MISSION STATEMENT We, the people of the Parish of the Holy Cross, are a multi-cultural parish of the young and elderly, married and single, healthy and broken. We welcome all to come together and give praise and thanks to God. Through the celebration of the Eucharist and the other sacraments and devotions of the Church, we reach out to others in mercy and compassion and seek to share the joy of the Gospel throughout our large community. Here, with the support, strength, and inspiration we receive from one another, we are nourished daily on our journey of faith.

Stewardship Work “As the Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking say to me, ‘Son of man, I am sending you…’” (EZEKIEL 2:2-3) God asks each of us to do some Stewardship work for Him. He gives us the resources we need to do His work. However, do we listen to God when He calls? Do we get up on our feet and give our talent to do the work He asks of us? Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE Today’s gospel is so familiar, it hurts! The home town folks couldn’t accept the presence of God in Jesus. After all, they had watched him grow up. We can easily make the same mistake if we don’t see God present in the ordinary routines of our family. “The Lord be with you” is a statement of fact. Believe it. Live it.

From the Pastor’s desk… A few weeks ago in my homily, I read a poem attributed to Mother Teresa called the “Anyway Poem.” I was asked by some parishioners to place the poem in the bulletin and so I do so today. I pray the Fourth of July holiday is relaxing and safe for you and your family.

Mother Teresa’s Anyway Poem

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends

and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;

It was never between you and them anyway.

God Bless you and your family, Fr. Vince

Madre Teresa Poema Todos Modos

Si eres honesto y franco, la gente puede engañarte;

Sea honesto y franco de todos modos.

Lo que pasa años construyendo, alguien podría destruir durante la noche;

Construir todos modos.

Si encuentras serenidad y felicidad, pueden ser celoso;

Sé feliz de todos modos.

El bien que hagas hoy, la gente a menudo se olvide mañana;

Haz el bien de todos modos.

Da al mundo lo mejor que tienes, y nunca puede bastar;

Usted ve, en el análisis final, es entre usted y tu Dios;

Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, P. Vince

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks

on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
