4.3 Tier One: Vehicular Wayfi nding Signage;Guiding Vehicles and Bicycles to the Trail System Within 1 Mile Radius
Our research identifi ed a gap in the wayfi nding signage for the HWPGTS. Currently, there is limited vehicular/on-street bicycle wayfi nding signage that guides potential trail users to the greenway trail system. The goal for this tier of wayfi nding signage is to guide the trail users that arrive to the greenway trail system via arterial and local streets to the trailheads and other points of access to the greenway trail system. Two types of signage are included within this tier; vehicular wayfi nding signage and trailhead monument signage.
Vehicular Wayfi nding Signage
Wayfi nding signage at street intersections includes the brandmark, branding color, greenway trail system name and an arrow indicatingdirection to the greenway trailhead. This wayfi nding signage is to belocated at key street intersectionswithin a one mile radius of eachgreenway trailhead.
The vehicular wayfi nding signage is to be placed 200 feet prior to the intersection on arterial streets and 150 feet prior to the intersection on local streets. This measurement is from the face of the intersecting curb, or if there are existing street signs, from the last existing street sign behind the intersecting curb. If there are existing TxDOT street signs, this distance is to be 250 feet. See Appendixes C through F for site specifi c wayfi nding signage locations within the HWPGTS.
The use of this signage in TxDOT highway right-of-ways is prohibited due to a statewide signage policy. However, with coordination, TxDOT will allow these signs to be located in secondary TxDOT highway right-of-ways.
and an arrow indicatingdirection to the greenway trailhead. This wayfi nding signage is to belocated at key street intersectionswithin a one mile radius of eachgreenway trailhead.

5.1 Color and MaterialPalettesThe use of a consistent color and material palette for all signage within the greenway trail system creates a rec-ognizable system.
The color and material palettes on the following pages are to be used for specifi c signage throughout the gre-enway trail system as described. Additional colors are to be used only as necessary.
The fabricator is required to submit image proofs includ-ing color and material samples, for approval prior to fab-rication of the signage.
It is important that the signage meets all ADA require-ments, including, but not limited to, character propor-tions, character height, stroke thickness, character spacing, line spacing, installation height, location, fi nish, contrast, case and style.
Pantone Matching System (PMS) is an industry standard for color matching. The colors provided within the follow-ing pages utilize PMS with the exception of the aluminum signage, which is per the Texas Department of Transpor-tation (TxDOT) color standards.

Color Palette 2 - Graphic Signage
The colors shown on this page are colors used for graphic signage, in which production of the signage is through iZone Imaging or similar process. This color palette will be utilized for the design of the Tier 1 vehicular wayfi nding signage and trailhead monument signage, Tier 2 wayfi nding maps, trail rules, trail etiquette and interpretive signs and Tier 3 wayfi nding markers and mile/warning markers. Additional colors beyond these listed are to be limited and only used if necessary. Wayfi nding signage utilizing these colors are manufactured by iZone Imaging or an approved equal, with an Exterior Matte fi nish.

911 Locator
Parks and Recreation staff completed a project with the City’s Information Technology Services Department (ITSD) to incorporate the greenway trail system mile and quarter mile numbering, the 911 locators, into the 911 dispatch system.
The 911 locators provide critical information for the trail users to us in emergency situations. This information al-lows the emergency responders to locate the trail users within the HWPGTS. The 911 locators are to be used with the wayfi nding markers and mile/warning markers and coordinated with City for location within the green-way trail system.
The list provided on the right provides the two letter ab-breviation code to be used for each section of the HWP-GTS. These are to be used as shown without variation.
