Waste crime is a serious issue and is recognised as a major threat to our ambitions of a circular economy. Waste criminals are elusive and persistently profit at the expense of our environment, economies and communities. The LIFE SMART Waste project recognises that there are significant gaps in our collective understanding of the causes, dynamics and triggers for criminal activity in challenging waste streams. Closing these gaps offers opportunities to identify and develop practical indicators, deterrents and remedies for such criminal behaviour. LIFE SMART Waste is a partnership between key bodies involved with addressing waste crime and has been made possible with the support of EU LIFE funding.
