Important Letter from Fr. James

Dear Parishioners, It has come to our attention that a new breed of phishing scam emails, and text messages has been targeting our parishioners. The perpetrators are impersonating the Pastor, and are requesting special favors. They have been requesting gift cards or deposits to an account that belongs to an untraceable VISA debit card. I wanted to inform everyone of this fraud attempt and ask that you be vigilant when communicating with ANYONE via email or text. In light of these scams, here are some tips to help avoid this frustrating situation: • Please do not respond to any request for money via email or text messages. We do not

solicit donations via emails or text messages. • Please do not respond to any text messages from any unknown phone number claiming to

be from the Clergy or Parish Staff. When scheduling meetings, Clergy and Parish Staff will contact you via telephone call.

The best way to combat these scams is to keep our parishioners informed and keep ourselves updated with tips to help avoid falling victim to these scams. If you are uncertain or have any suspicion about any messages you have received from anyone claiming to be from the Clergy or Parish Staff please call our parish office at (760) 564-1255 to report any fraudulent activity. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Your ancestors waited in faith and courage for God’s promised summons (Wisdom 18:6-9). Psalm — Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own (Psalm 33). FAITH AND HOPE Faith and hope are closely united in today’s readings. The Israelites knew when the Passover was coming, and so were not in fear, but had faith and courage, “putting into effect with one accord the divine institution.” In this we can see a foretelling of the Eucharist that we celebrate according to Christ’s command, “Do this in memory of me.” We see that Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, and Jacob died in faith, although they did not see fulfillment of the promise. We live in hope that our faith will be fulfilled every time we celebrate this sacrament. We too are not to be afraid, but to have hope that our faith will be fulfilled in the coming of Christ. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

When Pope Pius XII died in 1958, there was the usual buzz of speculation about likely successors. Cardinal Agajanian, Patriarch of the Armenians, was highly thought of as a likely choice. This took many Catholics by surprise, since he had never celebrated the same liturgy as Pope Pius, but followed ancient Armenian customs according to the Eastern Church, which veils the Eucharisic liturgy from sight by a series of curtains, and in which the priest kneels while the people stand for Communion. In the years that followed, the Second Vatican Council would affirm the dignity and independence of the East-ern Churches, in complete union with Rome, yet different in patterns of life and worship. We have the same faith, the same sacraments, and the same pope. Yet everywhere in the world our separate Churches are combined into families held together by the ministry of bishops. We are the Gudiño family. We have been part of Saint Francis of Assisi church for the past six years. When we heard about the Capital Improvement Campaign we were excited to hear about the transformation to our church and we knew we wanted to help. Like a lot of families we struggle on a month to month budget but it did not stop us. We as a family decided to make a sacri-fice and to set as a priority to give to this campaign. The sacrifice was to discontinue cable and be able to give that money for this great cause for the future or our parish/our home. Aside from this our two boys give a five dollar donation each week to this cause when they attend Mass for them this is 50% of their allowance.

Somos la familia Gudiño. Hemos sido parte de la iglesia de San Francisco de Asís durante los últimos seis años. Cuando escuchamos sobre la Campaña de Mejora de Capital, nos entusiasmó escuchar sobre la transformación en nuestra iglesia y supimos que queremos ayudar. Como muchas familias, luchamos con un presupuesto mensual, pero eso no nos detuvo. Nosotros, como familia, decidimos hacer un sacrificio y establecer como prioridad dar a esta campaña. El sacrificio fue interrumpir el servicio de cable y poder dar ese dinero para esta gran causa para el futuro de nuestra parroquia / nuestro hogar. Aparte de esto, nues-tros dos hijos hacen una donación de cinco dólares cada semana a esta causa cuando asisten a misa para ellos, esto es el 50% de su asignación.

LA FE Y LA ESPERANZA En las lecturas de hoy la fe y la esperanza están muy unidas. Los israelitas sabían cuando la Pascua se acercaba, y eso no les atemorizaba, sino que tenían fe y animo; “y de común acuerdo se impusieron esta ley sagrada”. En esto podemos vislumbrar un anuncio de la Eu-caristía que celebramos de acuerdo al mandato del Señor Jesús “Hagan esto en memoria mía”. Vemos que Abraham, Sara, Isaac y Jacob murieron en la fe, aun cuando ellos no vieron cumplida la promesa. Vivimos con la esperanza que nuestra fe llegará a su cumpli-miento cada vez que celebramos este sacramento. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Hace casi 2000 años, Jesús declaró que “los zorros tienen guaridas, y las aves del cielo sus nidos; pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene donde reclinar la cabeza”. Lamentablemente en las calles y callejones del mundo este dicho se realiza diaria-mente en tantos abandonados por la sociedad que viven sin techo ni hogar. En los años 40 el santo jesuita, Alberto Hurtado de Chile quiso darle al Hijo del hombre un lugar donde reclinar su cabeza recogiendo a los niños y a los adultos indigentes. Su ejemplo llamó la atención de otros cristianos que se unieron a sus es-fuerzos y así en 1944 fundaron la asociación benéfica “Hogar de Cristo”. Este hogar se dedica aun todavía a acoger, educar y rehabilitar a los necesitados dándoles las herramientas necesarias para poder depender de si mismos. También vela por sus almas dándoles una formación total de cuerpo, alma y espíritu. En fin, el Hogar de Cristo se dedica a difundir la realidad de los pobres por medio de nuestro llamado bautismal a la responsabilidad que tenemos en darle al Hijo de hombre un lugar para reclinar su cabeza. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. Han estado solicitando tarjetas de regalo o depósitos en una cuenta que pertenece a una tarjeta de débito VISA no rastreable. Quería informar a todos ustedes sobre este intento de fraude y pedirles que estén atentos cuando se comuni-quen con CUALQUIER PERSONA por correo electrónico o mensaje de texto. A la luz de estas estafas, aquí hay algunos consejos para ayudar evitar esta situación frustrante: • No responda a ninguna solicitud de dinero por correo electrónico o mensajes de texto. No solicitamos

Esta fiesta es una solemnidad muy antigua en la iglesia. Se ha celebrado en toda la iglesia a partir del siglo VI. Origi-nalmente celebrado en el Este, el título antiguo es la Dormición de María, o el Dormirse de María. El escrito más antiguo que encontramos de esta fiesta es del siglo IV y está escrito en la voz de San Juan, a quien Jesús le encomen-dó a María que cuidara mientras colgaba de la cruz.

La enseñanza es que María fue asumida en el cielo después de "quedarse dormida en el Señor" antes de que su cuerpo sufriera decadencia. Esta doctrina de la iglesia, aunque la iglesia ha estado celebrando esta creencia durante siglos, no fue declarada un dogma hasta el 1 de noviembre de 1950 por el Papa Pío XII. Mientras que los ortodoxos orienta-les llaman a este evento la "dormición", la Iglesia Católica Romana lo llama la Asunción.

El catolicismo romano guarda silencio sobre los detalles de la Asunción. Por lo tanto, los católicos romanos legítima-mente pueden creer que María no murió antes de la Asunción. El día santo siempre se ha celebrado en la iglesia el 15 de agosto.

Papa Francisco pidió a todos rezar para que “mientras prosigue nuestro camino sobre esta tierra, ella vuelva sobre nosotros sus ojos misericordiosos, nos despeje el camino, nos indique la meta, y nos muestre después de este exilio a Jesús, fruto bendito de su vientre. Y decimos juntos: ¡Oh clemente, oh piadosa, oh dulce Virgen María!”

LỊCH SỬ PHỤNG VỤ Đầu tiên, Giáo Hội Đông Phương thành lập lễ tôn vinh Mẹ Thiên Chúa tại Giêrusalem sau Công đồng Êphêsô năm 431, và gọi là "Ngày của Đức Maria, Mẹ Thiên Chúa". Năm 380, giáo đoàn Antiôkia, và đầu thế kỷ VI, Giáo hội Đông Phương gọi là "Lễ Mẹ ly trần". Năm 600, hoàng đế Maurice ra sắc lệnh mừng lễ này khắp nước Byzantine. Khi quân Ba tư xâm chiếm Trung đông, các đan sĩ chạy sang Rôma năm 650, đem theo lễ này sang và đổi là "Lễ Mẹ Lên Trời" và mừng vào ngày 15 tháng 8. Rồi từ Rôma, lễ này được lan đến Milan và Tây Ban Nha. Đức Thánh Cha Sergiô I tổ chức một cuộc rước long trọng sùng kính Mẹ lên trời. Thế kỷ VIII, lễ này lan sang Anh và Đức như Hội Đồng Giám Mục Áo tại Salzburg xác nhận, và sang Pháp do Hội Đồng Giám Mục Pháp tại Mayenne. Dần dần, lễ này được lan tới tất cả các nước khắp thế giới. Đức Giáo Hoàng Lêô IV qui định lễ Mẹ Lên Trời có tuần tám ngày, và Đức Giáo Hoàng Nicolas I cho biết từ lâu, lễ Mẹ Lên Trời có lễ Vọng ngày áp. Thế kỷ thứ XIII, lễ Mẹ Lên Trời còn có ngày chay trước lễ và là lễ long trọng nhất các lễ Đức Mẹ. Thế kỷ XVI, theo nhà thần học Suarez, lễ này đặc biệt hơn mọi lễ Đức Mẹ, vì bày tỏ cho chúng ta thấy vinh quang, phần thưởng và sự khải hoàn của Rất Thánh Trinh Nữ. Thời Trung Ccổ, lễ Mẹ Lên Trời là ngày làm phép mùa màng và các hoa trái đầu mùa. Năm 1950, lễ Mẹ Lên Trời có tầm quan trọng trong khắp Giáo hội do Đức Giáo Hoàng Piô XII định tín "Mẹ Maria lên trời cả hồn và xác" và qui định thành Lễ Trọng đặc biệt trong khắp Giáo hội với luật buộc mọi người tham dự Thánh lễ. Năm 1970, Phụng vụ qui định lễ Mẹ lên trời là một lễ Đức Mẹ duy nhất có lễ Vọng vào chiều ngày 14, trước chính ngày lễ 15 tháng 8.

Nhận Đơn Ghi Danh

Hướng dẫn ghi danh Giáo lý Rước Lễ Lần Đầu Niên khóa 2019 — 2020

Thân ái chào đón quý phụ huynh đến ghi danh cho con vào Chương Trình Giáo Lý từ Mẫu Giáo — Lớp 8. Để có thể phục vụ cộng đồng chúng ta hữu hiệu hơn, chúng tôi liệt kê những điều cần thiết khi ghi danh cho con em quý vị học Chương Trình Giáo Lý năm nay.

Thành Viên Giáo Xứ 1) Là thành viên của giáo xứ và thường xuyên đi lễ. 2) Giáo Lý Vỡ lòng cho các em 6 tuổi trở lên hoặc

học lớp Một. 3) Giáo Lý Rước Lễ Lần Đầu cho các em 7 tuổi

hoặc học lớp Hai, Chương Trình 2 năm. 4) Phụ huynh được mời gọi tham dự Giáo Lý của

phụ huynh đồng hành với con em. 5) Tham dự lễ Chúa Nhật hàng tuần tại giáo xứ St.

Francis of Assisi Church. 6) Nộp giấy Khai sanh, giất chứng Bí Tích Rửa Tội

khi ghi danh.

Không phải Thành Viên Giáo Xứ

1) Hội đủ điều cần thiết phần trên. 2) Con em của quý vị sẽ được ghi tên trong danh sách chờ đợi. Chương trình sẽ bắt đầu nhận đơn ghi danh sau các thánh lễ Chúa Nhật ngày 7 tháng Bảy, 2019 hoặc vào văn phòng nhà xứ, Thứ Hai - Thứ Sáu 8:30 sáng tới 4:30 chiều, văn phòng đóng cửa giờ trưa 12:30 - 1:30, có thể gặp chị Yến sau thánh lễ Việt Nam để lấy đơn.

Hướng dẫn ghi danh Giáo lý Thêm Sức Niên khóa 2019 — 2020

Thành Viên Giáo Xứ 1) Là thành viên của giáo xứ và thường xuyên đi lễ. 2) Giáo Lý Thêm Sức năm I, các em trọn 15 tuổi

vào ngày 1 tháng Tư năm 2020, Chương Trình 2 năm.

3) Giáo Lý Thêm Sức năm II, các em trọn 16 tuổi vào ngày 1 tháng Tư năm 2020.

4) Nộp giấy Khai sanh, giất chứng Bí Tích Rửa Tội và Bí Tích Thánh Thể khi ghi danh.

Không phải Thành Viên Giáo Xứ

1) Hội đủ điều cần thiết phần trên. 2) Con em của quý vị sẽ được ghi tên trong danh sách chờ đợi. Chương trình nhận đơn ghi tại văn phòng nhà xứ, Thứ Hai - Thứ Sáu 8:30 sáng tới 4:30 chiều, văn phòng đóng cửa giờ trưa 12:30 - 1:30, có thể gặp chị Yến sau thánh lễ Việt Nam để lấy đơn.
