considering the best academic schools in the country.

It is hard to overstate just how rapidly Fitzpatrick’s game, and consequently his recruiting stock, has jumped in recent months. He has gotten himself into phenomenal shape, become a more physical and aggressive presence on the interior, while maintaining the same perimeter skill set that always made him so intriguing to college coaches.

And although Fitzpatrick has only been on the NMH campus for roughly two months, he was still quick to give his new school plenty of credit.

Brian Fitzpatrick 2008

yearbook photo

“We have over 10 Division I players in our gym every night at NMH. I like the competition and it makes me take my game to a much higher level,” he said. “I wanted that experience in college and I have no doubt that I will get that at UPenn.”

NMH Head Coach John Carroll was equally quick to praise his most recent Ivy League product.

“Brian is months ahead of where we thought he would be at this point in the year. His perimeter skills are rapidly improving, his range on his jump shot is well beyond the new 3 point

line and he has tremendous athleticism. UPenn got a good one in Brian.”

Ultimately, Fitzpatrick’s story is a great one. A year ago many people questioned if he would ever be able to make it to the division I level – but after putting in a lot of hard work and bringing his game to new levels, he appropriately got to reap the rewards and ultimately that resulted in his commitment to the University of Pennsylvania.

Quaker fans will get an early look at their newest addition in January when NMH travels to the Ivy League campus to play a regular season game in the Palestra.

Team Captain Tommasi Scores Again

Michael Tommasi, Director of Advancement and ’67 varsity basketball captain, now represents Xavier on the board of the Association of Catholic Admissions and

Advancement Professionals. He, Assistant Director of Advancement Joe Lane ’95 and John Guerin, Director of Communications gathered information to benefit Xavier at the ACAAP Fall conference held at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.

Michael has been Director of Advancement at Xavier since November, 2005. As Director, he is responsible for securing financial resources and enhancing alumni relations while advancing the mission of the school.

Mr. Tommasi knows Xavier very well having maintained a strong relationship with the school ever since his student days ended in 1967. He has provided long and active service in the Xavier Alumni Association of which he is a past president and current member.

He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Tampa, and a Masters in Health Administration and Education from Southern Connecticut State University. He held the position of Regional Director and Health Program Supervisor at the Connecticut Department of Public Health prior to being named Advancement Director at Xavier.

Headmaster Brother William,

C.F.X. explained that a group of incoming seniors spent a week of their summer preparing for the college admissions process. “As a Catholic, college preparatory school we offer as many opportunities as possible for our students to advance their personal goals.”

“Writing the College Essay” workshop provides an overview of the purpose of the college essay and addresses typical questions including analysis of sample essays, discussion of suggested topics, and evaluating strengths and weaknesses. This program has been held for several years and we anticipate it will continue in the future. This year the workshop was led by English

Department Chairperson, Ms. Kathryn Lee. “Demand for the workshop was so strong, that we conducted two sessions daily for the week in August” said Ms. Lee.

In addition to the formal workshop sessions, students receive individual guidance and feedback for a first draft of their essay and follow-up support afterward.

Dear Alumni and Friends:

It is an inspiring experience to see the tremendous support from the Xavier Community for last year’s (July 1, 2007- June 30, 2008) Annual Fund Drive (AFD), especially as the nation faced an economic downturn. Because of your generosity, we were able to award over $900,000 in financial aid and endowed scholarships. In addition, we raised over $160,000 towards the development of our Advanced Technology Rooms.

The Annual Fund Drive has played a vital role in strengthening our great school and as we wished the Class of 2008 good luck and welcome the Class of 2012, I would like to invite you to join me in supporting Xavier’s 2008-2009 (July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009) AFD. Your partnership with Xavier enables us to offer unique opportunities for many of our students. Thanks to our many alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends like you, we are providing financial aid and endowed scholarships to deserving students while enhancing the academic, spiritual, athletic, and technological programs. We will always be deeply grateful for your ongoing loyalty and support.
