Arm: - It houses the drive shafts

Hand wheel: - It controls the motion of

the machine manually or electrically

Reverse stitch control: - It changes the

stitch direction.

Stitch length regulator: - It indicates and

changes the SPI (Stitches per inch) / SPM

Thread spindle: - It holds the spool of thread

Pressure regulator: - It is the control that

regulates the amount of pressure on Presser

foot.

Thread retainer: - (Pre-tensioner) It applies

small amount of tension to the disc so that thethread will flow uniformly in the tension discs.

Take-up lever: - It first loosens the thread for

stitch formation then removes any slack to set

or lock the stitch.

Thread guides: - (thread eyelets) they

smooth the thread and protect it fromabrasion.

Presser foot:- It holds the fabric in place for

stitching

needle with the needle bar.

Presser bar: - The bar to which presser foot isattached.

Feed dogs :- (feed dog, feeder or feed) the

toothed mechanism beneath the presser footthat moves fabric forward and backward.

Throat plate: - It protects the lower part

from building excess lint.

Needle: - It penetrates the fabric. It takes

the thread to the hook or shuttle and up

again to make the stitch.

Stitch hole (needle hole):- The hole in

the throat plate the needle carries thethread into the hole so that it can interlock

with the bobbin thread.

Bobbin Mechanism

Center Post: - A part of shuttle or rotary

hook. It holds the bobbin case in position

(stationary). Hence, bobbin and shuttle

can move independently. Bobbin rotatesabout the center post.

Bobbin: - It holds the lower supply of

Shank: - It holds the presser foot

Heel: - The back of presser foot.

Sole: - (shoe or slipper) it contacts with

cloth. It helps smooth movement of fabric.

Toes: - (Prongs) the front end that faces

oncoming cloth. On zipper foot, cording

foot there is only one toe.
